keeping close to home
One connection that stuck out to me throughout this short story was how Bell Hooks was adapting to a new environment because it wasn’t the same back at home. I can relate to this because I believe I will have the same impact with leaving the inner city to go to college and I see different races & religions. I know that it’s going to feel wierd because of what I’m use to seeing. Another connection was when she said her parents was difficult to talk to her parents because they always felt ambivalent. She said that they didn’t really support her going away for college .., This is relatable because my parents are not really happy that I’m going up state rather than to a community college or one near our home. They don’t trust that I will go up there and stay focus and do the right things I’m supposed to do.
