Interesting.
â¸: Name three things your muse considers themselves to be very good at, and three things they consider themselves to be very bad at.
Send a Symbol, Get a Headcanon || @kaaras-adaar
The Good: 1: Reading. It was difficult at the start, since he couldnât really remember how to read much from his time before slavery, but he learned from what he could pick up in the dead of night in the manor and with some other elvesâ help.
2: Lerith knows heâs good with animals. Especially horses, having dealt with them quite a bit. After all, you donât need sign language all that much to communicate with one, and they donât try to hurt you if you make a small mistake. And hay is sometimes nice to sleep in.
3. Heâs eventually good at potions. Itâs one of those things from like, the start point of the game up to the Corypheus ending where he learns everything and he succeeds at it with flying colors. Heâs very good with plants and starts to keep some in his room/office.
The Bad
1: My gods this boy cannot write pretty AT ALL. His writing is absolutely atrocious, since he learned how to do it mostly by himself and imitating the words in the book. But itâs just... awful and itâs probably a good motivator for people to want to learn sign language.
2: Heâs terrible at asking for things sometimes? With the slave mindset, Lerith often thinks if he wants something, itâs easier to snatch it (or as much as he can in the case of food) and leave rather than ask if he can have something. Now, he generally does leave things on people alone. Food, however, is almost fair game.
3. Heâs bad about wanting to be in the action. If he is close, close friends with the Inquisitor, heâll want to go to help out with he can, whether with his potions or his slingstaff. Usually he ends up being in the way more than anything, but he tries and eventually matures enough to know itâs okay to stay behind. He doesnât realize this until later though and goes âshit, that was bad. fuck.â

  Farrin stood there while Kosmo and Lerith spoke silently. He wasnât bothered as much as he felt left out. He came here to go the garden not to stand and watch some other people talk. He read what Lerith wrote for him. âI donât mean to sound like an untuned piano or anything, but Iâm already learning another language. I donât think⌠I could learn⌠another.â Farrin trailed off and shrugged. He looked to Kosmo who was looking somewhat put off by what he said. Though he remembered what it was like to be ten. He had a good reason.
   âIâm gonna go find dad. Iâll see you later,â Farrin waved and retreat into the gardens.
  Kosmo turned back to Lerith. He signed with less energy than before. [Sorry about him, he gets anxious around strangers. He is learning another language. I will try at a different time when things are moreâŚ] his hands pause to think of a word, [âŚstable.]

Lerith felt bad that Farrin felt left out but there was nothing to do unless he somehow magically could talk again, or one of them learned how to read or sign. Suddenly realizing his actions couldâve been viewed as selfish, the mute wanted to apologize. Except Farrin was already excusing himself and leaving the garden.
Lerithâs heart sank with the retreating figure before looking to Kosmo. His own anxiety was simmering, ready to boil and move his legs but he steeled then. This was the first person he had met that could sign with him. The elf wasnât going to leave. [Things are unstable for you? Skyhold might help with that.]

