Meet the Heroes!

Meet the heroes (though not the protagonists!) of The Labs! While they may be a ragtag, recently-met team, they all answered the call to stop Niles and Lucien in their tracks. The trio are all aware of them to some extent, though Niles has personally dubbed them his arch nemeses, as they tend to get in the way of his plans more than anyone.

Detective Casimir “Casey” Clarke (front)- Leader and brains of the team. Casimir is a practiced detective whose face is somehow constantly cloaked in shadow. He has a talent for formulating strategies on the fly, and his magic allows him to wield his hands as though they were guns. He enjoys smoking a good cigar over a book or a deep conversation, and has a soft spot for cats.

Sparrow (right)- Speedster and charisma of the team. Sparrow is a witty and talkative hero, whose magic allows them to fly and hover at lightning fast speeds. While they have a habit of making decisions before they have the chance to think them through, they can be relied upon to make a quick getaway. Sparrow loves a good meal with friends, as well as sporty activities, even if they have to suppress their speed to make it fair.

Remus Grimdark (left)- Brawn and backpack of the team. Remus Grimdark is never seen without his armor, and yet is surprisingly nimble on the front lines. His portal magic allows him to act as the heroes’ inventory, which is also useful to hold the massive sword he swings around like a toy. While he is quiet about his interests, he gets passionate about a good fight with a good opponent.

Philomena “Phi-Phi” Marguerite Amaranth (top)- Heart of the group. Phi-Phi believes that everything can be solved through conversation and friendship, and wishes to reform Niles and Lucien rather than defeat them. While her flying broom can be unwieldy and her potions don’t always work as intended, Phi-Phi always stands strong and is more than capable of pulling her weight on the team. She enjoys any moment with friends where she feels connected to them, and spends a lot of her time alone studying alchemy.

Expect brief introductions to the mods, the show, and the main trio under the cut!

The Labs is still in its conceptual stages, so if the masterpost has a major update, we will be sure to mention it here with the latest timestamp.

This account has four moderators, who make up the creators and main collaborators of The Labs.

So what is The Labs?

The Labs is a 2D indie animation project currently in conceptual development, following evil mad scientists and arch enemies Niles and Lucien (and their less mad, less evil scientist ally Valerie). While The Labs has an overarching plot that may get pretty serious, the show intends to share with it a strong focus on character development and silly “filler” shenanigans similar to the beloved shows of our childhoods. This is not to say that The Labs is a kids show; we intend for it to be "rated" around TV-14. Be prepared for swearing, violence, plenty of murder, possible disturbing imagery, occasional sensitive topics, schemes, and general hijinks. These are evil mad scientists, after all.

Sure, but what is it about?

The Labs centers around Lucien A. Blanche and Niles G. Tolliver, two scientists whose laboratories were unintentionally built within the same system of caves with nothing but a chasm of rushing water to separate them. Lucien is a refined, reserved man, preferring to go about his business tactfully to keep his tracks hidden as he makes plans to assassinate the leader of the nation. Niles is a brazen, eccentric man from another dimension with a penchant for dramatic public flair as he plans to make a name for himself, find some arch nemeses, and have a grand time doing whatever he pleases. The two are locked in a tense rivalry, constantly attempting to off each other so they can have some peace to work their chaos. The only thing they share, aside from their job descriptions, is an ally by the name of Dr. Valerie Dinkle: a much more friendly scientist who doesn’t seem to mind being friends with wanted criminals. Valerie is a respectable and upstanding woman with outstanding luck, who curiously appears to be the only marine biologist in existence. Together, the trio may discover a conspiracy a bit bigger than they’re prepared for… or Valerie will stand on the sidelines with her arms crossed as Niles and Lucien try to kill each other, again.

A bit more about the trio!

Niles Genious Tolliver: Niles is a dark elf from another dimension - one that he wasn't exactly fond of. Practicing galvanization and biomechanics in a world that hadn't progressed past the horse-drawn cart was something of a hassle. So, when he fell through a hole in reality and ended up in a strange new land, he jumped at the chance for a fresh start. Being a complete madman, Niles is highly unpredicatable, engaging in cartoonish and theatrical supervillainy of all sorts. However, there is one constant variable to his outrageous schemes: rats. Most would call it an obsession, but Niles would likely call it a "motif". To assist him in his evil plans, Niles has built a veritable army of half-mechanical rat creations: The Hierarchy. And he is far from finished. With the help of his Hierarchy and his loyal assistant Max (the first of his many rat creations), Niles aims to re-establish the notorious reputation that he carried in his home dimension - and, of course, have as much fun as possible in the process.

Lucien Amadeus Blanche: Lucien is naturally part spider, which isn’t as surprising as one might think. His genetics grant him unique abilities that include a natural immunity to all poisons- a wonder when you’re specializing in toxicology. His other main practice is the design and invention of mechanical spiders that move all on their own, linked up to an intelligent hivemind under his command. Lucien is a cunning and deceptive criminal, spying on and infiltrating the city of Ahnchorbury using his hivemind and assassinating the rich and high class via his uniquely developed poisons. His ultimate goal and obsession is to kill the man at the very top, Lord Sebastian Iversein- and make certain that His Lordship knows who was behind it all.

Dr. Valerie Dinkle: Valerie is a highly decorated scientist and the world’s leading (and only) marine biologist. Valerie is the child of a harfer and a leprechaun who loved her and nurtured her interests. She has always had an interest in anything aquatic, but there is little to no information available to expand upon. So she decided that she would be the one to explore and document the world’s oceans. Valerie worked for years to earn her doctorates in biology, engineering, and archeology to aid in her pursuits. Currently, Valerie works as a professor at the University of Ahnchorbury to fund her own underwater explorations. Her work has uncovered that there may once have been information on the subject and oceanic societies that has since been lost. Valerie is a hard headed, determined woman fighting for respect amongst her peers. While she feels that she is superior to most and never wrong, she holds opinions of her friends high. Once Valerie has her mind set on something, almost no force in the world can stop her. In her spare time, Valerie enjoys gardening, baking, reading, and practicing music. She loves warm weather, yellow, and a good cup of tea. She hates shoes, city life, and greed.

The last one is her in the oc that inspired her powers. Hero costume. I am thinking of changing it slightly to fit Kai better. 

The oc was totally not a self insert my hero academia character. 

Had not heard anything from the last player yet. But I find it so funny that all the boys so far have put her in cosplays and the girls actually styled her.
