He was unamused and his face showed it in the darkness. Armed almost to the teeth Chris stood a couple of feet from his son towering over him. “Six seconds, Orion. Tell the truth within six seconds or I’ll put this voicemail on speaker to enlighten us both on what happened.” His tone left no room for kindness or leniency Chris was beyond any of that. The one supposed benefit of being a Devereux hunter despite being retired was that he was the one people called when something went wrong. At least when it involved his kids more than likely. He knew Orion didn’t like being a hunter and he wasn’t going to push him to pursue one if he wasn’t going to like it, but his son naive when it came to supernaturals and he feared that it could cost Orion his life one day.
“Oh, come on, POPS. Lighten up. I just got like a few scratches, nothing big. See?” At the word, he lifted his arm but winced at the pain he felt emitting from his sides. He looked up and flashed his father a wide grin. “Totally, fine.” When it was painfully obvious that such a facetious attitude was not going to get him anywhere, and that the truth was a mere six seconds away from being revealed by some idiotic bias informant, the brunet sighed and threw his hands up in the air as a sign of surrender.
“I may or may not have stopped a hunter from completing their mission,” the words slipped through his mouth as softly as they could. “Honestly, this hunter was way out of line, dad. He was about to beat up this poor little werewolf that did like nothing wrong. So I stepped in. But hey, he totally left super beat up.-- OH, COME ON you ‘gotta be proud of my extraordinary skills.”
“Yeah, that’s the BIGGEST load of bullshit if I’ve ever heard any.” Theodore rolled his eyes at his brother and pressed down especially hard on one of his wounds, just to be an asshole about the whole situation. “Maybe if you weren’t babied so much as a kid I wouldn’t have to keep babying you as an adult. Sometimes I can’t remember if you’re twenty seven years old or twenty seven months old.” He threw away the soiled cotton ball and reached for another, drenching it in rubbing alcohol and began cleaning up the other side of Orion’s face. The eldest Devereux child snorted as he shook his head. “I was being sarcastic, Orion. I don’t think you should invite dad to the wedding if you do end up marrying a werewolf. Or our lovely little sister. She definitely wouldn’t approve.” He frowned at his brother’s wince. “Sorry,” Theo mumbled, easing up on the amount of force he was putting into his task. “I’m just going to ignore the whole chocolate pudding story because I know you’re lying. I’ve always been able to tell when you’re lying. I’ve been fine, though. Just busy with work and stuff.”
“What bullshit? Sorry, it seems I’m having trouble finding it,” he replied, placing his hand over his eyes as if to appear that he was searching. When his brother pressed down on his wounds, he winced and shot him a glare that was accompanied by a grin. -- Two contrasting expressions in one face, one of Orion’s specialties. “Okay, but I was such a cute baby. Like you’d have to force yourself to not baby me because I was so darn cute. I mean, do you remember how freaking stretchy my cheeks were? Tell me you remember because I know you totally loved them. --- Hey, hey. Twenty-seven AND A HALF months old. That is a prime piece of information right there.” Orion couldn’t help but laugh with his brother, appreciating that he accepted the brunet’s disapproval towards hunting. “Okay but what if the werewolf was super hot, I think dad would approve then. -- Okay but our sister hates me, so I don’t even think she’d even show up.” The middle child didn’t really know if his sister disliked him but he always assumed the worst when it came to his family. “It’s fine. It’s a hurt sprouted from brotherly love, I think I can handle it.”
Orion gave a frustrated sigh, unable to hide the truth from someone who took the time to always tend to his wounds. “My chocolate pudding story is totally believable though. But what seriously happened was that some hunter dude was on a mission. About to kill a supernatural. I stepped in. Few knives. Few fists thrown. That’s all.” Orion could taste metal in his mouth from the blood and he gave a disgusted look convoyed by a frown. “Just that? Really? No new people in your life? No drama? Come on, I live for drama.”
Taking an interest in a stranger’s personal affliction wasn’t one he ever wanted to do, but felt like he needed to do. Ben always kept an eye open for anything other than normal and knowing everything he could was quite a hobby of his. With his arms crossed over his torso, he couldn’t help but take notice toward the other’s injuries. There were thousands of possibilities as to why he had them, but the original couldn’t help but wonder if it had been supernaturally related. Letting his curiosity get the best of him, Ben eased forward and let the stranger ramble.
“So… you’re telling me you… beat someone up for chocolate pudding?” he questioned, though he knew he couldn’t fault the man. He had no appetite for human food but the thought of someone stealing his blood was not a happy one. “You look like shit – so you’re telling me the other guy is probably dead, then? If you were fighting over chocolate pudding, guess it’s best not to assume the wound under that is a vampire bite.”
