Lets see what trouble I stir up with this... America, land of the illusion of freedom.
If we were indeed free this would be a vastly different country.
Freedom of speech and press...
Here you are supposed to be able to say what you want without fear of persecution from others who do not share the same beliefs, yet we have fines levied against people who use a racial or sexist remark. I do not condone those actions but freedom of speech permits it, and thus people need to deal with it. They have a different opinion as you, you do not have to be that persons friend, or even listen to them if you do not want to, but they CAN say it under the constitution. offending someone is all it takes for legal action these days and that is not freedom at all. You CAN disagree with gay marriage, you CAN voice that opinion. you CAN NOT however deny someone the right to marry because you disagree with them. IF YOU DO, YOU ARE DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for destroying freedom that was fought for, and paid for in blood, sweat, and tears. even seemingly small things like this are just as dangerous to freedom as big government. restricting laws and red tape are roadblocks and enemies to freedom, laws that uphold and grant rights are the core of our nation but there are literally thousands of laws stating that you can NOT do things for every ONE law granting you a basic human right.
Taxes... A personal favorite subject of mine, the very fact that one is taxed on all they earn should be a clear statement that we are not free. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE in what you do with your own money, that is not freedom. No one but you is entitled to the fruits of your labor. I have much more on that topic but for the sake of time and not boring people to death with a novel, I am cutting it short.
Security, a word that has lead to more degradation of freedom than almost any other word, is not guarantied in a free society. in fact, a free people means there will be dangers, BUT you are also able to provide your own safety and security. The fact that you, as a person living in America, are subject to laws dictating when and how you can defend yourself, means you are not free. you can be sued for shooting someone who is trying to stab you, even though they intend to kill you. you used "excessive force" since they only had a knife, so you should only use your fists or match there force with a knife, not go beyond. You can also be sued if you are a good shot. if you get lucky, and it only takes one shot to bring down your assailant, you can be deemed "in control of the situation" and prosecuted even though you were defending yourself. judicious marksmanship should be a good thing. that is not free. you have a right to defend yourself via any means necessary.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE, YOU ARE NOT FREE.
IF YOU CAN NO LONGER VOICE YOUR OPINION, YOU ARE NOT FREE
IF YOU CAN BE CHARGED FOR DEFENDING YOUR LIFE, YOU ARE NOT FREE
IF SOMEONE ELSE IS ENTITLED TO YOUR WORK, YOU ARE NOT FREE
IF YOU HAVE TO HAVE MONEY TO SURVIVE, YOU ARE NOT FREE.
A HUMAN NEEDS FOOD, WATER, AND SHELTER TO LIVE. THAT IS ALL, IF YOU CAN NOT GET THOSE THINGS WITHOUT MONEY, THEN YOU ARE NO LONGER FREE.
