“5th sounds like a treat,” he agreed with a nod happily offering up his arm as they left shutting the door in his wake with a click of the lock. Without any further hesitation walking towards the elevator and pressing the button. “Is there anything besides your father’s visit coming up?” it was always prudent to ask in case he needed to get anything whilst they were out and about.

“Well, there’s Papa’s visit weekend after next. Before that I have a baby shower one of the girls I kept in touch with from high school invited me to, but that’s just going to be a quick dive in, get out, especially if I’m just not feeling up to it. And at some point I need to drag Jason out to do some grocery shopping even if he’s gonna hate it,” she explained as they made their way down the elevator and then into the hall. Hopefully Evan’s car would be waiting for them. “What about you? Anything important that’s come up? Where I can dress up and make people jealous?”

Not wanting to let her escape too far his hands came to drape over her shoulders pressing her in close aware the physicality of his presence would help her. He had ever desire she did but also the rationality to have grasped already that there was very little chance of going back. “I know Liz, I wish it were different but there’s very little we can do about it.”

“Isn’t there something we could do?” she asked; small, fragile. Liz hated this feeling, the feeling that there was nothing she could do to fix this situation. It was too similar to how she had felt after she and Evan had broken up. Less broken, but still, not in control. “I just want us to have more than just... this.”

Max: Aha I see!

Max: But first a test before we proceed further the very future of our friendship may depend upon it!

Max: This is the make or break question.

Max: Salted or sweet hm?

Liz: That is a hard question.

Liz: because kettle corn on some occasions is great

Liz: But i mostly like buttered popcorn, sometimes m&ms mixed up in them

“I admit that sometimes I reconsider when you’re drooling over my Egyptian cotton sheets but hey everyone has their flaws” he commented breaking away from her to head into the bathroom just to brush his teeth. After a spray of cologne he went to put his shoes on grabbing his keys and wallet along the way calling over his shoulder from where he now waited by the front door “yep I’m all set.”

There was a chuckle at that comment but she didn’t have a reply, instead getting everything together so that they could finally leave the apartment, grabbing a light coat and her purse from an armchair in his room before waiting by the door frame for him. “I was thinking of shopping on 5th Ave? That sound good to you?” she asked Evan as she took his arm so that they could start off to the elevator.

Hearing Liz’s small voice behind him Jac made a swift decision to leave research until later, closing the tab he got up turning immediately to face her hands raising gently to hold her head as he brought her in to press a soft kiss to her head. “You don’t need to, we still have each other - that’s what counts in the end.”

As he rose to stand up, she shuffled a bit back but only to return gently as she felt him touch her head, trying to blink away the tears that were starting to form. Liz loved Jac and as long as she had him it was true, she’d be fine. But didn’t he remember how their family had been like? Didn’t he wish that their father cared enough about them to tell them about shit like this. “I guess. It just sucks Jac. It all sucks.”

Max: That sounds great to me, fancy grabbing something to eat beforehand?

Liz: Maybe just something simple. I'm a sucker for overpriced movie theater popcorn, tbh.

“Well, i can respect and understand that.” Sirius said with a nod. He tilted his head, worried about her. He shrugged it off again, the best he could do. He didn’t want to push for information with Liz in this state, mostly because he was in a similar one, just… less prickly than his french companion. 

“If it makes you sick - then why aren’t we drinking to get ourselves positively shredded? I could use a good Blackout.” He said flicking his second cigarette over the edge, not caring anymore. He fiddled with his hair, putting it back into a bun on top of his head so it would be out of his face. 

“We can head over to our favorite bar, or hit up the liquor store and either pick fancy shit or get blitzed off cheap shit because we  feel like shit.” he suggested.

“Because, being alone, I thought it was probably best not to get blacked out drunk when I needed to make it home... or somewhere.” The last thing she needed was Evan coming across her at closing and getting angry at her. Or worse send her a look of pity. “That’s what happens when you don’t pick up your fucking phone.”

At his suggestion though, she gave a little huff, looked around particularly back through the open door to the club and gave a shrug, pushed herself off of the wall and grabbed Sirius to pull him up to his feet. “Liquor store, whatever shit we can find, your place. I have a tiny Herbert at mine and she doesn’t like drunks too much. I want to not be able to move by the end of tonight.”

