@asakawareiko blizzard released a new short story (link to tweet) featuring ramattra, who was already kind of a trainwreck of a character being that hes the leader of an "omnic extremist group" which in the context of overwatch lore is A Choice You Can Make, but in the short story it asserts that ramattra left the shambali monastery and he has this to say about it:
Mondatta places the burden of peace on the oppressed and not their oppressors.
which, like, yeah, sure, okay. yeah. it IS true that the like, thesis statement of the shambali really kind of is that omnics can bring about peace with humans by being One Of The Good Ones, and not that... you know, humans just shouldnt be killing omnics in the first place. fine.
we also learn that ramattra was not a pre-omnic crisis omnic-- he was something called a Ravager, which was an omnic designed specifically by anubis to kill humans. and that ravagers were dicks to "regular" omnics who were not designed to kill humans.
so eventually over the course of the story, ramattra decides that humans will continue to treat omnics unfairly forever (evidenced by the fact that humans have historically treated omnics poorly and there has been no significant change to the treatment of omnics since the crisis) and has this to say about it:
“Do you know,” I muttered, “what humanity’s greatest crime is?”
Zera stared down at me, shaking her head.
“I’ve had enough,” she started, but I didn’t let her finish. I flipped back around to face her, the anger surging through me again.
“Complacency!” I shouted. “They desire peace above all, and so they ignore injustice because it is more comfortable to do so. They want to believe tomorrow will be better simply because they hope it will be. Humanity will never help us. They will try to sell us a small place in their world, or at best, ignore us. And they have passed their weaknesses to him.”
which is.... again, a Choice You Can Make, i guess.
and THEN a few paragraphs later he says:
“If omnics are choosing death,” I said carefully, “we must take that choice away. [...] we will find a way to save our people, whether they want it or not. Whether they deserve it or not. If they will not willingly join us, we will find a way to make them.”