@thequiethealer from X
Seeing Lertih like this conflicted him. He was sad for Lerith, empathetic of his feelings. At the same time he was furious with the soldiers for making fun of something that Lerith had no control ofâŚfor making fun of him at all. He wanted to march right up to the those soldiers and set them all straight. He could after all, he was the Inquisitor.
However, something else inside of him past that paternal anger told him to wait until his emotions had simmered down. There was no way that shouting at those soldiers and throwing his weight around was going to help anyone.
But he would be addressing this. This was not going to slide by unnoticed. He was not happy, those soldiers were not off the hook. Not in the slightest.
For now however, he decided to focus his energy on Lerith, he needed it the most.
The first bit of that was finding the right words to say. He didnât want to put his foot in his mouth and say something inconsiderate. He knew how frustrating it was for Lerith that so many people, him included, he asked Fall to teach him but he still wasnât fluent enough to have a conversation just yet. He almost felt terrible speaking after what happened, as if he was rubbing his voice in. He wasnât of course but it still felt somewhatâŚwrong?
What he was going to do could either blow or go well, Lerith might become angry or appreciate the attempt. But he wanted to talk to Lerith in a way that made Lerith feel like a person and not a freak.
Taking in a deep breath Pelle lifted his hands and attempted as best he could to sign to Lerith.
âI am sorry.â Was how he decided to start.
âThe world is cruel to things it does not understand.â He continued.
He wasnât sure if any of the gestures he was making were even right, was he even communicating what he wanted? All he could do was try, for the words he didnât knowâŚhe tried to create a mental image as best as he could.
âPeople should tryâ he attempted to sign. âBut they are stubborn and quick to single others out. It is sad.â
@pelle-lavellan
If anything, Pelle throwing around orders as Inquisitor to help one elf might make the situation worse, ratting him out as a snitch or something. That was the last thing he wanted when he was trying to find acceptance within the sanctuary of Skyhold. It was one of the most difficult challenges he faced, though he had to give credit to those like Pelle who were sympathetic to a mute elf dressed up as a Dalish that knew nothing of the culture.
Sitting back on his heels with hay sticking to his clothes (and how it got into his hair weâll never know), Lerith watched the other elf sign clumsily to him. The gestures cooled his temper significantly since he had to follow along with slight difficulty. Some signs werenât right but miming and others didnât mean what the Inquisitor probably thought they did.
Watching the other elf work so hard to communicate, the foolishness of the way he looked⌠Lerith started laughing. It was wheezy, like a squeaker toy without the squeaking apparatus, but definitely laughter all the same. Usually something like this wouldnât set off his amusement, but just the absolute ridiculousness of itâŚ
[I should not laugh], Lerith signed back shakily. [I am sorry, but some of those signs did not work.]
Valentine?
kaaras-adaar:
Taking a seat on the ground may have looked off for someone with the title of Inquisitor, and for someone of Kaarasâ size. He was short for his kind, yes, but he was still taller than most humans, and definitely most elves. In comparison, it must have looked amusing for any onlookers.Â
At the sign, Kaaras read it before he mimicked the manâs motions to say âperfectâ back in response with a slight chuckle. Heâd never get it down pat on a first go, but he was trying, and that mattered.Â
As Lerith asked if he performed any kind of rituals, Kaaras shook his head. Perhaps, when he was younger he had. His mother and father had raised him to be devout Andrastian. Every night before bed, he would pray to the Maker, and sometimes before dinner, he would say his thanks. But heâd grown out of that when his father had died, and his mother had certainly never pressed it upon him ever since.Â
âIf youâd like a moment, then be my guest,â he gestured with a soft smile. He didnât mention his past to the other man, though. He was sure Lerith didnât need to hear of his faith being shattered, and where his confusion stood now, especially as Inquisitor and Herald.Â
Oh, he still believed in the Maker, but he also believed in having faith in ones self, and perhaps the many other gods that might be out there, too. He didnât know anymore⌠What he did know, was that this wasnât the time or place to talk of such things.
@kaaras-adaarâ
Sitting on the ground was okay in Lerithâs book. Granted, the elf didnât mind being dirty since he was usually kept scoured clean as a slave in Tevinter. The magister had liked his slaves to be pleasing to the eye after all. Making himself comfortable, he watched Kaaras for the answer and then nodded. The Inquisitor didnât seem like a foolish religious person then.
He gently scratched an itch away on his tattooed face before offering some of the food to the other. [Good hear,] came the simple sign. The journal was pulled back to write more lengthy thoughts. âIâve seen some people do⌠prayer? I think before they eat. That just makes it go cold.â Where Kaaras thought it wasnât a good time and place for the topic, Lerith didnât have that same filter. âThat lady with the tall hat here keeps trying to get me to pray to fix what ails me.â
Until the one universal sign tipped her off that he wasnât interested. Granted, that had been a very bad day for the mute and he was in no mood to write down every little thing to talk to someone.

  Eon laid there and tried to clear his mind. He was always thinking negative. Perhaps thinking about nothing would be nice for a change. He relaxed while Lerith continued to work on his leg. When the potion was handed to him, he didnât hesitate for a second to grab it and drink it. It tasted sweet. The kind of natural sweet like from strawberries. But it had a bitter aftertaste that stayed on Eonâs tongue. Though he didnât mind this.
  The qunari closed his eyes for a time to rest a bit. He relaxed his muscles and let Lerith work. Every so often he would glance at the closed door to his balcony and to Lerithâs working hands. After some time of not paying attention toâŚÂ anythingâ Eon gave his attention to Lerithâs journal.
   âWell, people did try to help. I wouldnât say it to their face but it just wasnât enough. Iâm glad that some did try to help but thousands outweigh only two. But then you could make the argument that I was selfish for what I did. If I had died, the tears in the Veil would only get worse.â Eon sighed, shaking his head and looking away. He looked back after a moment. âIt feels fine now. Still a little sore but thatâs how it is. But what about you? Have your problems ever gotten solved?â
@secretsandhushedwhispersâ
The mute wasnât going to be one that judged Eon for his darker thoughts. Lerith had them often himself. Thoughts that he wasnât supposed to be here, or that heâd be anything more than just another slave elf because eventually the slavers would catch up to him. It was only a matter of time after all. Taking the empty potion bottle to clean out later, he sat in his silence and let Eon rest in it as well.
After all, here he was sitting in the Inquisitorâs lavish suite, the fire burned low and the steady sound of someone breathing. The bedding was soft and silky, the floor covered in an ornate rug, the desk filled with missives, the shelves stuffed with books. It almost made him wish to be the Inquisitor.
A slow look over at the Inquisitor as the man spoke, then he looked away at the question. No, his problems would never be solved. But really, why tell Eon? The man had enough problems to deal with. Well⌠there was perhaps one way to tell him. One again the journal was taken up. âMy only problem is communication. I know how to speak with my hands but it is not common, so I have to write my thoughts and responses I want to share.â
