The ever-exciting world of graphic design began with a fascinating history. It was so exciting, in fact, that I fell asleep while reading about it. Now, you may think: doesn’t that mean that the text was boring? Not at all! My brain just needed a temporary recharge to be able to soak in all of the wonderful information on the five eras of graphic design. Pre-Gutenberg era was the best! Nature and art… combined? I would have never considered to draw the shapes of the things that are around me all the time. This sheer genius astounded me. If you thought that was great, just wait until you hear about the Gutenberg era! The printing press was created, allowing people to create typography, illustrations, and graphic design. Gee whiz! But wait, there’s more! The Industrial Revolution provided me with much more exciting information to study. Words and images were combined in a mind-boggling process. The artistic period came next, having graphic design art styles and new technology combined, allowing people in the 2017 to ruin this progress with distasteful memes and unsightly art choices. This, of course, was also made possible by the digital era. Computers have allowed us to share important information, but more importantly, they have allowed us to share pictures of cats online rather than focusing fully on homework.
