I live in Chicagoland and have family friends who are brown and undocumented. It’s not good here.
I want to specify that the US government ICE agents rapelled from Blackhawk helicopters to take over an apartment building, breaking open apartment doors in the middle of the night to drag barely-clad residents from their homes and detain everyone in UHaul trucks with the children zip-tied to each other. Regardless of citizenship.
There was too much traffic today, and an ICE agent deployed a tear gas canister in traffic in response.
This is not normal.
From the very bottom of my heart: what the ACTUAL FUCK
It’s not even near me yet, but where I live there’s lots of brown folks so they’ll come.
This is surreal. We’re being attacked by the United States.
"ICE Agents Rappel From Black Hawk Helicopters Into Chicago for Major Raid" - MSN, published October 1st, 2025
Most mainstream media is barely covering it.
I genuinely wish I were surprised by that.
The Department of Homeland Security said federal agents with Border Patrol, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosi
Spread this far and wide - there's no paywall.
I am so sorry. I hope there is a civil lawsuit on behalf of the residents of that apartment building, but you are doing what you can by GETTING THE WORD OUT about illegal activities, violence against peaceful US citizens and children, kidnapping, property damage and terrorism being perpetrated on US soil against its residents by a hostile power threatening their democratically-elected officials who have jurisdiction.
Media did start doing its job. (Except Fox, of course, whose members are now literally on the payroll of the White House, eg Hegseth)

Los Angeles stands with you in solidarity and offers sone hope.
Its citizens used as many delaying tactics as they could, making it as expensive, inconvenient and uncomfortable as possible for ICE and the National Guard. — which unfortunately is probably the reason for some of the escalation, including helicopters.
ICE didn't like people crowdsourcing to report on activities in one's communities or following unmarked vehicles and honking horns and expressing freedom of speech
"The more time I spend with them, the less time they spend with my community," Vargas told Newsweek.
(note that this started because they teargassed store customers including her sister)
They also seem annoyed at white people expressing their freedom of speech with bumper stickers celebrating vacation stays or local community heritage.
Which reminds me, I found a reasonably-priced Mexican and US flag decal online. It arrived Friday. Time to clean the bumper and apply
Some sensible advice here:
Staying alert is good, but organized solidarity is essential in these times: know the rights of undocumented immigrants, don’t sound false a
I won't lie. This is grim. I have undocumented friends. Every time i see them, I'm afraid it may be the last time.
Call your reps. Write to news outlets. Talk to neighbors. Spread the word. Don't let this be normalized.
hi americans. do you feel helpless and scared? do you have access to a phone? boy, do I have the product for you!
it's "call your House representatives right fucking now"!
so the senate passed HR1 aka the big beautiful bill aka "let's slash the budget for every single public social service including planned parenthood clinical services, SNAP, and medicaid, while tripling ICE's budget and rolling back environmental protections" bill
here's what to do!
enter your zip code here to find your rep's name and number, as well as a script to read. if you want to go off-script, this site has some general tips.
call.
rinse and repeat every day
that's it!
I don't care if you don't think it's the most effective method of protest. you can do other things on top of this, it takes almost no time, and it's not going to hurt our chances at blocking or delaying it so more terms will be cut from the bill
THE ENTIRE WEST IS BEING PUT UP FOR SALE AND I AM BEGGING YOU TO CALL YOUR SENATORS
Trump’s budget bill has many, many things in it, but buried amongst it is the MILLIONS OF ACRES OF PUBLIC LAND FOR SALE.
This is the entirety of the Arizona state forests, the entire Cascades mountain range. Swathes of pristine desert around the national parks in Utah. On the doorstep of Jackson Hole.
THIS BILL IS BIG, BUT IT CAN BE AMENDED AND ABSOLUTELY MUST NOT PASS AS IS please.
If you have ever enjoyed the wilderness, we stand to lose it all forever.
CALLING your senators - NOT JUST IN THE WEST. ALL SENATORS, is CRUCIAL.
Outdoor alliance has a great resource for reaching out.
The Senate’s spending package could offer up nearly 300 million acres of public lands for sale—a vast area that includes nearly 100,000 mile
I don’t have a huge following but please, everywhere I have ever loved, the forests I grew up playing in, the land I got married on, is all at risk and I am begging.
