Armie Hammer in Free Fire (2016)
journalistiq.
âgo ahead and assume, moss. itâs yours, too.â she doesnât get when people keep this stuff to themselves. sheâd much rather go into it with her husband. god knows sheâd freak out in a hospital room on her own. âbut i do need to ask you something.â
charlieâs follow-up yanks him into a memory of less pleasant times, when they were uncertain and untrusting and full of nothing but questions.
but theyâre in love now, right? theyâre good now, right?
     â --- yeah? â
journalistiq.
âYou just wanna keep me chubby so youâve got an excuse,â she says, setting a loving hand against the roundest part of his stomach as she tucks herself into his side. Heâs right, though â about a backup kid. Plus itâd be nice for Billie to have some company growing up, because God knows sheâs gonna feel lonely in this neighborhood if sheâs anything like her parents.
âI donât think sheâll be a serial killer.â Sheâs way too energetic a baby for that. Too happy. âMaybe an arsonist.â
â come on, itâs got nothing to do with me. â itâs a halfhearted attempt at a lie  ---  his tone gives him right away. and as if on cue, heâs holding his breath and sinking further into the couch to save himself the embarrassment of having an unconcealed and very soft tummy under her touch.
â i like your thinking. â he reaches up and tucks some of charlieâs hair behind her ear. â we could start a collection of baby criminals. our own little gang. â
journalistiq.
charlie pauses to frown in his direction, utterly confused. does he not realise that heâs got an open invitation to everything? âwell, someoneâs gotta look at the scan.â
â you know i donât like to assume. â even if heâs her ride. the pre-baby jitters are getting to him, a little bit; impeding his ability to think rationally. â i mean, iâd hate for you to do it alone --- â
â can i --- â oops! he doesnât want to sound overeager. ( but he is. ) â should i tag along for this appointment? â
@journalistiq.
thisisechambers 8 courses, 4 hours and endless love. Happy 30th to the perfect soulmate and most incredible humanâinside and out. đ
journalistiq.
âWeâve been gross, for sure.â But even through the stress, Charlie smiles into the kiss. Honestly, sheâs never felt more content with her life than she does right now, and she owes pretty much all of it to the guy beside her.
Leaning back and out of the way, Charlie strips off her puke-y shirt and uses the clean part of it to wipe the last of Billieâs lunch off of the side of her neck. âIâd be nervous in her shoes. I mean, sheâs spent nine months swimming about by herself, and now sheâs gotta deal with us. Poor kid.â
âKind of disturbing phrasing, but Iâll roll with it.â
He buttons Billie up the rest of the way, then leans down to pinch her tiny, chubby feet between his fingers and kiss her tiny, chubby toes. The kidâll be spoiled rotten before she speaks her first word.
âWhatâa you say we let the little one nap it off? You and I get washed up  ---  five minutes? We can take the baby monitor with us.â
journalistiq.
âIâll get chunky again,â she says, even though sheâs made no effort at all to lose the baby weight yet. If sheâs being honest, she figured theyâd be having this conversation soon enough anyway â and why lose the weight just to put it back on? And so she smiles at him, all grateful and content and so in love, and sighs her heaviest sigh like itâs a burden. âFine, I guess. If we really have to.â
âYou know Iâm a fan.â Of âchunkyâ Charlie, that is. She looks happy, healthy, and sheâs never better to cuddle up to. Moss, on the other hand, winds up sucking in and wearing baggy clothes to avoid having to reference couvade syndrome before the end of every goddamn conversation. ( Almost always in vain. He was showing first, last time around. )
âWe need at least one backup kid, you know? Just in case Billie turns out to be  ---  like, a serial killer, or something.â
âLetâs have another one,â he says, Billie out cold in his lap. He has to offset the sincerity, the âIâm so in love with youâ dripping from each word, so he follows it up with an almost-joke, gentle delivery. âDidnât realize how heavily I was leaning on that âsympathy weightâ excuse.â
@journalistiq.
howlâs moving castle sentence meme.
â Â looks like a little mouse lost its way. Â â
â Â leave me alone. Â â
â Â where to? iâll be your escort. Â â
â Â donât get alarmed, but iâm being followed. act normal. Â â
â Â sorry, looks like youâre involved. Â â
â Â are you listening? Â â
â Â i want to know what you want. Â â
â Â itâs your life â do something for yourself for once. Â â
â Â you sound ghastly! like some ninety year old woman! Â â
â Â make up your mind! are you gonna let me in or not? Â â
â Â just keep quiet and donât cause any trouble. Â â
â Â iâm not taking any orders from you! â
â Â so, what do you have hidden in your pocket? Â â
â Â that canât be good for the table. Â â
â Â please â help â falling â iâm falling â Â â
â Â you okay? Â â
â Â no â iâve seen all that i can take. Â â
â Â i give up. i see no point in living if i canât be beautiful. Â â
â Â i canât stand how scared i am. Â â
â Â donât worry, iâll follow behind you in disguise. Â â
â Â why do i feel like this isnât going to work? Â â
â Â wait â help â i canât make it â Â â
â Â pull yourself together. isnât this what youâve been waiting for? Â â
â Â what on earth happened to you? Â â
â Â whatever you do, donât look down. Â â
â Â you saved me. i was in big trouble back there. Â â
â Â donât try to be cute â iâm still not going to trust you. Â â
â Â i missed you. Â â
â Â go away. Â â
â Â youâre too late. Â â
â Â this isnât going to be easy. Â â
â Â i said move. Â â
â Â itâs a present for you. Â â
â Â i feel so at home. Â â
â Â so, you are going away. Â â Â
â Â uh-oh, here they come. Â â Â
â Â no, donât let go! Â â Â
â Â iâm too old to be treated like this! Â â Â
â Â strapping young men are so difficult to deal with. Â â Â
â Â youâll forgive me, wonât you? Â â Â
â Â weâre a family now! Â â Â
â Â iâm sorry, i shouldâve gotten here sooner. Â â Â
â Â i donât care if youâre a monster! Â â Â
â Â iâve had enough of running away. Â â Â
â Â and now, iâve got something i want to protect. Â â Â
â Â thereâs no time to lose, we have to try something! Â â Â
â Â i donât know whatâs gonna happen, but iâm sure it canât be good. â Â
â Â told you we shouldâve stayed put. â Â
â Â they say that the best blaze brightest when circumstances are at their worst. Â â Â
(distressed wheezing)
â Â i just canât seem to stop crying. Â â Â
â Â i didnât mean to make you wait this long. Â â Â
â Â donât look at me, i donât have it. i donât know what youâre talking about. Â â Â
â Â youâd better take good care of it. Â â Â
â Â i feel terrible.. like thereâs a weight on my chest. Â â Â
â Â a heartâs a heavy burden. Â â
â Â one thing you can always count on is that hearts change. Â â Â
journalistiq.
