“Well you know… The icing got a bit complicated. @flyboytracy helped me, but mirror glazing is a lot harder than I thought it would be.”

“So your brother convinced me to buy you a cake instead. We couldn’t find a space one, but I can try again to cook it,” she said as she tapped her chin.

Alan’s Musings

My grandma is really something special. Especially to me. I was pretty young when my mom died–each year what little memories I have seem to fade. And it wasn’t my mom that was there as I grew up, but Grandma. All those years of Mother’s Day cards went to her. And anytime I needed to ask a mom type question I called Grandma. I can’t imagine not having her around as much as I can’t imagine still having my mom around. I’m not mad at Mom, it wasn’t her fault, she didn’t choose it. It’s just the way things happened. I’m just glad Grandma was there to step in and help when needed. I just wish she’d learn how to bake a decent cookie.

Uh, no, no. That’s not what I meant at all. I love your cookies! It’s just, uhh, I’m getting kinda tired of Chocolate Chip. Why don’t you try making something else?

A Grandmother’s Comfort

Note: RP takes place a couple days after the events of ‘In The Nick of Time!’

John was never good at staying in bed for too long. Even when he was sick or injured, it was always hard to keep him at bed rest. It wasn’t even a full day after he had been in the infirmary when he wanted to leave it, but his brothers were having none of it. Alan had been only too happy to keep him company.

On the second day, a doctor from the GDF was flown in to do some tests and scans to make sure John was doing alright. As suspected, he was recovering from a concussion, cracked ribs, dislocated shoulder (which Virgil had expertly put back into place the day previous), among other more minor injuries from crashing into the GDF satellite. John had known that he was going to be grounded from going up into space, but to actually hear the verdict was enough to put the astronaut into a disquieted melancholy. The only good thing about the day was being helped up to his own room so that he could curl up in his own bed.

On the third day his mood hadn’t improved, but John ventured forth from his room to carefully shower and take care of some much needed hygiene. The most painful and difficult part had been getting himself dressed afterwards, but he managed. His left arm was still in a sling to support his injured shoulder. He hadn’t really socialized much with his family the day before and just desired to keep to himself. Due to the rumbles he had heard, Virgil and Scott must be out on a rescue, and the quiet around the house told him that Gordon must be with them. Alan was most likely up in Thunderbird 5 in his place.

John found himself wandering into the living room area, moving in slow pained movements. Just coming down here from where the bedrooms were was exhausting, but he needed a change of scenery and at some point some food. He stood by the huge glass windows, resting his forehead glumly on the glass as he looked out over the ocean.

There always was a risk associated to every rescue. Grandma Tracy knew that and thought she could live with it, making sure to give her family the support it needed to keep Jeff’s dream alive.

But when John’s accident happened, the fear of losing someone became all too real.

Sure, her grandsons often found themselves in dangerous situations. Whether it was in normal rescues or when they were face to face with the Mechanic or the Hood, they often dropped out of communications. But every time, they came back and they were fine, as well as the people they were rescuing.

So when Alan brought back his brother from space, it reminded her to never take for granted how lucky they were, day after day, to come back home and see another sunrise together.

But Sally never was one to sit down and worry about what could have gone wrong. She moved forward. If anything, she took a bit more time to appreciate the present and having John home was a great opportunity to spend some time with him in the flesh. She missed her tall awkward ginger grandson.

When it was decided to move him back to his room, she put fresh bed sheets and opened the window before his brothers escorted him here. Still, she didn’t fool herself. John never was one to quietly stay in bed when he was sick.

Therefore, she wasn’t surprised to see him in the living room three days after his accident, his forehead against the glass one of the huge windows. Truth to be told, she was happy to see him out of his room, especially after how withdrawn he was the day before.

“I hope you’re planning on cleaning that up,” she said to catch his attention. “I cleaned the windows yesterday and I would love it if they could stay clean for a little more than 24 hours.” She folded her arms before grinning.

See Grandson. Grandson is very tired. Grandson looks like he could use a hug. Hug Grandson?

Totally hug Grandson. Would have hug said Grandson anyway. But because Grandson needs hug, he gets an extra squeeze.

