I'm awake for more than I should so here are some polish fun facts
Polish word for Elephant is “słoń„. As Polish people didn't know how elephant looks like and only had it be described to them the concluded it must be so big that it covers (“zasłaniać„) everything around them.
Butterfly is “motyl„ because it's flying unregulary (Mota się /motać).
Word for ladybug came from the word meant for cow. “Biedra„ meant spotted around hips. There fore biedronka, and synonym boża krówka, meaning gods cow. (tho I don't remember why gods)
Herbata is a word for tea, originating from English Herbal tea
Theres a joke that goes do you know what's red, hard, and destroys teeth? A brick
There are many different kinds of mushrooms, some meaning really funny things if you translate them, (under mushrooms - podgrzybki, maślaki - buttery like, prawdziwki - trueys/ whore's law (depends on what word you take as a root word)