“Okay, but who wouldn’t beat someone up for a darn chocolate pudding? I literally wrote my name on it and was like, ‘eat this at the end of the week because you need to lowkey go on a diet but you need to also maintain your sanity.’ So, like of course the end of the week comes around, and my DAMN CHOCOLATE PUDDING IS GONE. The whole world crumbled before my eyes,” he winced slightly due to action of raising his voice stretching his open wounds. “I look like hot shit at the very least, am I right or am I right?” he said with a chuckle, his rather facetious attitude never failing him.
“Yeah, I dumped his body over a rainbow. --- No, he’s not. Just a bit scratched up, Nothing bad.” That was the truth, at the very least. Orion wasn’t one to kill and his training was often specifically structured to hurt -- never kill. When the man mentioned the supernatural, Orion could assume that he wasn’t human but it didn’t cause him any alarm as his adoration towards the supernatural was far too strong. “Oh please, I wish it was a vampire bite, that would be so badass. But alas, it is not. No supernatural instances here. Just plain brutal human hands. And a knife. But like, details aren’t important.”
theodoredevereux:
“You’re a pain in my ASS, you know that right?” Theodore asked as a frown made its way across his face at his brother’s appearance. He held up a first aid kit and waved it back and forth slightly, before nodding towards the nearest chair so that Orion would sit down. “Were you out hunting?” He questioned as he opened the box and started pulling out rubbing alcohol and cotton balls. “Whatever it was must have gotten you pretty good.” Theo dabbed a little of the alcohol on the cotton and began cleaning the wounds on his younger brother’s face, shaking his head. “You’re getting too old for me to be doing this for you.” He honestly didn’t mind doing it though.
“And that is EXACTLY why you love me and still continue to take care of me because I’m just a small child.” His reply was filled with nonchalance, his demeanor of complete contrast to his older brother’s. Orion made his way to the chair and his whole body slumped onto it, his right arm hanging over the back of the chair. ---- The brunet tried to stifle his chuckles at Theo’s questions but alas, it went to vain in a mere few seconds. “I-I’m so sorry,” he apologised through a plethora of laughter, “I-I’m just. You know I hate hunting. Why would I have been out hunting? Dude, I’d marry a werewolf if I could, I wouldn’t want to get on their bad side, you know? I’d like to keep my throat at the wedding ceremony, thank you.” His laughter was soon bluntly stopped by the flinching of his body at the alcohol touching his open wounds. “I’m serious, someone just stole my chocolate pudding and I got PISSED. You know how much I love chocolate pudding. Simply just that.” It wasn’t the truth and he knew his brother wouldn’t believe him. Orion just didn’t want to admit that his wounds came from fighting off another hunter who was on his mission. “I’m still five on the inside, bro. I like my McDonald’s happy meals, what can I say? --- But thanks for always being here. I probably owe like ten of my lives to you. How have you been, by the way?”
Athena looked at the male, eyes blinking in confusion but it was mostly to get the sleepiness out of her vision. She was beyond confused. Realizing where she was, Athena quickly stood, straitening her back. If her boss found out about her sleeping, she’d have it. It took awhile for Athena to process that the male in front of her had said something. “Aliens? Human brains? 2050?” She asked confused, the expression she wore made that apparent to the other individual. “Did I have that stupid dream again?” She mumbled to herself.
“Stupid dream?” He repeated with as much confusion as the one apparent on her face. “Well, if your stupid dream is one filled with aliens stealing human brains, then well, perhaps my reading is somehow connected to your brain. I wonder if that’s like a new supernatural ability. -- But alas, I highly doubt it is.” He closed the book with a slam and placed his elbow on his knee so that his palms could hold his face. “Care to explain this dream, you’ve been having? I do love a good story-time, wouldn’t you agree?”
Why are you here? I’m just trying to survive.
“WHOOPS.”
Though the words left his mouth in a soft whisper, the biting tone was one filled with a sense of casualty. He stared down at the large bruise of blues and purples that blossomed on his arm and poked at the ones on his face a few times, his movements subjected to curiosity. He tried to wrap the wound with a wide white bandage, as to prevent people from seeing it and the unnecessary questions, by placing the end in his mouth and spinning his arm in circles in hope that it would do its job. It wasn’t the most productive nor effective, so he merely let go of the bandage, letting it spin onto the concrete ground with a frustrated sigh. When he heard footsteps from behind him, he spun around with a grin already plastered on his face.