Theyâve been lucky. Luckier than most people in their situation â than most people in the world. Of all the billions, how many people actually come across a soulmate? Itâs insane.
âGood,â she says, stepping in closer. âCouldnât really be a power couple if you didnât, right?â
â --- This took a turn,â he says, after heâs laughed at her latest comment and stolen a kiss. Heâs careful not to tighten his grip on Charlieâs injured hand in the process.
âI thought we were hating on the neighbors. This feels pretty lovey-fuckinâ-dovey to me.â He smiles again. âWhere did we go wrong?â
journalistiq.
Despite the fact that sheâs never in her life been nervous about anything, Charlie is really fucking scared about being a mother. Thereâs certain things that just terrify her â like leaving Billie to sleep alone, or changing her diaper on one of those high-up table things. She wonders if itâll always be like this, or if week one is the same for everybody.
Sheâs kneeling on the carpet with a grizzling Billie in front of her, taking off the kidâs third spit-up covered onesie of the morning, when she hears Moss come in. âOh, hey,â she says, all casual, like she isnât about to have a vomit induced breakdown. âCan you grab me another shirt and something for Billie? We, uh⌠We had a bit of an accident. Again.â
     âWeâve been busy, huh?â
After heâs grabbed what they need, Moss kneels next to Charlie, places his hand on her back for balance, and leans in to give her a kiss ( disregarding that theyâre both disgusting ). Before he moves on to cleaning up, he canât help holding out an oversized index finger for Billie to grab. He smiles, toothy and enamored ( and a little bit tired! ), and starts to pull on her clean clothes.
âYou must be as nervous as we are, sea monkey.â
@journalistiq. Â â Â cont.
âNo, shh,â she says, because itâs all she can think to say right now.
Itâs strange. Of the two of them, heâs usually the one whoâs got his shit together. She has to rely on him for so much, and itâs always just him giving and her taking, but heâd always seemed strong enough for it. Now, she knows that nobodyâs made of fucking steel. She canât even believe sheâs been so insensitive as to not worry about him at all.
Charlie kneels down in front of him, tucking her hair behind her ears before she puts her hands on his knees . He can hold them, if he wants. She just needs Moss to know that sheâs there for him.
âWhatâs wrong, honey? Can you breathe a little slower for me? Can you tell me what happened?â
He doesnât know how to communicate that he canât talk beyond his initial statement without  ---  talking, so Moss waves a shaky hand off to his side, forgetting for the moment that Charlie canât see it. He corrects himself quickly by finding and squeezing her fingers, then retracting his own and working hard to internalize the whole thing.Â
Sheâs close, sheâs warm, sheâs anchoring him.
âI, uh --- â He swallows hard and starts again. âThe, uh. the neighborâs car.â It misfired. It misfired, you asshole, you can finish the fucking sentence. âFucking car.â
warmst.
â totally. â she doesnât even stop to think about how he might feel about it, how a comment like that could make him uncomfortable â well, thatâs not entirely true. she just doesnât think about it immediately. ( sheâs still poking at him, hoping to dig out a grander reaction than a ducked gaze. a laugh, maybe. )
â youâre just like my boyfriend, â she amends. â itâs cute. â
Summer gets the laugh sheâs hoping for, only to have it replaced seconds later with a comically deep frown.
âIâm âjust likeâ your 50 year old boyfriend? Iâm 32, Summer, I shouldnât have the body of a 50 year old recovering alcoholic.â
âI started to feel a little dizzy, apparently a full-scale panic attack on the way. I sat down on the cool tile floor in my big towel and put my head between my knees. I prayed he wouldnât decide to come look for me before I could pull myself together. I could imagine what he would think if he saw me going to pieces this way. It wouldnât be hard for him to convince himself that we were making a mistake.â -Bella Cullen, Breaking Dawn
journalistiq.
Is he smiling, too?
Charlie lets out a little laugh that very quickly turns into hysterics as she thinks about how much Candice had screamed about it. Itâs the fact that she tried to hit back, too, and fucking missed. How shitty has your aim gotta be for a blind person to be able to dodge it?
âThanks. I loved it too. IâŚâ she says, and thereâs a pause before she speaks again. Itâs her trying to get her breath back. âI love you.â
His smile goes soft in a second. Thatâs a group of words heâll never tire of hearing  ---  or doling out, for that matter. He hasnât encountered a lot of people worthy of that kind of sentiment.
âHey,â he starts, playing like heâs just realized the feelingâs mutual. âI love you, too.â
