Challenge Readathon
Hello fellow readers!
This weekend I am holding/hosting my very own readathon, to try and catch up on my reading challenges and I am inviting everyone to join me! Of course you don't have to be doing any challenges to join us: everyone is welcome!
At challengereadathon.wordpress.com you can find all the info on the challenge, and the sign up sheet as well.
So far I have one person signed up, which is already one more than expected, but I would love it if more people joined me!
The hashtag for posting will be #ChallengeReadathon across all social media. I will mainly be posting on my Instagram MrsMusicAddict and if others join me, in the Goodreads Group as well.
If there are any questions, I'm more than happy to answer them; just hit me up!

#24in48 #HourNine HOUR 9: check in! . I finally started! I got 1 hour and 15 minutes under my belt so far! It’s sad how little I’ve actually read due to exhaustion, but at least I’m reading! . Also, @24in48, I’m waving from the future, at 3:10pm! 😜 #bookstagram #readathon #challenge #book #reading #bibliophile #bookworm #quote #jhumpalahiri #bookishquote
#24in48 #HourSix HOUR 6: Marvelous Opening Lines . First of all, if this ends up being a spoiler, imma blame the @24in48 hosts 😅 . The first line of the final installment in the #draconismemoria trilogy!
#24in48 #HourThree HOUR 3: check in ... It took me five minutes to turn off my alarm after snoozing it the first time. I finally got some sleep (two hours) even though my dream involved phobic things. And the readathon😅Clearly I’m invested 😂 . I’m off to bed again and hopefully in three hours (noon) (more like 2,5 now oops) I can get up and start reading!
#24in48 #HourZero HOUR 0 . It’s just gone 6am, I’ve been coughing my lungs out ever since I got to bed 3,5 hours ago and honestly am exhausted. . HOWEVER. The readathon has started! WAAAMM! . I’ve already filled out the surveys and am totally ready to get some more sleep (hopefully) before kicking off with a book! OR A FIC- I have gotten the greenlight from @24in48! I am so excited you guys. If you haven’t signed up yet, go do so now and join in on the fun! #bookstagram #bibliophile #bookworm #book #comics #blackpanther #readathon #reading
I need to find a way to post IG posts directly to this blog, but for now this will have to do!
(I mean it’s 6:40am and honestly reposting my post on here is not on my want-to-do-list 😅)

If you are interested in taking part, please comment ‘IN’ below and I'll send you all the details!
(Honestly guys this seems like so much fun, join in!)
Do y'all remember being a kid and trying to read in the car while it was dark outside and your parents wouldn’t let you turn on the light so you would try to grab snatches of sentences when you passed by street lights

First Impressions: A Contemporary Retelling of Pride and Prejudice - Debra White Smith
I was given a review copy in turn for an honest review
My first impression of this book was excitement. Seeing the synopsis had me really looking forward to read this book, as it sounded right up my alley, even if I hadn't read Pride and Prejudice yet.
My second impression was complete disappointment. This book should not be allowed to be called a contemporary retelling, as there is nothing contemporary about the thoughts, actions, and beliefs of these characters. Having money and marriage be the only important thing may have worked in the original time period, it doesn't in 2018. The sexism and misogyny in this book is also completely unnecessary, and frankly, it's disgusting. Throwing in cars, cellphones, and a woman being a lawyer isn't enough to make this feel modern. It truly felt as if I was reading something Victorian. And not in a good way.
It was a struggle to get through. Every time I thought I might be starting to enjoy it, some lines were thrown my way that made me want to yell in frustration.
The only plus side of this book, was the relationship between Jenny and Calvin, and their individual characters. They were the only healthy and good thing about the whole story, everyone else was problematic and terrible. For them, I'd add half a star, but Goodreads doesn't allow half stars, so we're still stuck on 1 as this book doesn't deserve a second one.
I also really loved the proposal at the end, but I'd wished we had gotten there in a different way. A modern way. A contemporary way.
I know there will be lots of people out there, however, who will love this book. I'm aware not everyone feels the same way, that not everyone is bothered as much by the issues I have with this book. The book is also perfect light reading, so if this is someone's thing, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to them, though I'd warn them of the problematic content.
Such a shame. I really wanted to love this, but I just couldn't. 1,5/5*
I haven’t been around for a while, but keep an eye out for the reviews of the books I read while I was gone!

Call Me By Your Name - André Aciman
“I stopped for a second. If you remember everything, I wanted to say, and if you are really like me, then before you leave tomorrow, or when you’re just ready to shut the door of the taxi and have already said goodbye to everyone else and there’s not a thing left to say in this life, then, just this once, turn to me, even in jest, or as an afterthought, which would have meant everything to me when we were together, and, as you did back then, look me in the face, hold my gaze, and call me by your name.”
This book was a rollercoaster. I found the first part to be quite slow, but after that it just took off and I got sucked in. It had some weird ass parts here and there (I'll never look at peaches the same way ever again), but let's face it, the above quote makes up for all of them. This book is so beautifully written, and while I have to admit it took me some time to get used to the style, involving me going back several times to reread a sentence or two to make sure I got it right, it just flows smoothly, beautifully.
I had trouble focusing, as I was reading the ebook, on my laptop, so I downloaded the audiobook, narrated by Armie Hammer, who plays Oliver in the movie (which I haven't seen yet, but can't wait for even less now), to read along with. I can't say I would have been able to get through it this fast, or at all, without it, but honestly.. this audiobook has been recommended to me by so many of my friends, to start with, give audiobooks a try, so I had high hopes, but instead I didn't think it was all that good at all. Maybe audiobooks just aren't for me, but his inflection seemed off most of the time, and there was no way to discern who was talking, or if anyone was talking at all. Not to mention the changes between the audio and the ebook, though I only noticed because I was reading along of course. He does have a really nice voice, though.
I was quite scared of this book. So many had told me how much they loved it, the movie is nominated for best picture at the Oscars, but there are also people who are firmly against this book due to the to them abusive relationship, because of their age difference, so I was scared to find myself on their side after having defended the people who love this book and story. All I could think while reading the book, though, was that Elio is the more manipulative and messed up of the two of them. This book is from his POV, and I have to admit that at times I was seriously questioning his sanity, and Aciman's in turn. But, having him not be perfect is what really drew me to him. I had a bit of a harder time warming to Oliver, but I think that was quite the idea. I wouldn't say this is an abusive story, though, I have to admit that there are parts that screamed a bit dubcon to me. I'm not normally someone who wants to reread the same story from a different POV, but I have to admit I'd love to read this story from Oliver's view, to see how he experienced everything.
The ending is very bittersweet, and the last passage (which I'd read before, the only context the ship it had been connected to) just made me cry. So beautiful, yet so heartbreaking. You can't help but root for these two, to end up together, somehow. Be happy, in the lives they both wished they could have had.
I've only just now finished it, and I feel like I've missed so much, as if whole parts have slipped through my fingers, not properly taken in. I can't fully grasp this book, except for the strong feeling that I really want to read it again. I have the feeling this will be a book I'll come back to over and over again, only to find new things each time, loving it a bit more with every time I read that final passage. And isn't that just the thing we all look for in a book?
This book was recommended to my by one of my best friends in the world: @metaphysicalmetaphors <3