Sirius put his cigarette out as it climbed up to the faded yellow portion that marked where the filter was. He flicked the useless butt over the side of the patio, and began to pull out another one. When it rained, it poured, as it was with Sirius and cigarettes. 

“I’ll tell you why i’m fucked, if you tell me why you’re fucked. Besides this being Evan’s club - and shit.” he responded, looking over at her.

If it wasn’t her last cigarette, Liz wouldn’t be savoring it like she was, usually one who went through one fast, wanting that saving grace from the twitch that would start up in her fingers when her mind starting going too fast and she started to worry about too much. And unlike people liked to believe, Liz Queen had much and more to worry about.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” It was sharp, like a knife with an edge of mean, how she sometimes got. It was weird not to touch Sirius, she remembered how just the other day, when she had called him how nice it would be just to curl up next to him. Especially since between finals and Emma she hadn’t seen Jason for too many days. 

Folding her arms against her chest and looking down though, she seemed to shrink a little, chewing her lip. “I don’t wanna talk about it. I don’t even want to think about it, Sirius. It makes me sick.” It made her want to run, that constriction in her chest wrapping tighter like a boa and it took effort not to push off the wall and walk away.

“Probably during conception - but then again, that depends on the type of fucked you mean.” Sirius said with a shrug, taking a deeper drag from his cigarette and watching the small glow eat up the paper surrounding the herbs and chemicals on the small tube. 

“Well, That’s a pleasant thought. Thank god you’re done, so you can actually have some time to yourself instead of y’know, a less direct route of suicide.” he said offhandedly. It seemed they bother were in foul moods on this night of nights. He groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose between the thumb and forefinger of his free hand. 

“Sorry about… y’know being MIA - i saw you tried to call. Shit came up…. I know it’s… not an excuse, but - you know how it can get.” he said, his voice getting a bit rough. He coughed to clear it, before sitting down on one of the chairs outside.

There was a light grunt of agreement on that fact; by the time her last final had come around, Liz hadn’t even wanted to take it, forced herself to take it of course, but that motivation after the fact had just been to go home and sleep until the next day. She had even missed her shift that night she had passed out so hard.

At his apology, she looked anywhere but him, mostly down at the cigarette that was burning slowly in her hand, sometimes flicking the ashed off with the lightest of gestures. “Not like I haven’t done it before,” she spat out. But she was different. She was allowed to do things like that; not other people. Liz had always done things like this, especially in the past couple of years and definitely within the past six months. “But yeah, I know.” Liz remained leaned against the wall, blue eyes gazing down at him. “Why are you fucked?”

“Oh god. You too?” Sirius kind of smirked. 

He took his own cigarettes out and took a drag. He and Evan Rosier never got along. Not by a long shot - but Sirius would be damned if Rosier didn’t have one of the swankiest clubs in all of New York. He hadn’t expected to run into Liz, but yet, here the were. 

“What’s eatin’ you?” he asked, taking another drag. He’d just gotten back into the city from the Hampton, and after roaming around for a few days by the beach. He hadn’t eaten much, and quite frankly hadn’t felt like it. Eating never solved emotional problems, so Sirius would sometimes get it into his head that why would it fix the physical ones?

“When has my life not been fucked, Siri?” Liz asked, cracking an eye open to look at him before closing it and giving another sigh. She had tried to get a hold of him earlier that week and he hadn’t answered. There was a part of her that was still irritated at that.

“Other than the fact that I’m at my exe’s club while he’s certainly fucking someone upstairs in his swanky penthouse?” It was bitter and biting and definitely not the only thing she was angry about tonight but it was enough. She still wasn’t sure of how many people she wanted knowing about her father’s new... toy? Girlfriend? What the fuck even was this lady? “The only not fucked part is that finals are finally over and I can just be done with school for the summer.”

Why did she keep coming to this fucking club? Sure it was the best, one of the most fun in the city or at least that’s what all the critics were saying, and since it was always packed it allowed for some  chance encounters with dealers, pills and tabs that could make her forget that this was Evan’s club, with him standing on the balcony looking over everyone... looking past her.

