ââa sigh left the vampireâs lips as he sat down at the bar, raising a hand to call over the bartender for a drink or two. his usual, not even necessary to say what his preferred alcohol was. Â ââalright, everyone, listen up. generosity is not a word in my vocabulary but tonight, the first roundâs on me. no need to thank me, youâre very welcome.ââ
âapparently it is in your vocabulary tonight. iâm sure everyone here is forever in debt to you. yâknow, until they sober up.â he picked up the bottle of alcohol that the other male usually always ordered, filling up the glass to the brim. âthere you go.â
âItâs so fucking hot. I donât know what kind of shit Mother Nature is on but I need her to get it together.â
âWelcome to New Orleans, man. Thatâs how it is down here.â
Hunched over a notebook in the quiet cafe Monty didnât noticed or didnât seem to care when someone sat across from him.
âI hope you donât mind me sitting here.â Theo plopped down in the seat across from the stranger, placing down the food he purchased. âThe cafeâs a little crowded today, and it was either sit here or with the older woman whoâs a little bit too handsy for my liking.â
all silas could do was grin and shake his head softly but he had to give in with a shrug to play along. â indeed you are⌠and, yes, that is a problem of mine. â maybe sometimes he had to face the truth on things, but he really didnât want to. once they were on their way to the bookstore, silas eyed theo as he examined the treat in his hands. of course silas heard his every word, but he wasnât going to comment on it. â did you ever own a dog? â silas asked, genuinely curious as he let his eyes move over theo after glancing down at the treat in his own hands. as soon as the topic went back to the dog they were about to see, silas gave a small smile. â sheâs sweet and beautiful⌠i feel like youâre acting all tough until you see her. â he said, his eyes on the milkbone treat as he spun it between his two index fingers. the walk to the bookstore wasnât long and once they got there, silas grabbed the door and let theo go in first. he gave a small smile to the older woman sitting in her usual spot behind the counter. he greeted her and she greeted him back and, as per routine, she got up and opened up the small door to let the dog come running through. silas briefly introduced theo, but his attention was on the dog. she was a beautiful golden retriever and she sat down right in front of silas as he crouched down to pet her. â hey murphy. â he cooed silently to the dog and broke the treat in half and gave it to her before looking up at theo. he motioned his head softly to try to get him to crouch down with him to love on the dog. â her name is murphy. â he said, in case theo didnât hear him when he was talking to the dog.
âi did own a dog when i was younger. a few, actually. i was always bringing them home off the street whenever i saw a stray. my parents let me keep a few of them, but most of the time they only let me get them cleaned up, and then weâd have to take them to a shelter.â he smiled, remembering the first time he brought home a dog. âi was seven years old the first time i brought home a stray. i had found him out in our backyard actually. he had dug his way underneath our fence and was having his way with my momâs garden. he was a yellow lab, not even a year old. i took him inside and gave him a bath, ruining the entire bathroom might i add, and when my parents found us in the bathroom, i got quite the earful from my dad. my mom was a little bit more lenient.. until she saw her garden, of course.â theodore followed silas inside of the store, echoing his greeting to the older woman who he assumed was the owner. a few seconds later a golden retriever was bounding towards them, bringing a grin to the hunterâs face. dogs were a source of great happiness for theo; all animals were actually. he bent down next to silas, reaching out so that he could rub behind her ears gently with his large hand. âhi, murphy babe. youâre such a pretty dog.â his voice took on the tone that most people held when talking to babies and infants. the dog licked at his hand, before jumping up and putting her paws on his knees. âi guess she approves of me, huh?â
â i already like your attitude better. â her fingers caught the glass, wrapped themselves around it. she could smell what liquor it was. theodora took a sip, before putting the glass back down on the bar. â next time, minus the ice. â
â iâll definitely keep that in mind for next time, â theodore nodded at her, a small smile on his lips. â what were you reading? â
