LOVE this idea, might do more with it
Akashi seijuro is so loved. From kuroko worrying about him to midorima having faith in him and always playing shogi with him to murasakibara helping him up and sticking by him to aomine reassuring him before the jabberwock match to kise who knows how reliable he is to momoi who thinks so highly of him to nijimura who treats him like a normal person to mibuchi who loves him unconditionally and cares for him to nebuya who picked out pickled gingers from his gyudon to hayama who is never reserved with his affection for him to mayuyu who understands him and can't say no to him to bokushi who loves him the most and will protect him to oreshi who loves him the most and will ensure he doesn't dissappear. AKASHI SEIJURO YOU ARE SOOO LOVED
That's the part that drives me crazy. The characters in the series DO care about him in their own ways. The problem is that nobody told him this to his face until high school, and so Akashi never knew he was loved until the very end. That's probably why he spiraled so hard but his recovery process was relatively smoother. Because people actually started being open about their care and concern to his face.
Oh, now that I'm talking about Akashi, I just remembered a thought I had not too long ago.
Akashi had been playing basketball since he was a super young kid (I would guesstimate around age 5 because that's how old he looked to me in his flashback), and yet, despite being in a basketball club throughout his elementary school years, we don't really hear of any friends he made during that time.
It's interesting because every other person in the Teiko gang who was super crazy about basketball from a really young age seemed to have friends in elementary school that they interacted with. Kuroko had Ogiwara, who literally motivated him to start basketball in the first place. Aomine and Momoi had each other and attended the same schools together all the way up to high school. But Akashi? We don't see any of that.
Could it possibly be that because his father had so much more of an influence on him back in elementary school, he wasn't able to play with kids his age outside of school/extracurricular hours? His mother already had to beg his father to let Akashi play basketball, so maybe the club hours he got to practice and play were the only hours he had, and whatever time he didn't spend with other kids was spent with his mother instead. When she passed away, I assume that he no longer had that anchor and sought out to ground himself in something else. Someone else. And that just happened to be the rest of the Teiko gang.
After pushing for his autonomy in middle school, Akashi could finally be able to interact with kids his age as much as he wanted and tailor his school experience to his preference (to an extent). This is why I believe that the Teiko gang were not just Akashi's closest friends, but his ONLY friends. This would explain why he was so desperate to keep them together when the team started falling apart. It wasn't just about their duty to the basketball team. It was also about him losing the only true friends he's ever had, and losing them would mean going back to square one after already losing so much.
It's crazy to think about how alone Akashi truly felt and why that drove him to extreme lengths. Especially when you remember that on top of all of this, he was expected to be perfect and never complain about his circumstances. I say this all the time, but it truly is no wonder why he snapped the way he did.
Been having this thought pop in and out of my head for a while, but I was thinking about how Murasakibara was the first one to degrade Akashi when he was losing the 1-on-1 back in Teiko, but when Akashi falls to the ground after getting crossed by Nash during the Jabberwock vs Vorpal Swords match, Murasakibara was the first one to reach out to him and help him stand back up. In this essay I will—
Does anyone else feel the need to see akashi get genuinely angry for himself. Like he's way too accepting of the way he's been treated since day one.
Something that PISSES me off so bad is when people say "it's not that serious" when referring to akashi.
Imagine yourself in his shoes. Imagine being told since the day you were born that your worth hinged on victory. Imagine being told that the only way anybody would ever love you is if you continued to be victorious. Imagine believing that your(first ever)friends only stayed with you because they thought you were stronger. Imagine being so frightened that they'd abandon you if you didn't prove your worth. And(in bokusei's case specifically) imagine your entire existence depending on victory. Imagine victory being so detrimental to your existence that losing would make it lose meaning. Imagine disappearing if you ever lost.
It really is that serious I'm afraid.
everyone is a minority in rakuzan. good for them
This scene and this screencap specifically punches me right in the gut because its so???
Like this is not a normal "Oh shit I missed the basket", face. He looks scared, terrified, even.
Thinking about this scene. Can you imagine the GoM going out and getting ice cream while akashi, who has just been made captain(like a day ago), now having the weight of the entire basketball club(and everything else) on his shoulders, alone, reviewing momoi's HUGE stack of data. Then going back home all alone and doing the rest of his work.
The teiko matches are actually so funny because the coaches don't do shit😭😭😭😭
If the GoM are ever struggling in a match they're just like "nah its fine akashi has a plan." IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME.
And the thing is akashi does indeed have a plan and it works 100% of the time.
THEY LOOK SO HAPPY TO SEE HIM😭😭😭😭😭😭
That's their akashi seijuro guys they dgaf which one it is. That's THEIR akashi.
canon akashi
Can we please talk about how, in the novelisation, Akashi states that he believes he doesn't deserve to go to Heaven? Since he was 10. Years. Old?
Now we get why he always ignores when people compliment his kindness. He doesn't even think he's kind. He's always been so selfless, yet he never knows that.
