AirBnB: Warning to all those travelling this summer

I know that this isn't really "prep" related, but it's a really important message that I think young adults need to hear.

AirBnB is a site where you can rent short term apartments in cities all over the world. It's like Craigslist, except it seems more legit at the time, and it's the new "craze." I've only heard good things about the website which is why I decided to use it while travelling around Europe.

As of right now, I'm in the process of being kicked out of my AirBnB apartment because the owners don't think that we are a "match." According to AirBnB customer service, this is perfectly within their rules and conditions. The website has absolutely no obligation to you to find accommodation for you, either, so once you're kicked out you are literally homeless.

AirBnB's customer service is despicable. Like I just said, they offer no protection for guests if the host doesn't provide the accommodation they paid for (or if they decide to just kick you out!). Since guests pay up front and not at check out, hosts can be terrible and heartless and it's completely up to guests to fight for a refund. As I've recently discovered, you shouldn't expect any help from AirBnB's customer service team in getting that refund. They simply do not care.

I'm lucky enough that I am travelling with my mother right now so we have managed to find a place to stay, but the website is primarily geared towards young adults who are travelling around Europe on their own and might not have parents to financially support them when they find themselves homeless (and broke) on the streets of Europe.

So please, please be careful when (if) you are booking your accommodation through AirBnB. I cannot stress this enough. It is a terrible service that will only do you more harm than good.
