Fieldwork chapter 13
Prince Essuan is a 38 year old immigrant from Ghana. Prince migrated 8 years ago in hope of a better life. Americans were seen as rich, wealthy, and free to Ghana’s which is what pulled Prince here. Prince wanted “a lot of money and human rights” which are two things Ghana doesn’t offer. Prince moved to New York when he first came then eventually settled in Washington D.C. When he first moved the first thing he notices is it’s way more people in New York than Ghana. He also really loved how people minded their business and nobody really knew each other. The worst and most uncomfortable change is the crackheads and homeless people in New York. Prince wasn’t used to homeless crackheads which are all over New York and D.C. He also didn’t enjoy how rude people are and how people typically don’t speak or great each other.
Prince didn’t have many pulls besides opportunity. He wanted a better life for himself and free opportunity. The biggest barrier Prince had and is still facing is getting his green card and becoming a legal citizen. It takes up to 5 years for the immigrant to get full citizenship. Prince is 2 years into the process and is currently working to get all his Ghanaian paperwork to transfer over. Because Prince is from Ghana they offer work visas. Prince was given a work visa from Ghana. After he can here he had to get his visa approved by America which took a month. After the visa was approved Prince was allowed to legally work and had to pay taxes. Without a green card Prince cannot vote or doesn’t have the same rights as full citizens. Places like Europe don’t offer green cards so the process of being able to legally work is very difficult.
Prince slept on the floor his first week being in America until he could find a place to stay. Now he is a self employed Uber driver who is planning on going to school for IT. He will never regret migrating because it changes his life.
Group 9
1. I picked Bigger picture by lil baby because he talks about racism and how the world is unfair. He also talks about genders not being treated equally and mothers losing their young kids to gun violence. He also talks about police brutality how often it happens in the world and only to African Americans and manly to men.
2. We chose run the world my Beyoncé because it’s about women empowerment. Run the world is the person song for the topic of gender because it does state how women are powerful and run the world.
3. Cheetah sister is a song by Disney group the cheetah girls. The song fits perfect for the topic of family because although they aren’t blood the girls still consider each other sisters. The topic of family is not just about blood but the relationship between two people.
4. Marry me by Jason Derulo is a good song to go with chapter 9 marriage because in the song he is explaining why he wants to marry her. In the book marriage is a relationship that includes physical and emotional intimacy and legal rights. In the song he talked about how she makes him feel is one of kind and things of that nature

Bourdieu’s theory
This article illustrates Bourdieu’s theory which is to understand the relations of power and to develop a reflective sociology. His key concepts are habitus, practice, fields, and different forms of capital, such as cultural, economic, social, and symbolic.
WEBER’S THEORY
Weber's theory prioritizes efficiency, but it isn't necessarily the best practice for leaders to implement.
Weber’s theory discusses how one’s class position in life can affect their life chances. Max Weber's social theory was based on a person's market position ( middle class, high class, and poor living). Max Weber believes all business tasks must be divided equally among the employees.
Fieldwork 7
My family chart is unique because many of my family lives in North Carolina. The people in the chart are the bulk of my family in Maryland and looking at the chart reminds me of how big my immediate family is and how much higher my extended family is. My father side is smaller because I don’t know much about his family tree. Both his mother and father wasn’t really in his life and the person who raised him which is my his grandma passed before I could meet her. I didn’t include all of my martial cousins but I have many and i also have a few cousins on the way.
ch. 6 Fieldwork
My immediate family including myself was born and raised in Washington DC. I was raised with my mother, grandma and aunt in northeast Dc. My great grandma (my grandmothers mother) was born and raised in gastonia north Carolina. She moved to Dc when she was 18 years old giving birth to my grandmother and her 3 sibling in 1959. My great grandfather (grandmas father) was born in Sumpter South Carolina and moved to Dc in 1955 at the age of 17. As far back as my grandmother knows nobody in my family migrated from somewhere else. Many of family moved to different parts of the United States like California, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas. We all identify as African American. My father dad is French and Native American however he was killed before I was born so I don't know much about his side and neither foes my father. I have always identified as African American and adapted the same habits as my African American family members.
My family celebrates every tradition Christian American holiday. We celebrate Christmas, thanksgiving, halloween, 4th of July, and Easter. We don't celebrate smaller holidays like Veterans Day, memorials day, and Columbus Day. We are an African American family therefore we celebrate holidays the typical ways. We typically have cookouts for the 4th of July and easter. Christmas eve and thanksgiving we typically chose a family members house to have a potluck/family get-together. My mother, grandmother, and aunt typically cooks some food on Christmas Day and opens gift in the house. One of are family traditions are we cook strawberry stickies which are baked strawberries, butter, and sugar rolled in pie dough. Its delicious! We also do typical dances like the wobble, electric slide, the cha cha slide, and the casper slide. My family listens to pogo music, Rhythm and blues, and a little rap music at cookouts.
My upbringing is typical of an African American girl raised in Washington DC. I noticed after coming to Morgan a lot of my friends who are from different parts of the United States don't have the same upbringing as me. Certain dances my cousins and I know that are popular in the dmv aren't popular everywhere.
My sources was my grandmother.

Consumerism Culture
After completing this assignment I learned I have a lot of name brand things. Everything I own is either new, customized, or a popular brand. I don't see myself as vain however, I can be materialistic and I can admit to that. Being in generation z I believe plays a huge roll in why I am materialistic because I tend to order things I see online and want to be trendy and up to date when it comes to fashion and electronics. Apple products are the most expensive things on my list and I love my apple products mainly because in my generation everyone has apple products. It's in a way looked down on if you don't. Im also also the type of female that really puts a lot into my appearance and the things I own so I will spend more on something cute and flashy when I could get it cheaper but not as flashy. I realized a lot about myself doing this assignment.

SKILCRAFT gel pen
In 1968 the General Services Administration wrote a document for a retractable ballpoint pen with a replaceable ink cartridge. The first shipment of 13 million was defective from the original supplier in 1967. GSA commissioner Heinz Abersfeller offered NIB the opportunity to produce a new set of pens after finding a new supplier. On April 20, 1968, the SKILCRAFT US government pen was added to the federal procurement list, making it available to federal purchasers through the Abilityone program. The pen is used by the government and government workers..
According to the Washington post, the pen that was manufactured by the blind and was born out of legislation passed 72 years ago. The pen was made by the blind all over America.
I love gel pens. I only use gels pens because of how clear and bright the writing is. My grandma works for the government and she has a lot of SKILCRAFT pens because they are government issued. My grandma gave me a lot of these pens so they mean a lot to me.
Skilcraft the company was founded and made by the blind. many of which were retired government workers, homeless people, and retired government workers came together to create an amazing gel pen the government can use. Although the first batch of pens didn't work out, the company grew and many other visually impaired joined.
