“Hey, just thought I’d warn you.” she grabbed the shots and passed one to her new friend. “Fuck men,” she exclaimed as she raised her shot glass and downed it in one gulp.
“Fuck men.” Theo smiled at the other girl, appreciating the sentiment, before downing her own shot. “God, I really should’ve listened to your warning.” She made a face, as the alcohol burned it’s way down her throat.
em-moreno:“You don’t say? Well, I’m honored to pop your cherry.” she smiled, “Your drunk cherry I mean.” she motioned for the girl to follow her and ordered two shots of whatever. “It’ll probably taste like ass and burn your throat, but it’ll definitely be a lot of fun. Trust me.”
The other woman’s words made Theodora’s cheeks flush, but the thought of getting drunk kind of excited her. “Well, gee, wait to make it sound so appetizing.” She joked, waiting for the bartender to return with their shots.

“Well, how about you and I go get a drink and you can tell me all about it? How does that sound?”
She nodded, trying not to get all emotional over the girls kindness. “I’ve never really been drunk before, but what the hell. There’s a first time for everything.”

“You don’t say? What happened? Was he a douche? I’m sure he was a douche. Sounds like a big one to break up with a pretty lady like yourself.”
“He’s not a douche.. I mean, okay he totally is. Sometimes. But in this particular situation, I kinda feel like I’m the douche.”
“Yes, yes, I’m fine. Actually, no, I just broke up with my boyfriend.”
“I’m ready to try again, if you are?”
“Fine. Me too” She sighed, attempting to compose herself. “I’m sorry for calling you an immature fuckwad, I was just upset that you hit my car. I’m Theo. Do you have car insurance?”
Steve nodded polietely as he grabbed his card from is wallet and handed it over to the lady. “Please, dont bite my hand off. I kinda need it.”
She frowned, taking his card. “I already apologized, don’t make me feel worse.” Sighing, she pulled her phone out and snapped a picture of his card. “These things happen, I suppose.”
“I’m ready to try again, if you are?”
"Fine. Me too” She sighed, attempting to compose herself. “I’m sorry for calling you an immature fuckwad, I was just upset that you hit my car. I’m Theo. Do you have car insurance?”

“Overthinking could be my middle name, if I had a middle name“ He said, shaking his head. Watching as she grabbed the dough and started to do her thing, Joel couldn’t help but feel very impressed. His only food related skill was boiling eggs, and more often than not, not even that ended up well. “I’ll talk to her, and I guess this gives me an excuse to come eat donuts next friday, then. So I can tell you how it went“ Raising an eyebrow at her, he laughed at what she said. “It makes a lot of sense to me, actually. I mean, no one’s gonna be looking for the governor in a tiny B&B“ He explained. As she kept on talking, Joel’s smile turned into a frown. “You don’t believe in love?” He asked, like she’d just said she hated puppies. “But why?”
“You don’t have a middle name?” She asked, slight taken aback by his statement. Using her hands, Theo proceeded to stretch out the dough, continuing the conversation as she did so. “Very true. And I’m already too invested in this situation between you and your girlfriend, so you can’t just keep me hanging.” She shuffled through a draw for a few moments before pulling out a large rolling stick and cookie cutter. “You have the mind of a schemer! I didn’t even think about how unassuming my place would be.” Once his face dropped, Theo knew she messed up. “I guess ‘not believing in it’ is the wrong way to put. I believe in relationships and connections and all of that, I just don’t think what society has defined as “love” exists. Like.. there’s not this one special person out there made specifically for you who you will be insanely happy with for the rest of your life.”
castillojoel:
“I don’t know. It’s not that it doesn’t feel good, cause we do. Great kisser, she’s beautiful, we have the best time together. But,” He sighed. “I don’t know. I didn’t think this is how this love was supposed to feel, y'know? I had this other girl in my life, back in school. And it was very different with her. Very very. But she left” Joel explained, following her towards the staff area. Sitting down, he ran a hand through his hair, shocked at her stories. “Jesus, the same girl?! Woah. Must’ve been like, a friend of theirs.” He wondered, shaking his head. “Most of us?” Joel asked, curious. “You don’t like talking about it?” He continued, careful, hesitant. He didn’t want push Theo’s limits so early into this friendship. “I was born ready!” He said, smirking.
“Maybe you’re just overthinking things between you too?” she offered. “You shouldn’t compare this relationship to your last though, that’s a sure fire way to make yourself miserable. But I understand why you’re concerned about things, I really think you should talk to her.” Theo grabbed a ball of dough from the refrigerator and placed it on the counter. “Yeah, it was totally insane. You’d figure if someone is cheating on their spouse they’d go to a chain hotel instead of a tiny B&B, but to each their own I guess.” She shrugged, sprinkling flour across the dough ball. Earlier in the conversation Joel had mentioned his fondness over “love” and Theo didn’t want to offend him with her own opinions, so she was careful how she worded it. “It’s not that I don’t like talking about it. I guess I just don’t believe in it, really. I’m sure that makes me sound insanely pretentious.”