A warm, tired smile filled Virgil’s face as Grandma came over to him and he ended up on the receiving end a hug. Instantly every exhausted ache and pain eased for at least a moment. “Nnnrgh, hey Grandma,” Virgil mumbled in greeting, gently wrapping his arms back around her to return her hug with one of his own. They really did have the best grandma.

He didn’t only look tired. He also sounded like he was. But Grandma wasn’t too worried.

Yet.

“You seem like you could use a good rest, Virgil.” Grandma Tracy hugged him a bit more before take a small step back to have a better look at him. “So why aren’t you sleeping yet?” She asked with a gentle smile on her face.

"Are you sure? I feel like it's been forever since I've seen you." Beatrix can't help but squeeze Sally that little bit tighter before releasing her.

Sall laughs. “That’s because I didn’t cook for you in a while. Let me go to the kitchen and make you a little something. It’s my turn to cook for the family tonight.”

"Hey, Grandma, what was it like when you grew up. You know, before computers and stuff." Alan was truly curious, though wasn't quite sure exactly when his grandmother was born. XD

“Alan, we did have computers back in the days.” Grandma Tracy shakes her head at her grandson. “But I’ve seen the evolution of it.”

“Take a seat and let me tell you alllllll about it.” She smiles to him.

"Sally!" An excited Beatrix is quick to hug her friend, "I've missed you!"

She barely has time to answer when Bee wrapped her arms around her, but Sally just laughs. “I was only gone since this morning, Beatrix.” Nonetheless, Grandma Tracy returns the hug with a bright smile.

Jeff has to shout over the noise, “Mom?! Sorry it’s late! Lucy’s out for a few days and...Scott won’t stop crying! I don’t know what to do!”

Sally hears Scott before Jeff could speak. “It’s ok, son. I wasn’t in bed yet.” She reaches over to grab her glasses and sits up. “What’s wrong with Scotty? Did you check if he had a fever?”

Gordon: What do you mean your name isn't Grandma?

“You boys called me Grandma all the time. I guess it COULD be my only name now.” She chuckles. “Honestly, Gordon. Have you never heard your father say my name? ‘Eat your cookies or Grandma Sally will be very sad.’ Remember?”

Considering the latest episode, let me tell you a thing or two...

IT WAS AMAZING!!!

I know, everyone is still stuck at the revelation about Virgil and John, but being the mun of Grandma Tracy, it was the rest that interested me since it was another Virgil/Grandma episode. X3

And boy, I had more than I asked for!!!

Ever since Grandma told Scott how to stabilize TB1, I just knew she had to be a pilot before IR. But JUST that scene wasn’t enough to make the headcanon. But already, we could tell that Grandma was more than just making bad cookies. I hoped so much for another episode to see more of her because ever since Up from the Depths, I was STUCK on Grandma. I had those hypothesis but not enough material to back it up.

Then Grandma Tourismo was aired and it was EVERYTHING I KNEW GRANDMA WAS!

The world traveling!!! I knew she would be that kind of woman that loved to see the world!

The piloting!! You guys have no idea how much I squealed when she took the controls of TB2!!!! Like! OMG I KNEW IT!!!! Grandma used to be a pilot!!

SHE TAUGHT JEFF!

The more it goes, the more my feeling that “Grandma is the origin” is becoming true. She loves speed. Jeff loves it too. She told Virgil in Unplugged how to fix things. Jeff took it and called it the “Jeff Tracy fix”. There’s so much of Grandma in Jeff and the boys. I’m just...

YAY!!! X3

And her name!!! Sally! Such a beautiful name. X3 You can BET that from this moment forward, there are no more Ruth here but Sally. :D I’m not disappointed at all. I knew Ruth was a temporary name until the info would come out. There was no way I could have guessed it. XD So it’s fine with me.

AND OMG SHE CALLS SCOTT “SCOTTY”. But she does it while being in a “family setting” aka grocery shopping. XD Otherwise, it’s always Scott and that’s fine with me. Or maybe she calls him Scotty when he’s not around. I’ll have to discuss this with the mun who rps my Scott and see what we’ll do with that info and hear her thoughts on the subject. :)

This episode shaded some light on many of my doubts and I feel FREE again to write Grandma and develop her further. Once Inktober is done, I’ll be able to write here again and I have so MUCH to figure out now! I hope you’ll all look forward to it! :)
