I'm playing Kirby Super Star Ultra, and I noticed some subgames seem to lie within the "canon" Kirbyverse while others don't.

Is it ever stated it determined which ones are canon and which ones aren't?

at the very least, revenge of meta knight, revenge of the king, milky way wishes, and spring breeze are all canon to the kirbyverse: the halberd is sunk in ssu but taken back out of the water in squeak squad, masked dedede makes its first canonical appearance in revenge of the king, and spring breeze is merely a dream land remake. also, if revenge of meta knight is canon, it stands to reason dyna blade is canon too, as she helps kirby in it.

metaknightmare ultra (mostly), the arena, and the true arena are all confirmed to be not canon as of the developer commentary on miiverse, stating they're "what if" modes, and it's fair to reason helper to hero also counts as one of these. milky way wishes IS canon however, again due to the miiverse posts: they say triple deluxe takes place right after mww if I remember correctly.

I don't recall any information on whether or not gourmet race or great cave offensive are canon or not. if the treasures in gco are the actual things that they are, it's likely not canon, as things like the triple star cane and drawcia's brush appear. gourmet race is just sort of an anomaly though, but I like to think of it as canon.

I'm also not sure if the sub games are canon, they're probably in the same boat as gourmet race I suppose.

this may be what @king11k is talking about, and it's what I meant when I said "mostly" in regards to metaknightmare ultra. again, certain modes count as "what if" scenarios, and didn't happen in the main universe.

...that is, except for galacta knight. in this post, it's implied galacta knight is canon to the series, yet doesn't appear in the main series. it's a popular theory that this single galacta knight is who is fought in every one of his battles, essentially "locked out of canon" and doomed to never be a part of the actual series of events due to the seal that was put on him as described by nova.

Hey so, in the Galacta Knight fight, Star Dream summons him using a Space-Time Transport Program. And boots up an Extra-Dimensional Road right?

So here’s the game theory.

Susie was sent to Another Dimension. And since Star Dream HAS the ability to SEND people to other dimensions, they also have the ability to RETRIEVE them, like they did with Galacta Knight.

They just didn’t.

Sending Susie to Another Dimension wasn’t an accident. It was a calculated decision. Think about it. Isn’t it odd that only memories of SUSIE were deleted from Haltmann’s mind? Like, that’s EXTREMELY specific. There’s no way that was just an unfortunate coincidence. Star Dream purposefully got rid of Susie, and then proceeded to erase any and all of Haltmann’s memories regarding her existence. 

But why?

Because they didn’t see her as prosperous to the company. They say in the final fight that the company has always valued prosperity over all. And so, because they didn’t see Susie as a valuable asset to the company, (due to her probably being like, a child at the time) they erased her.

TLDR: Star Dream purposefully got rid of Susie, and then erased her from Haltmann’s mind because they didn’t see her as a valuable asset to the company.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and the Timeline

I’ve decided to post this now instead of when I actually get here on the timeline so that I could get my thoughts down on the subject before I forget anything, and also because I like talking about this.

SPOILER ALERT FOR MANY RECENT KIRBY GAMES, SUCH AS KIRBY: PLANET ROBOBOT AND TEAM KIRBY CLASH DELUXE!

While it may be common knowledge/speculation that this game takes place in another dimension, which I do believe myself, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have any impact on canon. Quite the opposite, actually: it may be responsible for quite a bit of Robobot!

I’ll start with the most obvious link to our canon: the Organic Egg of this game, Magolor, is undeniably the Magolor from the main timeline, specifically after Return to Dream Land (and in my timeline, Dream Collection). There are two major pieces of evidence for this. The first small link is, if you manage to buy the maximum amount of gem apples, he gives this line of dialogue: (Please excuse the camera quality, I can’t do much better)

He thanks Kirby and co. YET AGAIN, implying they’ve helped him with bigger things in the past. The second piece of evidence literally states he’s from another dimension, though, and provides a great link to my next point. If you play Kirby: Planet Robobot on the same 3DS as Kirby Clash, you get a special sword weapon and armor based off of Susie. The sword itself is VERY interesting:

“Modeled on a certain executive assistant’s favorite armor. It forms a blade of light using technology from beyond this dimension.” This directly states that Magolor at least got this from another dimension, which leads me to believe that, paired with the previous line, he is definitely our egg. However, this also implies something else: he knows OUR Susie. Yes, there’s another Susie in the game, but it’s more than likely a mirror clone. Plus, the technology is specifically from another dimension: if that’s Kirby Clash’s mirror Susie, she still wouldn’t have the tech, as their normal Susie doesn’t.

This leads me to believe that this is where Susie went to gather the data from Sphere Doomers into the Holo Defense API. If you’ve forgotten from its pause description:

Susie has dealt with them before. And where may she have gotten the data from?

The Greater Doomer, either this or the Tougher!Greater Doomer. If you pay attention to its attacks, it only uses the standard and fire Doomer attacks, the same ones the API creates.