Standing with her back against the wall on the back patio of the club, she took a long drag from her cigarette, her eyes closing as she held the smoke in her throat and stayed closed as she exhaled out. Nothing was truly making her feel better tonight. Not the drugs that Sirius and she had scored. Not the alcohol she had talked some boy into buying her. Not the pretty girls she had been dancing with. It all was just like people liked to tell her, a temporary fix to a deeper problem. But hell, most of them hadn’t experienced what Liz had in the first twenty-one years of her life.

Checking her phone again, she searched her inbox for some communications from her father; she had sent him literally everything, any form of communication he might actually answer to so that she and Jac could understand what the hell was happening with him. But again, there was nothing. It made her want to bash her head into the wall, honestly.

“Fuck my life.”

“I agree but if he’s going to be childish about it and not tell us then we’re going to have to be the bigger people.” Going back to scanning the news related to his search he pulled up a few speculative articles from French newspapers regarding their father and this new interest. “There are a few shots of them out together…” the man in the images was unfamiliar especially with that smile.

“I feel like I’m going to be sick,” she muttered quietly as she glanced at the pictures. Liz hadn’t seen their father that happy in years.. more than a decade even and it was both nice... and heartbreaking. It made her stomach roll. Clenching her hands and shutting her eyes, Liz leaned forward to rest her face into Jac’s shoulder. “I can’t look at it anymore, Jac-Jac.”

As Liz drew away from the kiss he briefly chased after her lips before relenting and letting her go to finish dressing.

“I know I do, but I like you au natural cherie” Evan’s fingers always found ways to play with her hair even if it was simple methods such as he was utilising now. Allowing his fingers to curl around her shoulder softly he smiled, pressing a couple of kisses into the crook of her neck. “We should probably leave before I end up keeping you in here all day. Hm?”

“Drool and all?” she asked playfully and with a small chuckle and then sigh as he started planting kisses to her neck. It made her tingle slightly but also just made her feel safe and at home, like only so many people could do for her. “Yes, we.. we definitely need to do that because if not I’d willingly stay here, right here with you.” Liz pulled away from him reluctantly to put on her shoes that she had left with the rest of her things. “You ready to go?”

His hand automatically curled around her waist as she came close to him returning the kiss contently - a natural response now to draw her in and savour each moment of her presence. They were in no sort of rush today which was a rare occurrence for them both and he was willing to take all the time with her he could find.

Between the time it took her to disrobe and change he quirked a brow in appreciation prior to stepping up behind where she was viewing herself in the mirror. “I don’t know, I like your hair when it’s like this” he commented lightly twirling a ringlet with his fingers until they fell resting softly on her shoulder.

Pulling away from him wasn’t something that Liz wanted to do, but she knew that if she didn’t she’d get too caught up in him, caught up in the kiss and where they did have time for that she also felt like she really should be getting dressed. So after letting the kiss linger, she pulled away, flashing a little smirk at Evan as she went along.

“You always say that.” And it still always made Liz smile, indicative of the way the soft grin spread across her face as she watched them through the mirror, watching his finger twirl through her hair as her own hands raised up to fluff it a little, knowing that even if she wanted to straighten it there was no telling if it would actually work today. Her hair was awful like that sometimes. As his hands came to rest on her shoulders she leaned back into his hold closing her eyes and giving a small sigh. “Je t’aime.”

The response was rather harsh but it didn’t come as a very huge surprise, maybe this was a step to Liz seeing the situation as he had ever since their mother’s passing. “I doubt there’s much we could do… If he hasn’t told us about them then he doesn’t want us involved and… frankly it doesn’t change our positions. I know it feels wrong but… If this is what he’s choosing to do I doubt there’s anything we can do to change it. I’m sorry Lizzie.”

“But he should want us involved, we’re his children, Jac! He should at least tell us when he’s moving on. When he’s getting with someone else. I mean I know it’s not like we’re kids anymore and she won’t really be anything to us, but... we should at least have been properly told.” She peeked over at the computer over his shoulder. “Found anything yet?”