HEY GUYS
Who wants to help ruin Trump's birthday?
Yup you heard that right. On June 14, Trump is planning on having a pretty big military parade to be all like "I'm such a powerful king" and in response there's going to be HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of protests against his regime telling him to sit his ass back down.
The link below has more information and a map of currently planned protests. There's options in every single state. Even if you can't go, share this information, and consider reaching out to organizers of local protests to see if they need any logistical help. Chances are, they'll appreciate it.
On June 14—Flag Day—Donald Trump wants tanks in the street and a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday. A spectacle meant to loo
As of today there are over 1400 protests planned! If you can, get your ass to one of them. Also, if there's not one near you yet, keep checking in - new ones continue to be added.
Are you an American? Do you love our nation's national parks, our libraries, affordable health care, and essential checks and balances? DO YOU NOT WANT TO GO TO WAR WITH CANADA?
Fuck, are you just a European and you're highly emotionally invested in what's going on?
Well good news, help spread the news. Special elections April 1st and this is going to help break down the narrow majority Republicans hold on Congress.
Florida has two congressional seats up for election April 1st, and Wisconsin has a highly televised race for their supreme court Court that Elon Musk has invested millions into.
If you're Floridian, check to see if you're eligible to vote in either of the elections listed here.
If you're a Wisconsinite, for some ungodly reason about half of your election information is buried in Google and hidden amongst government websites but, find your polling place now.
seriously please keep your cats inside
bird flu is extremely contagious and can be deadly for younger or older cats. the current strain that is spreading isn’t transmitted to humans, but there’s always a chance of viral mutation. if you usually let your cat out, please take this as a sign to keep your cat indoors for their sake and everyone else’s.
The majority of sick cats we have been seeing in the US have been indoor only cats being fed raw milk or raw poultry diets. Outdoor cats can certainly be exposed to bird flu by hunting wild birds or by roaming on farms, but indoor cats can and have died.
Please feed your cats cooked diets, whether canned, kibble or fresh cooked. If you are absolutely dead set on feeding a raw diet, switch to fish, pork, or other non-poultry/non-beef based diets! And nobody should be drinking raw milk, animal or human. Avian influenza is only one of many pathogens that can be found in unpasteurized milk, it’s just not worth the risk.
Indoor cats died of influenza after exposure to raw milk or raw diets

The company budsies, which specializes in making custom stuffed animals and making duplicates of old or lost plushies, is currently offering to recreate the beloved stuffed animal of any kid who lost theirs in the LA wildfire, free of charge.
Their instagram post said to share this, so please spread this around so that families who've lost everything can receive just a little bit more hope in their lives 🥺
this could actually really help the morale of the people over there. People often underestimate how much of the damage caused by fires is emotional (as opposed to purely financial). Comforting blankets, photos, books, stuffed animals, all the familiar things children and even parents derive a sense of security and comfort from ripped away from them for no good reason. this may not be much, but getting a kid a little stuffed animal to hug while his parents try to find a place to live... the emotional benefit is enormous. And if they aren't able to find a place to live, this might be all they have for a long time.
The evacuation prep poster is done! This poster is designed primarily with wildfires in mind, but the tips can apply to preparing for any much any disaster.

[[Image ID: A poster including a layered graphic showing what items to have ready to prepare for evacuating your home based on how much warning you have that you need to evacuate. The inner, red, level is labeled “No Warning.” The next, orange, level is labeled “Less Than an Hour.” The next, yellow, level is labeled “More Than an Hour.” The final, green, level is labeled “General Preparedness.” The items associated with each level and the text are included below. /end ID.]]
———-
Evacuation Prep:
As the world changes, it is important to be prepared to safely and efficiently evacuate your home, potentially with little or no warning. Preparing ahead of time can help to reduce stress and anxiety, and help you evacuate safely if the time comes.
Red Level (No Warning): People | Pets | Keys. Human life matters most. If you can’t rescue your pets, let them out to give them their best chance. If evacuating by car, don’t forget your keys.
