The Cippus Perusinus, a stone tablet with one of the longest known Etruscan inscriptions on it, 3rd century BCE. The text describes an arrangement between two families for the use of a tomb. The Etruscan alphabet, a relative of the Greek and Roman scripts, faded as Latin  became the primary language of the Roman Empire (with Greek as the second language learned by educated people). It was likely no longer in use by the year 0.

See that picture above? That’s a close up of my great grandmother’s immigration papers when she first came to the US back in the early 20th century. But my great grandma’s information isn’t the important part here. The important part is that line in the middle there about how they arrived in the country.

And how ‘stowaway’ is a legitimate, valid option to select.

So yeah. They absolutely just showed up, and that part of immigration history needs to be talked about a lot more.

Hey hey! I bring news about Chile. Instead of solving the issues or talking to the people the government declared a curfew.

Cops and Military have killed at least 4 people, you know 4 unarmed unprotected people.

The last time this happened was in Chile’s dictatorship which ended in 1988. We are now in a ““democracy”

I don’t know what’s gonna happen the following days aside from more national protests.

For the last years Chile’s cost of living has increased quite a lot.

Electricity bills, water privatization, student debt, pensions are really low, etc.

Last week in was announced that the metro fare would increase again. Which means that now is around 1,5 USD, BUT keep in mind that the minimum wage in Chile is around 300USD, for someone who ears minimum wage transportation only takes around 20% of their income. 50% of the population earns minimum wage.

Plus all of this, the ministers of economy made fun of the people and showed 0 empathy. Saying that “why don’t you take the metro at 5 am, when it’s cheaper” (it’s not peak hours obviously)

All this anger accumulation resulted in students evading the metro fare, which started a nationwide protest.

Instead of trying to solve the issue the president allowed military on the streets to repress people.

Now the increase of the fare has been “frozen” but since it’s not enough protests have kept going.

I tried to resume it as best as I can 😂 but basically, the metro fare was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Now it’s a general discomfort protest.

Fun fact: Mississippi only ratified the 13th Amendment banning slavery in 2013. The amendment was adopted nationwide in 1865 after a three-fourths majority of states voted to ratify it, but Mississippi never submitted the official documentation until February 7, 2013. (All other states had already done so.) This means that Mississippi didn’t officially abolish slavery until 6 years ago.

why are y'all surprised about school segregation? mine was segregated until 2010. it’s still extremely common in the South, they just find workarounds. even in counties where they ban segregation they simply only test white students for the gifted program and use school of choice programs to continue to segregate schools.

It remains a beacon of hope for individual rights and respect for the rule of law even in more difficult times.  The University of Minnesota Law School strongly supports this tradition, particularly through the work of its Human Rights Center.
