“She wasn’t listening,” Leo repeated, leaning back in his own chair and flashing a sardonic grin. Biting it back, he shoved a forkful of his dinner into his mouth, eager to see how the scene was going to play out. In truth, he had not really been enjoying himself all evening, and while Antonia was, at the very least, being drawn into the conversation, he was largely being kept out of it by design. That said, Leo likely had very little to contribute to it; he was not exactly known for his sparkling intellect. He took another bite. “Say, how do you jelly a truffle anyway?” And with that brilliant question, he seemed to have succeeded in shutting the table up, seemingly to his delight.
A small smirk curved her lips as the rest of the group struggled to recover from his comment. As the conversation started back up, Antonia looked over the man who had spoken up and averted any future interest anyone at the table might have had in speaking to them. “Glad I’m not the only one.” The woman remarked, taking a sip of her wine casually. “I think we might be the two outliers at this particular table.”
For the fourth time in twenty minutes, Antonia held back a sigh. She had ended up at the table at the event by chance, and had to wonder if whoever had coordinated the seating chart was just that oblivious or had personally set out to make her evening a living hell. “I wasn’t listening.” Antonia said plainly when someone tried to draw her into the conversation.
• Cool and level-headed, Malcom Lefarve would be best described by his children as stoic and serious. However, he would also be described as the more laid back of their two parents. That never helped much though, as he often responded with “ask your mother” when it came to any particular requests. Antonia wouldn’t consider herself overtly close to her father, but she occasionally goes to him for financial advice.
Charlotte Lefarve • 58 years old • Charity Organizer
• Demanding and detail oriented, Charlotte never went easy on any of the five Lefarve children. More often than not she was drilling them on etiquette and the like. She has a tendency to pick on some of the smallest of things, which Antonia always took in stride. They don’t have the best relationship, but they still see each other fairly often for brunch, so long as their respective busy schedules permit.
SIBLINGS
Conrad Lefarve • 34 years old • Stock Broker
• Almost definitely Antonia’s favorite sibling, Conrad is certainly the one she’s closest to. From planning his wedding to being the first he told about his engagement, (not to mention the one he took with when buying an engagement ring), they’re quite clearly two peas in a pod. However hiding her abusive relationship from him definitely took a tole on their friendship, they’re finally getting back to normal now that Gabriel is no longer a part of her life.
Beatrice Lefarve • 32 years old • Realtor
• Once close, Antonia and Beatrice and been on the outs for almost two years. They haven’t spoken to each other ever since Beatrice found Antonia after one of Gabriel’s worse nights, long before Toni was engaged to him. When She refused to leave Gabriel despite Beatrice’s insistence, the two stopped speaking. Even though she’s left Gabriel, the two have yet to make amends. She had to hear about her Beatrice’s Engagement through Conrad and has not been sent a save the date.
Samson Lefarve • 28 years old • Software Engineer / Start Up Owner
• With so many siblings, one of them was destined to be a shit head. That’s Samson. A pain in Antonia’s ass for as long as she can remember, the two do more bickering than anything. However, once or twice they’ve managers to align themselves to do some scheming of their own since they both of course attended the same high school, but also both attended Columbia University.
Margaux Lefarve • 25 years old • Socialite / “Accessory Designer”
• The youngest Lefarve sibling, and the flightiest, Margaux has gotten away with more than any of them. From barely getting through NYU to her string of unimpressive boyfriends, Antonia is far from approving of her little sister’s lifestyle. She hops aimlessly from one job to another, one scene to the next.
TRADITIONS
The Lefarves are much like any other upper class family native to manhattan. If they have any traditions its mostly silent dinners at restaurants or that have been catered. The one thing they did every summer without fail was summer in Nantucket instead of the Hamptons. Of course by the time any of the siblings were old enough to start going with their friends during the summer, that ended. They certainly aren’t an extremely close family. In fact they’re probably dangerously close to feuding whenever Malcom passes and it comes time to read his Will.