Orange Level (Less Than an Hour): Crucial Meds | Important Papers | Money | Paper Map | Pet Vaccination Records. Crucial meds and medical equipment. Papers including passports, birth certificates, medical records, etc.. Multiple forms of payment. Paper map with marked evac routes in case of signal loss. Phone. Most evac centers require vaccine records for pets to be allowed in.
Yellow Level (More Than an Hour): Photos | Hard Drives | Computers | Chargers | Irreplaceable Items | OTC Meds | Pet Supplies | Pet Food | Clothes | Weather Gear. Family photos. Hard drives and computers. Make digital backups ahead of time. Charging cords. Irreplaceable items such as collectibles and mementos. Over the counter medical supplies such as Aspirin and tampons. Pet supplies such as bowls, crates, toys, and litter. Pet food and treats. Clothes. If you are running out of time grab your laundry basket. Weather gear if needed.
Green Level (General Preparedness): Food | Water | Radio | N95 Masks | Multitool | Power Pack | Gas | Stove + Fuel | Flashlight | Toiletries | Emergency Contact Info | Bedding | First Aid | Can Opener. Easy prep, shelf-stable food. Water. Battery powered/rechargeable NOAA weather radio. N95 masks for smoke. A multitool. Rechargeable power pack for phones. Keep your car at least partially fueled at all times. Portable stove and fuel for cooking food without power. Flashlight and spare batteries. Toiletries including hair products, toothbrush and paste, etc.. Emergency contact info for friends and loved ones. Spare pillows and blankets. Dedicated first aid kit. Can opener.
Save yourself time and stress by preparing an evacuation bag ahead of time and keep it in an easy to access place. At the end of every season rotate out the perishable items within such as food, water, and medications. The more you can keep in the bag, the more time you’ll have to grab everything else. Remember, it is okay if you can’t do everything. Some preparation is better than no preparation.
If you are in the U.S.A. and experiencing disaster related anxiety call the Disaster Distress Hotline at 1-800-985-5990 for support and resources.

Putting this back in rotation. Sigh.
Planet's Fucked: What Can You Do To Help? (Long Post)
Since nobody is talking about the existential threat to the climate and the environment a second Trump term/Republican government control will cause, which to me supersedes literally every other issue, I wanted to just say my two cents, and some things you can do to help. I am a conservation biologist, whose field was hit substantially by the first Trump presidency. I study wild bees, birds, and plants.
In case anyone forgot what he did last time, he gagged scientists' ability to talk about climate change, he tried zeroing budgets for agencies like the NOAA, he attempted to gut protections in the Endangered Species Act (mainly by redefining 'take' in a way that would allow corporations to destroy habitat of imperiled species with no ramifications), he tried to do the same for the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (the law that offers official protection for native non-game birds), he sought to expand oil and coal extraction from federal protected lands, he shrunk the size of multiple national preserves, HE PULLED US OUT OF THE PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT, and more.
We are at a crucial tipping point in being able to slow the pace of climate change, where we decide what emissions scenario we will operate at, with existential consequences for both the environment and people. We are also in the middle of the Sixth Mass Extinction, with the rate of species extinctions far surpassing background rates due completely to human actions. What we do now will determine the fate of the environment for hundreds or thousands of years - from our ability to grow key food crops (goodbye corn belt! I hated you anyway but), to the pressure on coastal communities that will face the brunt of sea level rise and intensifying extreme weather events, to desertification, ocean acidification, wildfires, melting permafrost (yay, outbreaks of deadly frozen viruses!), and a breaking down of ecosystems and ecosystem services due to continued habitat loss and species declines, especially insect declines. The fact that the environment is clearly a low priority issue despite the very real existential threat to so many people, is beyond my ability to understand. I do partly blame the public education system for offering no mandatory environmental science curriculum or any at all in most places. What it means is that it will take the support of everyone who does care to make any amount of difference in this steeply uphill battle.
There are not enough environmental scientists to solve these issues, not if public support is not on our side and the majority of the general public is either uninformed or actively hostile towards climate science (or any conservation science).
So what can you, my fellow Americans, do to help mitigate and minimize the inevitable damage that lay ahead?
