Soon, I will be boarding a plane and heading to Cambodia and Thailand for a few weeks. Iâm pretty excited to finally be able to visit my husbandâs home country and the country which he was born. Itâs going to be an experience and I am going to try to keep everyone updated through blog and on Instagram. So, make sure you check back!
For all you fellow travellers out there, I wanted to share with you some things that I have on my packing list. Iâll be headed on a 15-hour journey to a third-world country with city and beaches. Therefore, I have compiled a little list of must-pack things thanks to the suggestions of some friends and family and Iâll tell you where you can get them too. Amongst other items, these are the ones I think you should all consider bringing.
Umbra Tangram Travel Organizer â while at the cottage with my family, I noticed this hanging on the bathroom door. I loved the simple, clean design and I liked how it was not very bulky in comparison to other hanging toiletry bags. When I saw it at Solutions, I knew I had to get it. I usually have to bring a bunch of small items such as toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, Qtips, contacts case, some jewelry, so keeping it all in one place is convenient. I got mine from Solutions, an amazing store for organization, but you can also grab this from Umbraâs website or also on Amazon for $10-$15.
Poo-Pourri â Weekend away? Group trips? Do not go without Poo-Pourri! I first discovered this when one of my friends brought this to a weekend getaway. It was perfect for six girls and one bathroom. All you do is spray a few spritz in the toilet bowl before doing your business and it traps the odors. Donât be grossed out â be thankful that there is Poo-Pourri. You can grab this from their website in the link above. For my Canadian friends, there is a Canadian website here and I also found this at Chapters Indigo. It comes in many different scents and starts at $10 a bottle.
TSA Lock â My best friend, who is also travelling to Asia this month, told me about these TSA locks which have a separate key hole for TSA officers to open if they need to instead of breaking the lock. You can find these anywhere that sells any sort of travel accessories. I would suggest getting one with a number combination like this one so you can avoid holding and possibly losing a key. I got this one at Marshalls for $5.99 and got it in a bright colour so I can recognize it a little easier on my luggage.
Ikea Pillow â for any long flight, donât go without a travel pillow. I tried to go on a 13-hour flight to Hong Kong without one and paid for it afterward. This was all because I didnât want to lug a pillow in my carry-on. There are a few versions of travel pillows. Whether, it is a memory foam, bead-filled or inflatable, find the one that is suitable for you. Make room in that carry-on if you plan to sleep on the plane. I chose this inflatable and compactable one from Ikea. It is easy to inflate and comfortable with the fabric cover it comes with. Best of all, when the flight is over, I can deflate and roll away. This pillow I got for $10.
Silicone Travel Bottle â Regular bottles will do just fine, but I realized that these silicone bottles have a slight upper hand. The openings are wider for easier fill and you are able to squeeze the contents easier with the softer silicone material. They are TSA-approved to carry on the plane also. They come in many different brands and I actually purchased mine from the dollar store to give it a try.
First Aid Box â wherever I go, I must have my stash of medication on me. I donât want to take any risks of sickness spoiling my vacations. I happened to find this red âfirst aidâ box that I liked. It is the perfect size for what I need and anyone who may need bandages or painkillers will not be able to miss this bright red box. Of course, any box or container will do the trick. I just happened to have found this at Solutions also.
Waterproof Phone Case â If youâre going to be near water on your vacation and you donât have a Go-Pro, get one of these waterproof phone cases. This one by Choetech fits devices up to 6-inches, is floatable and comes with a detachable lanyard to hold around your neck. It is still touch screen capable so you donât have to miss out on any water fun. I got my cases from Amazon, 2 cases for $15.
Tea Tree Oil â This trick I just recently read up on and Iâm pretty sure it will be staying on my future packing lists. Nobody wants to spend their vacations worrying about creepy crawlies outside or in hotel rooms. The one common predator for bedbugs, cockroaches and lice is tea tree oil. I read online that I could use at least 20 drops of pure 100% tea tree oil with water in a spray bottle. Give a spray to beds, luggage and surroundings to prevent any friends coming around. I bought this 10ml bottle for $7 at a health store. You will be able to find these at health food stores and pharmacies.
