hi i am trying to bring attention to ahmed mahmoud's gfm campaign. he and his wife and four children have been displaced repeatedly and live out of a tent after losing their home. they are trying to raise money for necessities, especially for their kids. their campaign has been slow to get donations and right now they sit at only 3k out of their 20k goal

i honestly don't really understand why "some people prefer watching gameplay online rather than playing games themselves" is treated as such a taboo when being a spectator is considered a pretty mundane way to engage with most sports, game shows, reality tv or even just like. chess.

like the usual arguments are "not everyone can afford video games or have the software to pirate" or "you can be a fan of a game's story, but not it's gameplay" but also some people just have more fun watching other people be really good at starcraft or speedrun super mario 64, i don't think that's a particularly out of the box way to engage with the medium.

every now n then i think about how native americans as human beings just dont exist in like 99% of mainstream media. in movies or tv shows or books or video games or you know even in porn like we just arent people. when theres a native character theyre like a wild west indian. like truly to ppl we all died back in the 1900s.

I like that the plot of Morrowind isn't hinged on a big event happening that demands immediate attention. Your orders are to report to the blades agent per the emperor, but who's checking? Fuck that guy. You're not thrust into the narrative by an assassination of the emperor or the return of dragons after a thousand years. You're running an errand that you may not care about. This goes hand in hand with the problems of Morrowind being dire but not immediately catastrophic; they've been festering, and they can do so longer before we may all be doomed.

If you ignore the dragons or the oblivion gates it's kinda hard to overlook that the problems don't escalate without your intervention. If you ignore the main quest in Morrowind things will continue to be really bad because they have been for a while, so it's easier to excuse the plot being ignorable. Whereas if you never tell Balgruuf that dragons are returning, no other dragons will ever appear, even if you wait a year's time or ten, Alduin will not resurrect a single dragon until or unless you have taken the steps to be able to handle it.

One thing I do just want to note—yes, creators of the source media all too frequently give Black and Brown characters scraps when it comes to content. But we would not have Rolan clocking in more works than Wyll if content quantity mattered most in who fandom engages with. Yes, sometimes creators make missteps when writing Black and Brown characters. But with many white characters fandom will hc around dips in writing quality, or meta about how it’s actually brilliant.

I have seen a lot of different fandoms. The medium and the creative team for the source material has varied widely. The way fandom dismisses Black and Brown characters as boring, or pillories them for the smallest slights, and then huffs about how terrible it is that their property would treat their characters of color this way—that has remained constant regardless of the character’s personality, significance, depth. Especially given how engaged properties are with their fans, I don’t think you can or should discuss erasure of Black and Brown characters without holding fandom accountable for creating racist communities, all off its own steam.

My take on a different version of the Two-Spirit flag! (Yes I am Two-Spirit myself) I didn't like the feathers just being slapped on top of the rainbow flag so I made the rainbow lighter and going a different direction because I still like the idea of a rainbow. I also took inspiration with the circles from Patrick Hunters Two-Spirit flag representing ancient indigenous artistic traditions. One version with and without the circles.