âWhat bullshit? Sorry, it seems Iâm having trouble finding it,â he replied, placing his hand over his eyes as if to appear that he was searching. When his brother pressed down on his wounds, he winced and shot him a glare that was accompanied by a grin. â Two contrasting expressions in one face, one of Orionâs specialties. âOkay, but I was such a cute baby. Like youâd have to force yourself to not baby me because I was so darn cute. I mean, do you remember how freaking stretchy my cheeks were? Tell me you remember because I know you totally loved them. â Hey, hey. Twenty-seven AND A HALF months old. That is a prime piece of information right there.â Orion couldnât help but laugh with his brother, appreciating that he accepted the brunetâs disapproval towards hunting. âOkay but what if the werewolf was super hot, I think dad would approve then. â Okay but our sister hates me, so I donât even think sheâd even show up.â The middle child didnât really know if his sister disliked him but he always assumed the worst when it came to his family. âItâs fine. Itâs a hurt sprouted from brotherly love, I think I can handle it.âÂ
Orion gave a frustrated sigh, unable to hide the truth from someone who took the time to always tend to his wounds. âMy chocolate pudding story is totally believable though. But what seriously happened was that some hunter dude was on a mission. About to kill a supernatural. I stepped in. Few knives. Few fists thrown. Thatâs all.â Orion could taste metal in his mouth from the blood and he gave a disgusted look convoyed by a frown. âJust that? Really? No new people in your life? No drama? Come on, I live for drama.â
âJust stop talking, Orion. Youâre giving me a headache.â The younger Devereuxâs childish behavior made the elder look like an old man. Theodore may have been immature and childish by some peopleâs standards, but Orion took that to a whole new level. He loved his brother more than anything, but sometimes he was just.. too much to deal with. Over the years heâs gotten better at dealing with him, but it still got a little overwhelming, or annoying is more like, at times. âYou werenât that cute. You were more annoying than cute. I remember when I was younger, I tried selling you to the neighbors down the street.â He chuckled slightly, shaking his head. âShut up, she does not hate you, dumbass. I really doubt anyone could hate you. They could really, really dislike you. But hate? Never that.â The two of them got along more than anyone else in the family; mostly because they shared a disdain for hunting. But Orion didnât know that Theodore had taken to working with some supernatural creatures instead of killing them. He wasnât ready to tell anyone that just yet.
âShut up. It was not believable. And anyone who believes that story lack common sense and intelligence.â He tossed the cotton ball in the trashcan and moved on to Orionâs arm, getting some gauze and antiseptic to clean it up. âSounds like a good time. He must have gotten you really good. Why didnât that supernatural creature you saved jump in and help you?â He questioned him, before smiling. âThereâs one new person.. Kinda.â
silas wanted to roll his eyes, but instead he just gave a long blink. â ok⌠ok. youâre hilarious, your joke was genius⌠and youâre always right? â he was going to add in a few more things to be funny, but he decided against it. possibly joke about how handsome he was and how he was much bigger than silas so he would probably beat him up pretty easily. theoâs words broke silas from his thoughts and he shrugged lightly at his words. â only sometimes. â silas wasnât always this talkative. if he hadnât literally bumped into theo, they probably would have never talked unless theo started the conversation. silas wasnât such of a conversation starter, but if he felt comfortable in an environment he probably would. theo also made a good point with his words and so silas gave in, nodding some. â alright, come on. â he said and started walking in the direction of the bookstore. he reached into his pocket to pull out a small bad of milkbone dog treats and he held the bag out for theo to look at. â we have to break them in half, though. â he said, opening the bag and taking one out to hand to theo. â for some reason she doesnât eat the full bone⌠even though sheâs a bigger dog. â he felt ridiculous saying it out loud and he so awkwardly cleared his throat, taking a treat out for him to give. â sheâs spoiled. â
âthatâs much, much better, just silas. iâm so proud of you for finally admitting that you were wrong about me and thatâs iâm actually an amazing person. that wasnât that hard now was it? you should really learn how to be more honest with yourself.â theo could tell that silas wasnât exacly the most exuberant and extroverted person, so he was talking a lot and joking a lot with him to get him to relax a little bit. the hunter had a way of trying to put people at ease that worked more often than not. it was working on silas, or at least he thought it was. hopefully by the end of their time spent together that day, silas would be comfortable around him fully. he nodded once and followed him down the street towards the bookstore, glancing down at the baggie filled with milkbone dog treats that silas pulled out. âoh, wow. i didnât think they still made these,â he said, more so to himself than to the other. âsheâs spoiled, huh? great.â
