I had a professor ask me to get a cup of coffee after class to talk about my career (I want to be in the same field he is). My boyf thinks it’s super weird but i dunno. Is this normal or a red flag?

Suuuuuper normal! Networking is a huge, often unspoken, requirement of advancing in academia. Picking the brain of someone who has the job you want is a smart thing to do. I did it when I was younger (still do sometimes), and now I’m starting to find myself on the other side - having my brain picked. I don’t know if I’d be where I am career-wise if I hadn’t followed my professors around annoying them into reading my papers or letting me co-author, and accepting similar coffee/lunch invitations. As much as I’d love to say the scholar world is about sheer talent and hard work, so much of it is based around who you know and who [above you in the hierarchy] will vouch for you. Take advantage of it.
