Henry still called Charlie his daughter. Lefty knew he meant well, and Henry hadn’t known Charlie as anyone else but his bouncing baby girl. It made sense. And it wasn’t like Lefty had made any mention of anything different about that.

Charlie died when the world was different, when a ten year old wasn’t usually the most occupied with thoughts about gender when they were busy playing with Dads new robots or their twin brother. When people like the friends Lefty had made where they realized something different about themselves had to be even more careful to not be shown. Charlie didn’t know anything about that world.

But the world now was different. Lefty had met people that made them think. Gender hadn’t exactly been the thought on Leftys mind when they were a vengeful marionette hellbent on taking apart anyone resembling William. Lefty was more awake now, able to turn their mind to different things.

Maybe later, they could ask Henry to call them by something new. Charlie was still here, just a little different in a way he didn’t know yet. Charlie was okay.