                 âi may not be p e r f e c t, but parts of me are awesome.â

âAnd that is EXACTLY why you love me and still continue to take care of me because Iâm just a small child.â His reply was filled with nonchalance, his demeanor of complete contrast to his older brotherâs. Orion made his way to the chair and his whole body slumped onto it, his right arm hanging over the back of the chair. â- The brunet tried to stifle his chuckles at Theoâs questions but alas, it went to vain in a mere few seconds. âI-Iâm so sorry,â he apologised through a plethora of laughter, âI-Iâm just. You know I hate hunting. Why would I have been out hunting? Dude, Iâd marry a werewolf if I could, I wouldnât want to get on their bad side, you know? Iâd like to keep my throat at the wedding ceremony, thank you.â His laughter was soon bluntly stopped by the flinching of his body at the alcohol touching his open wounds. âIâm serious, someone just stole my chocolate pudding and I got PISSED. You know how much I love chocolate pudding. Simply just that.â It wasnât the truth and he knew his brother wouldnât believe him. Orion just didnât want to admit that his wounds came from fighting off another hunter who was on his mission. âIâm still five on the inside, bro. I like my McDonaldâs happy meals, what can I say? â But thanks for always being here. I probably owe like ten of my lives to you. How have you been, by the way?âÂ
âYeah, thatâs the BIGGEST load of bullshit if Iâve ever heard any.â Theodore rolled his eyes at his brother and pressed down especially hard on one of his wounds, just to be an asshole about the whole situation. âMaybe if you werenât babied so much as a kid I wouldnât have to keep babying you as an adult. Sometimes I canât remember if youâre twenty seven years old or twenty seven months old.â He threw away the soiled cotton ball and reached for another, drenching it in rubbing alcohol and began cleaning up the other side of Orionâs face. The eldest Devereux child snorted as he shook his head. âI was being sarcastic, Orion. I donât think you should invite dad to the wedding if you do end up marrying a werewolf. Or our lovely little sister. She definitely wouldnât approve.â He frowned at his brotherâs wince. âSorry,â Theo mumbled, easing up on the amount of force he was putting into his task. âIâm just going to ignore the whole chocolate pudding story because I know youâre lying. Iâve always been able to tell when youâre lying. Iâve been fine, though. Just busy with work and stuff.â
what doesnât kill me should run, because now iâm fucking pissed.

 âWHOOPS.âÂ
Though the words left his mouth in a soft whisper, the biting tone was one filled with a sense of casualty. He stared down at the large bruise of blues and purples that blossomed on his arm and poked at the ones on his face a few times, his movements subjected to curiosity. He tried to wrap the wound with a wide white bandage, as to prevent people from seeing it and the unnecessary questions, by placing the end in his mouth and spinning his arm in circles in hope that it would do its job. It wasnât the most productive nor effective, so he merely let go of the bandage, letting it spin onto the concrete ground with a frustrated sigh. When he heard footsteps from behind him, he spun around with a grin already plastered on his face.Â
âOkay, but WAIT. Before you say anything else, you should have seen the other guy. I mean, boy was it rough. Like he swung first, and I was like ânah man. hold upâ and then it was like, the freaking Flash up in here. So quick, so fast.  Gotta go fast like Sonic, you know? AND I am positive that if it lasted one more second, I would have broken this nail which was painted by Bob Ross himself. Okay, maybe not the actual Bob Ross, but someone that looked like him so this nail is everything to me. â And it all started because he took the last freaking CHOCOLATE PUDDING. Like, seriously? How cruel could he be? I was looking forward to that pudding for ages. The nerve.  â
âYouâre a pain in my ASS, you know that right?â Theodore asked as a frown made its way across his face at his brotherâs appearance. He held up a first aid kit and waved it back and forth slightly, before nodding towards the nearest chair so that Orion would sit down. âWere you out hunting?â He questioned as he opened the box and started pulling out rubbing alcohol and cotton balls. âWhatever it was must have gotten you pretty good.â Theo dabbed a little of the alcohol on the cotton and began cleaning the wounds on his younger brotherâs face, shaking his head. âYouâre getting too old for me to be doing this for you.â He honestly didnât mind doing it though.
â and if it were up to you, youâd allow it? â her index finger between the two pages, theodora closed the book and looked up at the man. â surprise me. â
â i wouldnât really have a problem with it. â  he shrugged and pulled out a glass and a bottle of clear liquor. he added ice and the liquor into the glass, then slid it across the bar.
