Clearly, the Remi Diaries have been on hiatus. There are several posts that I’ve been working on reviewing items, and places. But I have to admit that my heart has been taken over by a passion for rescue. I volunteer and foster for Sit With Me Shelter Dog Rescue. So, now I am debating starting a new blog about my adventures in rescue. And a new platform. So many things to consider.
New Location
Remi and I have relocated to Ottawa, Ontario. Now begins a new chapter of reviewing dog products, visiting parks, and all things dog-related.

Travel Tip!
If your dog is like Remi and gets car sick ALL THE TIME, please consider this tip:
For dogs more than 50 pounds, give half a regular Gravol 20 minutes before you plan to depart. It will keep their stomach settled and the dog will stay awake and alert. Effects will last about 12 hours.
I've checked whether this is safe with my vet, and she agreed that is what she tells pet owners to do.
I've been doing this the last several car rides with Remi and he's so much happier in the car now. He actually looks forward to going for drives.
The Dog Food Advisor's unbiased dog food reviews and dog food ratings searchable by brand or star rating. Find the best dry, canned or raw food for your dog.
This website is a huge help when it comes to selecting what to feed your dog. I'm not a person that can walk into a pet food store and look at the nutrition info on the bags/cans/packages of dog food and understand what I am seeing. This website breaks it down so everyone can understand it and make informed decisions on what to feed. Every food is rated on a 5 star scale. 1 star being poor, 5 stars being the best.
Of course, you have to remember that you can feed your dog the best, 5 star food there is, and Fido still might not eat it. Dogs have preferences too. I was feeding Remi Now! Puppy version and he did not like it. Wouldn't eat it. He's happy right now on another food that is only getting a 4 star rating. Don't be afraid to call your favourite pet food store and see if they will accept you returning a bag on dog food that your pet clearly doesn't enjoy. Most stores will allow this. They know the importance of having a happy pet.
Once more with feeling
So, I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. About blogging and how there is a distinct lack of any compendium of dog friendly places here on PEI. And I know if you are anything like me, you take to the Internet to try and figure it all out.

I am going to blog about my dog friendly (and not so friendly) experiences here on the Island.
Now, in a place where the population is mostly rural based, you'd think there'd be more fenced in/off leash dog areas. And maybe I'm wrong but I haven't found that many.
There's the dog park in Summerside. It's now located on Seaweed Drive. It's really nothing to write home about. It's small, fenced in. And not particularly well looked after. There is no water source to water your dog at and it's pretty muddy/dirty inside. There are no benches to sit on in the space, while you watch your furry friend run around and sniff butts. I've been here several times and each time I wonder why I wasted my time driving to Summerside. I give it two stars. * *
There's a small dog park in Cornwall, right near the skateboard park. It has a partially buried tire for your dog to run around and a bench to sit on. I've never been here, but I drive past twice a day and never see a dog in it. That says something. I give it one star. Cornwall, get it together! *
Upton Park. It's not officially an off-leash park, but everyone treats it as so. It's probably my favourite place to take Remi. It's huge. There's a couple of beach-y areas, where Fide can swim and lots of open spaces for Feefee to play tag and chase a ball. The only down side is the lane and parking; they are riddled with massive potholes and you can seriously damage your vehicle. I find that some dog owners here are quite rude. I' was always taught that if you are strictly in an off leash area to walk your dog and you're not going to let it romp and play with other dogs, that you keep your furry friend on his leash. Dogs that are off leash are supposed to be able to approach other dogs and start a massive game of tag or take off for the water. So, if your dog is off leash and playing with mine, don't give me a nasty look or make a comment. Your fault, bud. I give Upton Park four stars. * * * *
The Humane Society Dog Park. It costs $20/yr for a membership to this park and it's open 24/7. Now I've only been here once, but it's by far the pinnacle of the fenced dog parks on PEI. Despite having to buy the membership, it's a great park. I give it four stars as well. * * * *
Provincial Parks as dog parks. Dogs are allowed in provincial parks as long as they are on leashes and you clean up after them. Use common sense when bringing your pet to a provincial park. I give them 3 stars. * * * Feel free to add to this list by commenting. I'll make additions as necessary.

The long drive home went better than I thought it would. He mostly just slept and didn't get sick or chew on anything that was packed around him. He's settling in at home pretty nicely. There have been a few times he's pushed Cassi too far and she's snapped at him, but he needs to learn.

Today was Remi's first experience with snow. And, honestly, I don't think that he even noticed it. We went for a walk at Bruce Pit, it felt like a storm and he just trotted along beside me. His recall is so much better that it was. I finally feel like I own a dog instead of a mischief machine.