With this evidence, we can come to the conclusion that Clash’s Magolor is the same as Return’s, Susie has been to this dimension to gather data for the API doomers, and this these events, in relation to the normal universe, take place right in between the Kirby’s Dream Collection Bonus Stages, and Kirby: PLanet Robobot. It may also explain why Magolor has items modeled off of bosses such as Dark Matter Swordsman and Drawcia. They may also, be in the Clash universe like Taranza and Dark Mind, but in my opinion this would be more logical.

(finally just a little headcanon of mine, I like to think that Magolor is seen during Galacta Knight’s attack going to leaving this dimension. Why? no reason other than that I want Metaknightmare to be canon on some level, heh.)

The Kirby Timeline: Part 1

I’ve decided that I’ll be posting my timeline in separate parts. This way, I can actually make posts between now and when I’m done, and other people may have conflicting opinions I can either disprove or have to accept. Let’s begin!

Kirby’s Dream Land to Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

It should be no surprise that Kirby’s Dream Land is first on the timeline. But, since things aren’t always what they seem in terms of order, I still needed to prove it was. So, after looking around a bit, I found that Kirby’s trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee does solidify it as first. The quality of this picture isn’t the best, but it reads: “A denizen of the far-off, peaceful planet of Pop Star, Kirby became a citizen of Dream Land after defeating King Dedede.” So, if we are assuming the other games take place while he’s living in Dream Land, this game must be first. Finally, since Spring Breeze is essentially a remake of this game, it shares this spot at first.

Now it’s time to note: Kirby’s Dream Land 2 and 3 may go anywhere between this and 64. I like to group both directly before 64, but there isn’t anything suggesting they are.

Next is Super Star Stacker and Smash Bros. It goes after Dream Land as he must have done something to warrant getting into it. Smash needs to go before Amazing Mirror because the pause screen description of the Smash ability says that Kirby fights with “familiar fighting moves”, so it needs to go before that. Star Stacker is tied in with this, though. I’ve seen in a video that, in a 20th anniversary special Kirby book, there’s a picture in the Star Stacker section that’s also used in a smash stage, solidifying it before Smash. However, this evidence is sketchy at best, since I can’t get ahold of the Japanese-only book this is in, so if anyone can verify it then please tell me!

This next game may seem a bit out there, but it’s Amazing Mirror. Dark Meta Knight slices Kirby into the four different colors we see today, and I believe that it’s those four that we’ve seen in games since, and not others of his species. To my knowledge, we haven’t seen any games with more than four different kirbies on screen (except obviously mass attack, but that was caused by Necrodeus) that aren’t a direct result from the original pink Kirby, so it’s completely plausible these are the same ones. Also, any color changes can be attributed to the spray paints seen in various games.

Related to this is Dedede tour. While it may seem that this mode either isn’t canon or comes right after Triple Deluxe, there are two main things that contradict this. One is that, when King Dedede gets to the Dimension Mirror at the end of the mode, he jumps in. However, after he’s done battling Dark Meta Knight, he does not jump back OUT: this means that for the entire mode, he was already in the mirror world, and he smashed the mirror so nothing else could get in (of course, Taranza is confirmed to have repaired it by the events of Triple Deluxe). This also explains why the bosses are different colors than in the main mode: mirror entities have a different color scheme than their original counterparts. The reason I see this is canon is because it explains one very big plot point later on, that I’ll get into in a later post.

After this is Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. This game wraps up the plot points including Dream Land 2 and 3, with Dark Matter (at least for now), but also includes different colored Kirbies, placing it after Amazing MIrror. Again, I like to say it goes Dream Land 2, then 3, then 64, for simplicity’s sake.

So, to recap, so far we have:

This post is subject to being edited, however, if I come across any new evidence regarding the placement of these games. If anything is significantly changed, I’ll make a post about it, but minor things backing these points up most likely will not be announced.

Next time I’ll be covering the implications Nightmare in Dreamland puts on the timeline, as well as placing a few games which come after it.

The Kirby Timeline: Prologue

In this post, I’ll be talking about the general layout of my timeline of the chronological sequence of the Kirby series I’ve put together, and how I classify things such as the Smash games and Metaknightmare modes, in case anyone wonders about my thoughts on if they’re canon.

Remakes I do count as canon for the timeline, and I believe they hold more precedence over the original games. So far this rule has only furthered my work on the timeline, so I’ll be keeping it like this unless I find conflicting evidence for it. If anyone believes there is, tell me! I’d love to either learn that I was false and make improvements to this thing!

As for Metaknightmare, I believe that these do not count as canon. It’s possible that Galacta Knight has some relation to Magolor, but these modes altogether have been confirmed not to be canon.

Aaaand Smash Bros. Most people probably don’t count these as canon, but I do. There are a total of three games so far with the Smash ability so far, and Master Hand and Crazy Hand appear in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, and have other cameos as well, such as being stickers in Planet Robobot. Not only this, but there’s also evidence for the other Smash characters to be in Kirby, such as Samus appearing in Dream Land 3, or Mario and company in Spring Breeze, so there’s no real reason as to why Smash shouldn’t be canon.