“Okay, but WAIT. Before you say anything else, you should have seen the other guy. I mean, boy was it rough. Like he swung first, and I was like ‘nah man. hold up’ and then it was like, the freaking Flash up in here. So quick, so fast. Gotta go fast like Sonic, you know? AND I am positive that if it lasted one more second, I would have broken this nail which was painted by Bob Ross himself. Okay, maybe not the actual Bob Ross, but someone that looked like him so this nail is everything to me. --- And it all started because he took the last freaking CHOCOLATE PUDDING. Like, seriously? How cruel could he be? I was looking forward to that pudding for ages. The nerve. ”
he let out a small sigh as he heard the familiar voice bursting through the door, the hyperactivity and joy filling up the once quiet room. god, if it weren’t for rhiannon loving orion so much, he would’ve gotten rid of him quite a long time ago. but although he didn’t want to admit it, his day always seemed to get a little bit brighter whenever this guy was around, and he loved seeing the smile on his daughter’s face. and as if on queue, the small girl came running in the room with obvious excitement, latching on to orion. “well i guess that answers your question.”
at the small figure embracing him, orion picked the child up and spun her around, his booming laughter filling the room once more. “she totally got bigger since the last time i saw her and that was two days ago. what are you feeding her, boy?” he joked with the widest of grins on his face. “so i have finally come back from planet mars to take you to that one restaurant with all those syrup flavors. yay me for making it to earth safely.” he put the girl down before looking up back at reese. “you ready to go and get on that sugar rush? it’s on me today because i’m as rich as bill gates. okay maybe not as rich as bill gates but almost there.”
‘ you look like hell. ’
rafaela swivelled her head to get a good look at the man next to her, a sleazy smile on his face and an even sleazier hand on her thigh as she stares him down for a brief second. she contemplates draining him, right then and there in the bar, though soon realises that’d be bad for her image, instead opting to dig her precise nails into the base of his neck in order to slam his face down onto the bar. dusting her hands off and inspecting her manicure ( somewhat offended by the fresh blood ) she shoots him a smile,
“ thanks, i just got back. ”
in that moment, orion’s body snuggled its way between the two figures with a speed fitting for a hunter -- not as fast as the supernatural but fast enough to cover the blood dripping from the human’s neck. it seemed that the woman’s companion ( if you could call him that ) was a bit -- AWE-STRUCK but whether that was out of bewilderment at the situation or the vampire’s demeanor, he couldn’t tell. nonetheless, the hunter escorted the man out of the bar without attracting much attention, merely making up some seemingly-believable excuses with the wide grin he was well-known for. he went back to take a seat next to her and placed his side on the counter so that his weight leaned into it. “now what did i say about claws coming out in public areas? i thought we went over this, girl. --- oh, nice nails by the way, where’d you get them?”

> Biggest fear: someone eating the last chocolate pudding; his family getting hurt by a supernatural, thus being split between his morals. > Recurring nightmare: the face on the first supernatural he killed when he was younger. > Something you miss: a time when he didn’t know what it meant to kill. > Biggest regret: his first hunt. > A secret: he hangs out with the supernatural on his free time and rarely trains as a hunter because he thinks he doesn’t need it. he also has a big scar on his back because of his careless nature during a hunt.

carter’s posture was stiff, her eyes glossing over the texts in a small book store in the center of town. she was rather irritated, having too much spare time meant she had read almost every book known to man. her fingers traced over the bindings as she wrinkled her nose, feeling a presence behind her. “I need some recommendations.. and no, Nicholas Sparks is out of the question.” she rolled her eyes, her arms then crossing over her chest.
“but nicholas sparks is the god of all romance novels and should be read twenty-four seven as a tribute to his covers which always feature white couples almost kissing but never really getting there,” he chuckled, reaching for a book above the blonde’s head. “i’m the type of person that reads greek mythology one day and then the science of black holes another, so i highly doubt my recommendations will do the justice you need. alas, i did hear the fault in our stars is amazing and that everyone should read my immortal, which apparently is an amazing fanfiction.”
reese stood quietly in the middle of the shop, hovering over a dying plant with his back turned to the door, the ring of the bell indicating that a customer had just entered. “yeah, can i help you?” he continued to face the flower and with a single touch, it sprung back to life, all of the color quickly revitalizing.
orion burst through the door, bubbling with an angelic zeal fitting to the grin which stretched from ear to ear. “reese!” the amplitude of his voice was far too high; it filled itself to the corners of the room with its vibrations. “i have come to stop by and see if rhiannon wanted to go eat lunch? i promised her last time to take her to that one restaurant with the decorative smiley pancakes with like thousand of syrup flavors, and i totally forgot up until now, so i was like ‘hey, maybe they’re free. let’s go check!’ and so i am here. requesting for your presence !!”
“ What?! “ She exclaimed, jumping up from her resting position on the bar top. “ Is the world ending again? “
“ Yes, the aliens are taking over the world and they are currently stealing human brains so that they can create the most smartest robots.” Orion replied with a forced tone of panic, looking up from his book. “I mean, at least in this book. Not quite sure with real life but I predict it’s going to happen in around 2050.”
