America is a BIG mess right now.
Like HUGE. And nobody can deny that.
With police brutality, systemic racism, the fact that corporations control every second of our lives including our healthcare and prison systems, how prisoners are not able to vote and now protestors in political opposition to those in power are being targeted and thrown in there, not to mention the fact that kids are being locked away for possession of marijuana with longer sentences than sexual assault or murder, the totally unfair and ridiculous stigmas based on gender, race, sexual orientation, religion or lack thereof, the incredible discrimination that those groups face (particularly women, black people, latinx, and the lgbt+ community just to name a few), the unconstitutionality of the abortion bans, r*pe culture, the total corruption that has poisoned our government with “representatives” not actually representing us but rather CocaCola and the NRA, the lack of gun regulations despite the record number of mass shootings and murder of women for just saying no to a guy, domestic violence, the mental health crisis...And there is so much more but that’s pretty much the big stuff.
Anyway, my question is that, with all of this social injustice, what the hell are the citizens supposed to do???
Do we just sit by while people are being murdered for reasons that could easily be remedied until we can vote all the crooked and irresponsible people out of government?
Do we lock ourselves in our houses with the hope that we won’t be a “threat” to police and pretty much be forced to give up our right to freedom of speech and protest?
Do we wait and hope for the best with our “thoughts and prayers” while our children go to school and risk being killed until someone in Congress grows a heart?
Do we revolt like the French Revolution and take down the 1% of the population that has ruined the economy for future generations??
I mean I certainly don’t want that to happen, but let’s be honest with ourselves: spreading the word and saying names and calling out police and representatives and the justice system for their completely selfish disregard to do their jobs isn’t going to solve any issues.
I vote. I want my voice to be heard, absolutely no question. But the system is rigged. It is totally rigged against the general population and the outcomes are already decided by the party in power by drawing out the districts to win and the people that are most influential are not the voters but the ones who have the money to fund them. And it is because of all this—all this injustice, all this selfishness, all this pain and heartbreak—that I have, and many people I know, become the most cynical individuals on the planet.
What can we do in a society that thrives on the powerless?
Please someone help me answer this question. I am truly at a loss and going insane trying to find any meaning AT ALL in this shriveled up life that I have to live.