I’ll have an entire separate post for Team Kirby Clash Deluxe at some point, but for now I’ll just say that yes, in some capacity, I regard it as canon, but in another dimension.

I will NOT be counting Kirby’s Avalanche or Kirby’s Toy Box: Avalanche because it wasn’t made in Japan and therefore wasn’t supervised by the actual Kirby creators, and Toy Box simply because of how hard it would be to actually review it for a spot on this timeline (also because I’m unsure of its canonicity).

Although these are my current rules, things can always change! As new games come out or I find any conflicting evidence, anything is possible. Again, if you find anything that’s contradictory to anything, please tell me, and I’ll either do my best to explain or change my timeline!

Edit: I almost forgot that i count the super star/ultra sub-games as separate things! That may not seem like it should be important, but trust me, it is!

Who does Magolor know?

(Before I get on with this theory, I’d like to say that lately I’ve been working a timeline of the Kirby series: these first few posts will not only be giving a theory, but also working into that. Enjoy!)

Minor spoilers for Kirby Triple Deluxe, Kirby Planet Robobot and Kirby’s Return to Dreamland ahead! During the events of Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, it’s made clear that Magolor knows about Kirby from somewhere, he even states it himself if you collect every Energy Sphere. however, he says he knows someone ELSE who knows Kirby, too:

I’ve seen many speculations on who this person might be, ranging from Marx to Galacta Knight and everyone in between, based off of another piece of information Magolor gives:

Here, it’s stated that Magolor both knows someone who knows Kirby well, and implies they’ve fought with him before. some, like Galacta, have a surprisingly good case, Galacta’s being he’s associated heavily with Magolor (the lor appearing in his attack in Robobot, being a secret boss in Return to Dreamland) however, one thing throws this and others off: he wouldn’t know Kirby well (also, he’s never canonically fought him).

So this means the person he knows would have to both have canonically fought with Kirby, be somewhat of a friend with him, and know Magolor. It would be an extremely hard feat to prove all of this, except for one minute detail in Triple Deluxe, this room in stage 4 of Wild World:

Here, there’s a portrait of Magolor on the left side of the wall. But there’s another on the right side: of either Taranza or Queen Sectonia pre-mirror corruption. While it may be an easter egg, when you think about it, it means Taranza and/or Sectonia would have to at least be acquainted with Magolor to have their portraits be in the same room.

Now, if we take everyone who has fought with Kirby over the years, Taranza seems to be the best fit for all three requirements, as he fought Kirby throughout the game, has this portrait, and is presumably friends with him now. This leads me to believe that Taranza is the one Magolor was referring to have known in Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, and that Kirby’s Return to Dreamland takes place some time after Kirby Triple Deluxe.

Nice theory, but I’d like to take it further. I believe that Magolor was referring to Dark Meta Knight, rather than Taranza. Long explanation incoming, some reaches.

DMK, after being defeated, absorbed some of Dark Minds power (think Marx and NOVA), allowing him mirror abilities including teleportation between mirrors. Eventually, through this, DMK found himself on/near Halcandra, where Galacta Knight was sealed (secret GK True Arena battle). DMK studied GK (hence KTDs similarities) and then met Magolor, who he made deals with. DMK told Magolor of Kirby in hopes of getting him defeated, and convinced him to crash in Dream Land. {from here, we go stretchier} Taranza came by (royal business, most likely) and encountered Magolor, who (on order of DMK) gave her the mirror DMK used. To honour him, Taranza had paintings made of Magolor (hence paintings).

Ok serious talk tho, why did they use the OS part in Star Dream Soul OS, instead of just Star Dream Soul? Is it because they wanted to go for that mechanical/computerized aesthetic?

I ask because it is so funny to me. I mean, OS stands for Operating System (I can’t think of anything else they would have meant), and it is implying that Star Dream Soul is an operating system (which I think this implies it can be a system beyond Star Dream? So like, Star Dream is one version of Windows and Star Dream Soul OS is the next version of Windows, for comparison).

It makes me laugh because all I can think of is what kind of operating this wish granting, organic life form hating, computer would use if it were using something we have today. Imagine this thing running on Windows (or, for real laughs, whatever the fuck the Mac OS is). That’s funny on it’s own because there is no way it could function like it does if it used Windows.

Ok, so it’s sorta weird to explain so I’m just going to quote a YouTube comment that basically summed it up and go off that.

“So this thing was so CARTOONISHLY COMPLEX that it wrote itself a GODAMN SOUL PROGRAM to fight you with.”

Basically, since a robot or computer can’t really have a soul, Star Dream made itself one. Like, it coded its own soul program for itself to run on. Since it’s not really a soul and is just a program, it’s a soul operating system, and what you fight is Star Dream using that program. Or, possibly, the program itself.
