.2014 < 2015.
So here we are. Two days into 2015 with only 363 days left until we are back to looking back on the past year and hoping that the coming year is better or just as good as the one that has just past. For me I have so many hopes for this coming year (especially since Marty McFly has already been to 2015 and apparently it is suppose to be awesome… if only his kid stays away from Griff Tannen). I hope this is the year that my family finally gets to have all of its founding sibling members together and I hope that my career only goes up from here. But moreover I hope that I get to experience amazing things with amazing people just like last year.
Last year I set out to accomplish 12 goals that I outlined at the beginning of 2014. Sadly I did not get to accomplish all 12 goals like I wanted to… but I did more than most people so why don’t you shut up about it already! So here is what my list looked like after it was all said and done:
So 6 out of 12 isn’t bad and while I don’t want it to seem like I am making an excuse for not doing the others, I feel that somehow I grew this year even in not accomplishing the last six things on my list. So here we go, me sharing the things that I have learned and then sharing the things that I want to accomplish in 2015.
1. Find the beautiful things about life:
And here they are. While I have gotten a chance to appreciate all the beautiful things in life these three really have made me realize just how beautiful life is. I’ve gotten a chance to see them grow and learn which has been something that I will always treasure. I’ve gotten to see a little boy who had regressed at work use skills that I taught him to regain his voice. I got to see friends get married and friends have really amazing experiences presented to them. I’ve gotten to see the sun come up and go down with all the colors that that comes with and I am thankful for each one. I’ve gotten to spend time with great friends and even after experiencing the worst storms of my life have been able to look back and see just how beautiful life is.
2. Write a Short Story:
Micah the Mighty: While it will never be an award-winning story, it is my story and somehow even with all its imperfections I still have a fondness for it that I can’t explain.
3. Read 5 more books from the Banned Books List:
4. Get a Tattoo
5. Walk/Run a 5k for a good cause:
Money raised went to The Cool Kids Campaign, which can be found here: http://www.coolkidscampaign.org
6. Take a cooking class
7. Get rid of at least one bad habit
8. Eat a cupcake in 5 states I have never had one in before
9. Bake 5 new things with friends:
10. Go to the South (beyond VA)
11. Read a controversial book
12. Go on a legitimate vacation
This year has actually made me realize the importance of SELF-CARE. Somehow 2014 and a great deal of its stressors made me a really good friend with BURNOUT. So I finally got to take a legitimate vacation which entailed going to the beach, seeing wild dolphins, spending time with friends and family, lots of winery tours, baking, eating, and doing things just for the sheer enjoyment of them without having to worry about the mundane things that often get more of our attention.
While 2014 was eventful and allowed for a great deal of growth to occur personally, I can honestly say that I hope 2015 is 10,000 times better than 2014. Here’s to all the good, the not so good, the terrible, the exciting, the anxious, and the spectacular events that 2015 has in store for us. I am ready for another year of good times with family and friends.
*Special Thanks to God and all the friends & family that made this year possible!