“God, I don’t know. She’s the one who kinda… Started it. I don’t know, it was all very weird from the beginning. I guess it never felt 100% natural from day one” Joel explained, crossing his arms in front of his chest. “Really? Care to share any juicy stories?” He asked, wiggling his eyebrows playfully. “I agree about the age thing, though. I mean, as long as everyone’s consenting adults… I just love love” He said, sighing by the end of his sentence. “Oh. Well. I understand, of course. But if I’m just– talking too much, let me know, ok?”
“Why didn’t it feel natural?” she asked, genuinely curious. “You would not believe the stories I have for you. Okay, best one right now. The govenor and his wife are both cheating on each other, that’s not even the juiciest part-- it’s with the same woman.” she widened her eyes, before adding. “You wouldn’t believe the look on the mistresses face when I told her it was good to see her again!” She sighed, realizing how sad her life was if town gossip was the most exciting thing about it. “You know, I think there should be more people like you. Those who love love just for the sake of it. Most of us are too afraid to even approach the topic.” Leading him across the lounge and toward the staff area, she chuckled at his words. “Deal. So, are you ready for some donuts? It shouldn’t take too long.”
castillojoel:
“What if she thinks I don’t love her? Which is so not the case, but…” He thought about it for a few seconds. “Maybe I just don’t love her like that, you know? And then I feel bad because how easy things would be if I could just… You know?” He said, finally following her inside. “Right? I mean, people think he’s just with her for the money, cause she’s like 70 and he’s not even 22 yet, but I do think they truly love eachother” Joel explained, sighing happily. He was just in love with love. “Sorry, enough about me. I have this tendecy to rant…”
“It’s completely normal to be confused about your feelings especially since you guys have been so close for as long as you have.” she reassured him before continuing. “I do think you guys need to have a conversation though. A real one, about how you’re feeling. And who knows? She might be feeling the same way.” She hit a few light switches on the lighting panel as they stepped in the door. “You wouldn’t believe the unhealthy and broken relationships I see in this place so more power to her for finding someone who loves her. Age is nothing but a number, yeah?” Theo chuckled and shook her head. “Don’t worry about it, I'm one of those people who prefers to listen.”
castillojoel:
“Oh, I do. Honestly… It’s my life. That and my girlfriend.“ He said, happy thinking about Andie. “Even though she’s been acting really weird. You see, we’ve been best friends since we came out of the womb, really. And I guess we always kinda had this– Pressure from our families, to get together, you know? And we finally did, a couple of months ago.“ Joel kept on ranting, as he was always doing. “But the thing is– It hasn’t been like I thought it would. And sometimes I think if we should be doing this at all.“ He thought for a moment about she’d asked him, and shook his head. “Oh, right. About my boss. Yeah, she texts me instructions like once a day, but I think she’s in Aruba now. Wherever that is.“
She listened to him vent as she continued to search her purse for her keys. As embarrassing as it was, Theo didn’t have a ton of experience in the relationship department, so coming up with decent advice for the younger guy was a bit difficult for her, but she felt compelled since he was opening up to her. “I know you didn’t like.. ask for my opinion, but communication is the most important aspect in any relationship and most things can be solved by just being up front with someone, you know? So I think you should talk to her about how you’re feeling.” She offered him a reassuring smile, before finally opening the entry way door. “Ah, what a life she’s living! I’m incredibly envious.”
castillojoel:
“Are you sure? Maybe I can send some free flowers to your hotel. I work at the flower shop, you know. I basically run the thing, my boss is this old lady and she just got herself a sugar baby – for realz.“ He started to explain, as they walked down the street. “And she just left me alone to take care of the shop.“
Amused by his story, Theo couldn’t help but chuckle. “You must care a lot about that shop. Any other person probably would have ransacked the place and went on with their lives. Have you heard from her since?” As they approached her B&B, Theo shuffled through her purse in search of her key ring.

“Hey, I could pay if you’d like, but now you’ve just said it’s gonna be free, so I’m thinking the first one can be free and if I fall in love with them, I can buy the others?“ He offered, raising an eyebrow at her.
“No, you definitely don’t have to pay me for these donuts. Or any in the future. I just mean.. normally when I’m making these donuts I’m making them for my hotel guests, who are paying me to basically.” she chuckled, feeling kind of silly for explaining it. “But you’re welcome to free donuts any Friday, as long as you compliment them. I live on compliments.”
castillojoel:
Shaking her hand slowly, he gave her a kind smile as he let it go. “Theo. That’s got a nice ring to it.” Joel said, nodding slowly. “So, do you always offer donuts to strangers? I mean, no judgments. I usually offer flowers to strangers, so.”
“Not unless they’re paying me.” She chuckled, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. “I wish I could say I was as charitable as you are, but no this is my first free donut offering. Who knows? Maybe if it goes well, I’ll start doing it more often.”

“Wow, you are amazing!“ He said, before offering her his hand. “I’m Joel. It’s nice to meet you, nice donut lady.“
“Despite my dream nickname obviously being ‘donut lady’ you call me Theo.” she mirrored his smile and extended her hand toward him.
