Awe-inspiring Hampi 05: Mahanavami Dibba This huge stone platform located in the Royal Enclosure of Hampi was used as a stage to celebrate the festival of Dasara. The stage is almost 40 feet tall with several intermittent platforms. The stage is elaborately decorated with carvings and has provisions for wooden posts for awnings. There is access to the stage from the back for performers to enter and exit. During Dasara, various performances were held on this stage for the king and public to view. Awe-inspiring Hampi 03: Huge Idols These are just a few of the remaining idols of Hampi. Looking at the scale of them, just to imagine the size of the temples that housed them. 1: Kadalekalu Ganesha is a 15 feet tall Ganesha statue carved out of a single boulder. The belly of this statue resembles a Bengal gram, known as Kadalekalu in Kannada, and hence the name. 2: Lakshmi Narasimha statue is the largest found in Hampi. It is also carved from a single boulder and is 22 feet in height! It showcases Narasimha seated in a yogic posture on the coils of Adisheha, the king of all snakes. Awe-inspiring Hampi 02: Markets Every temple in Hampi had a market adjoining it, each having it's own speciality products being sold. The temple and the adjoining market were the centres of social life. This market sold spices and is located next to the Sri Krishna Temple. Along with various stalls, it includes a holy tank and a donation box for Tirupati! The holy tank, along with the rest of Hampi, had a system of aquaducts supplying water to it. Awe-inspiring Hampi 01: Virupaksha Temple This temple, majorly built during the Vijayanagara Empire, is the only functioning temple among the ruins of the beautiful city of Hampi. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Virupaksha and Goddess Pampadevi. This temple is built with intricate details and technologies which implement mathematical concepts. It even has a pinhole lens of sorts, which inverts the shadow of the gopuram and projects it on a wall. Quarantine Crafts 9: Self-sustaining Terrarium Terrariums are mini-ecosystems within glass enclosures. This terrarium is made in an old glass jar with plants, twigs, soil, sand and stones found in and around my house. Its a complete ecosystem containing microfauna as well (you can see them moving around in the last 2 videos).
