Sorry for not posting!
Aubree and Levi have been a hot mess with all our graduation events! Will check back in soon!
First movie up at the film festival!
So this is where we graduate?!! We dont even know where the movies are being premiered?!!! San Diego Academic Center #SDAC problems...
On our way to present this last final! USC School of social work film festival!! 7pm See you there!
It's that time of the year again as the 11th Annual USC School of Social Work Film Festival comes to UPC on Monday, May 11th at the Seeley G. Mudd (SGM 123 – Auditorium) building at 7:00pm showcasing nine short documentaries created in our SOWK 687: Media in Social Work elective from students at UPC and SDAC. The title of this years film festival is The Digital Revolution: Social Workers Creating Cinema! During this semester, the elective attempts to empower students to make a difference in their communities through the use of the short documentary format via live screenings or digital communication to impact our communities in the modification of attitudes and behaviors regarding social issues. Believing that the best films and videos are made in close collaboration with other creative members, students work in small groups to produce, direct, and edit a short documentary and then develop an outreach plan for larger distribution. This years documentary subjects include: 1. Love Conquers. A Carlos Velez, Miriam Joya and Jessica Akintunde film. A mother enters prison at a young age only to find the challenges that her and many others face after serving time and being released into their community. Web blog: http://phoenix-productionz.tumblr.com 2. Fearless. A Nicole Rodriguez and Olivia De La Riva film. A ten year old transgender girl and her family share how they overcome isolation, discrimination, and resistance in the midst of transitions that changes their lives forever. Web Blog: https://fearlesstransyouth.wordpress.com/ 3. Soup is Mostly Water. A Grace Bakke and Angela Guilfoyle film. An imaginative artist struggling with mental illness also must confront the stigma of the larger society. Web blog: https://thetristendoc.wordpress.com/ 4. The Invisibles. A Jesse Scott, Kiana Alzate and Caroline Ashkar film. Witness four stories of those experiencing homelessness - whom the larger community considers “invisible” – teach us about their dignity. Web blog: http://theinvisiblesfilm.tumblr.com 5. 8 Seconds. An Alexandra Biener, Paola Guzman, and Elizabeth Mour film. Soldiers of the Israeli Defense Forces are humanized as protectors and ethical decision makers as told through the stories of three former IDF soldiers and their training to always value human life. Web blog: https://8secondsthefilm.wordpress.com 6. Unconditional. An Angela Bianco, John Hannaberry, and Jessica Campos film. Human and animal homelessness are explored and the ambivalence of the joy and pain felt through the shared experience. Web blog: https://www.facebook.com/petsofhomeless 7. Defeat Domestic Violence: Watch Women Thrive. A Heather Paetow and Jaclyn Denton film. The amazing life of courageous women who are thriving after escaping domestic torment and why we should not be a DV “down the hall” bystander. Web blog: http://www.defeatdv.tumblr.com/ 8. Dating Through Time: A Karen Del Fierro, Rauna Landing, and Alexis Troche film. A story of different people across different walks of life who have dated, loves, and lost all while using old fashioned and technological ways of connection, and how these avenues impacted their view of love. Web blog: https://datingin2015adocumentary.wordpress.com/ 9. After the Last Dose. An Aubree Vance and Spencer Levi Amansec film. Walk in the shoes of three transitional age youth who struggle with opiate addiction and families who share their children’s stories from opiate overdose. Web blog: http://theopiatelyfe.tumblr.com/ The film festival honors their contributions and confers status on their subjects with the fundamental belief that the visual arts combined with social work practice can - 1) expand our definition of community; 2) is capable of modifying attitudes and behaviors toward groups; 3) social impact can be measured using specific metrics; and 4) is a best practice macro tool for intervention. Admission is free. Reception to follow. Please join us!
Today was the big day! Glad to see everyone who came out to watch our San Diego Academic Center Student Film festival!! Can't wait to premiere our movies at UPC next Monday!
How Aubree and Spencer Levi celebrate Cinco de Mayo!
Believe it or not.
Spencer Levi just finished editing the final product May 6th at 4:17am..
See you at the film festival.
What a cramming session
3 days to makea movie.
Aubree's thoughts.
http://contemporarypediatrics.modernmedicine.com/contemporary-pediatrics/content/tags/addiction/transitional-aged-youth-and-substance-use-teenaged-ad Informational article on substance use in transitional age youth (age 16-26) and treatment suggestions. My thoughts on wrapping up the documentary: "It has been a wild ride making this documentary! Little did I know three months ago I would have the opportunity to hear the stories from such a diverse group of people that have all dealt with prescription opiates in some form or another. I have experienced all types of emotions and my empathy has grown immensely for the vulnerable transitional age youth population. Addiction is a disease and needs to be treated like one. I hope this documentary changes the way Doctors, families and professionals treat this addiction. Like an illness.
Closing up shop for the day.
8 hours of work gave us 5 miuntes of film. Still not 100%. But you can't rush the process!
3 hours for 3 minutes
Im going to take a lunch break.. i don't know if what I have works.. “story -wise” i feel like its missing lackluster.
Staying up late to make this movie.. Looking for B- roll; any volunteers?
12:48 am.
Story first.
Back to the drawing board again. Now that finals are wrapping up, Aubree and Levi are now diving in headfirst to story and execution to wrap up the context of their documentary film!
