The letters of a sentimental minimalist, day three: Taming of the Shoes
Shoes. The cant live with ‘em, can't live without ‘em kinda product that takes up a lot of space but really have no use besides carrying our feet around for the whole day. Sure, we say we need all these pairs, but do we really? What if we only had(gasp!) nine pairs of shoes? well, part of becoming a minimalist is finding the balance with a ‘less is more’ kinda attitude.
I've decided that part of my journey to becoming a minimalist is starting what is called a capsule wardrobe. Now you don't have to do this, but I want to, as this is my own version of minimalism. And while we're on this topic, I'm going to branch out a little and kind of go into what I mean by ‘my own version’.
Let's use the analogy of a seed. This seed will be our minimalism tree. now, on the day we plant our minimalism tree and decide to step into the world of minimalism, our seed grows one little root. Then, as I am doing, say we decide to do a capsule wardrobe. That produces another branching root on our seed. Slowly, as we go along this path, our seed grows into a shoot, which grows tall until it sprouts a branch, and then that branch spreads until were becoming a full-grown tree of minimalism. this tree symbolizes what we become when we go full-on minimalist. Our tree is beautiful, yet simple, like a well-trimmed and trained tree.in our minimalist grove, we are all different, depending on the track we've taken and how our roots have spread. This is what true minimalism is. Finding your own roots, and spreading them how you're comfortable. Now that I've just ‘branched’ out(haha, see what I did there), let's get back to the real beast we call shoes.
As I said earlier, I've decided to do a capsule wardrobe, and that means I will only own 9 shirts, five pairs of pants, five pairs of leggings(because I can't live without my leggings), 9 pairs of shoes, and five sweaters. Now, this is going to be a feat and act of God to widdle down my expansive shoe collection from 20 to nine, but I'm going to try! I starting by categorizing them by work shoes, casual shoes, and classy shoes. Then, once I've done that, I'm going to go through each pile and sort out which ones I like and which ones I don't, then find out if they fit me or not. once I've done that, I look through the last shoes that are ‘standing’ in the win pile, and pick 9 out of those shoes. Basically, I'm playing the hunger games of shoes ;-)
Another thing I'm going to be doing for my entire capsule wardrobe is keeping a list in my bullet journal of all the things I need. Not want, need. IM going to go ‘no buy’ this year, as a goal for 2020. What that means is that I'm only buying things I need. New deodorant, need that! cute notebook and stickers, don't need that. I'm saving myself from impulse buying by only writing down the things I need. Bullet journals are great for recording things like that, as well as keeping record of things like daily habit trackers, mood trackers, diet trackers, and anything else you can think of that you would like to track and have a record of theyre brilliant.
So, anyway, i now need to actually get back to cleaning my shoes, as i took a break to write this for you... Have a great day and don't forget, if you can dream it, you can do it(Walt Disney said that, and that guy was a full-on genius.)

Letters of a sentimental minimalist, day two: finding your theme
I'm only on day two and I'm already excited to clean and do other minimalist-type things:-) Our task of day 2 is finding our theme, and I was 100% ready to get into this task, but only on the very surface layer. but then I got to thinking... “What if ‘finding our theme’ just wasn't for our clothes and possessions, but for yourself and view on life?”
‘The definition for theme is: Theme is defined as the main idea or an underlying meaning of a subject.’ What if we took the step further, and found our inner themes, and changed them to what we want them to be.
2020 is coming, and everyone is making commitments to change things like diets or exercise regimes, but what if we also changed our personal themes? I keep talking about themes, and what I mean is that when you look at things like a book or movie, you can find themes like loss, kindness, friendship, and so on. Well, what if we could all see our lives as a movie. What would be our theme? Love, kindness, redemption, loss, survival? the experiences that make up us is our life themes.
I want to change my personal life theme to a motivator, artist, and entrepreneur. What do I do to change that? Well, I have to cut things out of my life that goes against my ‘dream themes’. One of the big themes I have but hate? I judge, constantly. Now, I happen to be a woman, and I know for a fact that women have a bad habit of smiling at one another and giving each other a quick once-over before walking away. it's a bad habit, and I'm trying to quit. Judging a book by its cover is not how I want to live my life.
I want to be free of the judgment that I gave other people, and I think that I can, as long as I have faith in myself and keep up with my goals. I challenge you(whoever is reading this) to choose one new ‘dream theme’ you would like to have in your life, and commit yourself to practice that theme every day.

I thought I liked cats until I came home to find mine had peed on my science book which was on my laptop which was on my super-soft hard-to-clean rug. My cat can go suck it in hell.

also me: won't touch the 150+ dollars I have in my bank account because I'm a heathen who won't use debit cards and would rather pay in cash
letters from the sentimental minimalist, part one: Finding your own style
you guys know nothing about me, so let's start there. I love art. I do ti all the time, from poetry to painting to writing small plays and spin-off series of stuff that I love, and I also love reading. But amidst all this stuff that I do, I have stuff that I don't do. I have things I've never used, and only keep them because I feel bad about letting them go. In scientific terms, I'm a hoarder. but my sister, on the other hand, is a complete neat freak. I mean, she does a full deep clean every time she gets some new clothes, and dumps all the stuff left out in my bed, and has literally no sentimental value for anything because if she doesn't use it, she doesn't need it. She is the literal definition of a minimalist, and I hated it.
She would always get on me about cleaning, picking up after myself, and not being such a slob. I would then argue that that's how I work best, really mell-pell(my harry potter words are coming into play now :-) ), but I knew it was just an excuse because I'm lazy, stubborn and a wicked procrastinator.
one day, she was watching a video on minimalism, and kept begging me to watch it with her. I only did it because I was bored, but then I began to see the appeal in it. It was a good way to live, because, with less stuff, you clean less, have less clutter, and just feel more alive. I was immediately engaged in what the lady on the video was saying and felt like I should start with being a minimalist too. My sister laughed and told me I would actually have to be committed to being a minimalist, which is also another fault of mine, but I told her I could do it, so here I am, a few days after Christmas, getting ready for the first big commitment of my life. Minimalism.
everyday i want to post, for thirty days, my progress of becoming a minimalist. Today was figuring out my style. If you want to do this along wit hme, you can go right ahead, as its always easier when someone can hold you accountable. And before I go, I want to give you a bit of wisdom my sister just told me. “Minimalism takes discipline. you can do this.” My sisters great, right!
Well, see you guys tomorrow for part two, finding a wardrobe theme!

what would it be like to live in a world
where you judge with your heart and not with your eyes.
where you cant hide behind fronts, disguises or lies
you feel someone before you,
and just focus on their warmth, love, and beating heart.
imagine a world where we were all blind
and everyone cared for fellow mankind
