The point of recorded history is to learn from our mistakes, but some lessons needed a repeat performance. This one was the same old song and dance, the language of the oppressed rising up and taking a very well placed shot at capitalism. Renaissance came this time, not announced by beautiful art, but a different kind of revolution. The stock market crashed, millions of dollars of student debt disappeared, property licenses and trademarking seemed to be swept away without a trace. The world as they knew it changed, and for every step forward it had taken, this put them ten feet back, instead. The change, the second coming of the renaissance created the new age roaring twenties.
Families began to rise up through the ranks; related by both blood and bond, taking over things just as they had during the Great Depression. Prohibition was imposed to try to control them, speakeasies popped up around the country, hell - even moonshiners found their way back to the future in this new world. The families weren’t the only ones throwing their hat in the ring for this new dawn, everyone was interested in a fighting chance when it came to a good old fashioned power struggle. Politicians who wanted to restore order, dirty cops who could be bought and paid for by whim, even your friendly prosecutor could find heaven or hell in their intentions if you looked hard enough. The only question was, where does your loyalty lie? Someone was going to make it out alive, and you better hope you played the right cards to go with them, because other wise you may end up just another drive by victim of the new world.
