"I thought Koyo would want company…" He murmured, mostly to himself when he realized that Koyo would be too busy to want company. He wasn’t much of a company anyway.

Blinking up at Spanner, he asked, a bit worried, “They won’t mind if you’re late…?” He might miss something, after all. It’s a party. However, he doesn’t mind if Spanner stayed a little longer too. It’s been too long since he’s seen him.

Koyo went back with the box of cake in hand, and placed it on the counter. "Here you go," he muttered, pushing the box towards Spanner. 'Now leave,' he added on his head. 

He slid his hands under the counter to grab one of the giveaway treats that the shop was offering. "Here," he hands it over to Enma, "If you want to talk, wait for me until my shift finishes."

He smiles a bit as his hair was ruffled and looks at the blond. Spanner seemed a bit dressed up for an occasion today. He wanted to ask first, but decided to state his reason for being here. ”Merry Christmas,” he first greets back, before looking at Koyo, “I just wanted to visit Koyo since he had work today…”

He returns to look at Spanner, “Are you heading somewhere?”

"...Merry Christmas," Koyo replied to Enma and sighed, "You know, you could just have waited at home."

"Anyway, go and have a talk with Spanner first," he shifted his attention to the cake, brought it up and walked over towards the backside of the counter.

Spanner blinks as the appearance of the boy behind the counter registered in his mind. 

"…Koyo-kun?"

And then, serendipitously, his name was spoken behind him by none other than-

"Enma..?"

Christmas miracles indeed. He hadn’t expected to see anyone familiar before he’d made his way to the Vongola’s Christmas party.

"… Merry Christmas," he greets both boys, a smile tugging on his lips.

When the small bell rang, Koyo immediately noticed a certain red-haired boy that entered the shop. Even if this was the case, he quickly shifted his attention towards the person in front of him. 

"...Merry Christmas," Koyo replied back, hinting distaste, "Would you like to add a message on the cake?"

…sat conspicuously inside the glass vestibule, undisturbed. Spanner considered his options - be late, or have mediocre cake.

It was a difficult decision, but he had to make it fast. If anyone else decided to buy it-

"I’ll take the cake."

"Thank you, that'll be for--" 

Koyo blinked as he stared at the familiar looking blonde. This is too much of a coincidence.

...of all the cake shops why did the mechanic end up here? 

 Trying to hide his face, Koyo only hoped that he wouldn't be recognized.

“…Ah…” Enma found himself looking at the ground again while walking, watching his shoes step on patches of snow. They could just eat out to save them from waiting for food. He’ll just make sure to order food for the others back home too when they return. 

He thinks for a moment. Something hot…

“…How about a ramen house, Koyo?”

"We're heading towards the usual place then," Koyo nodded in agreement, kicking the snow from the sole of his shoes as he walked. He was starting to feel numb from the tips of his fingers. Good thing their destination was just a few meters away; hopefully they'll be there before frostbite eats them alive.

Enma nodded at his decision. They both should go home anyway if they didn’t want to catch a fever from this cold weather. Getting sick was the worst. ”Is there anything to eat at home?” He asked curiously, recalling seeing Rauji finish the leftovers for breakfast before he went for a walk.

"Maybe there is?" Koyo replied, unsure. 

If there wasn't, he figured he could just borrow some money from the household. But seeing that Adelheid was strict about it, she might nag at him for using emergency money for such things. "We could just order something," he shrugged and continued to walk, but soon stopping. He glanced back at Enma. "Or do you have something better in mind?"

Enma hesitated for a bit. Is it really okay? But if Koyo said it’s not important, it shouldn’t be, right? He believes Koyo wouldn’t pay him mind if it was. Looking down on the floor to think, he misses the other’s glare and answers, ”…Anything hot is fine.”

'You little...!' 

Koyo was trying to hold back from yelling at the boy. You could say that it was his resolution for the new year. Although this was the case, old habits die hard. "...let's just eat at home," he decided, managing to control his emotions. Hopefully there are still leftovers that Adelheid cooked last night.

Enma looked up at Koyo, but not directly in his stern eyes. “…A bit…” He quietly answered, just barely audible, before he averts his gaze again. “But you said you had to do something…” 

Hanging out with Koyo…could be fun? he thinks, if he actually wanted to spend time with him too. But he can’t possibly be the reason for letting him leave his duties.

"It's not that important," Koyo responded. Besides, the cold was getting worse. He raised his scarf up to his chin, "What do you want to eat?" 'And you better not tell anything's fine,' He glared at Enma, hoping his thoughts would somehow get through the small boy's head.

Enma stumbles forward after being yanked by the arm, and stares up at the taller boy a bit worriedly. “I-It’s okay, Koyo. You don’t need to worry about me…” He tries to pull his arm back, but Koyo’s grip was too tight than necessary. He could do nothing but set his gaze on the snow below their feet. I’m being a bother again…

Ahh, he can't handle this anymore. Koyo stopped from walking, releasing his grip on the other. He turned around and fixed his eyes on the redhead's face. "And why shouldn't I?" he answered. Enma was making that kind of face again. "You're hungry, aren't you?"

It was, in fact, Koyo.

Enma blinked, looking up at the taller boy. He lets of his scarf, which exposed his now-reddish nose. “Not really…” He answered in that usual shy voice of his. “I thought the weather was nice this morning…so I went for a walk…”—Guess that wasn’t the case anymore. 

Cracking a small smile, another gust of wind blew. He closed his eyes tightly, before opening them again. “H-How about you Koyo? “

Koyo stared in silence. Well now, that was what he thought too.

"Are you an idiot?" He sighed, his breath became visible as he spoke. "I'm different. I have something to do," he lied, "But seeing as you are now, I can't just go now, can I?" His hand that was covered with mittens, reached for Enma's hand forcefully pulling his arm. "Let's go home."

Looks like there was another idiot who’d walk in this kind of weather. 

Enma was strolling down the street with one hand in his pocket, the other keeping his scarf above his nose. He was still slightly shivering even under the many layers of clothing, which he found quite distressing. Was it always this cold before? 

Hearing footsteps, the redhead looked up from the ground. He stops, trying to make out the person jogging to his direction. “K-Koyo?” He mumbled quietly to himself.

Is that...? Koyo stopped from his tracks when he saw the redhead nearby. "What are you doing here?" he approached the smaller boy, the sound of snow crunching under his feet. Koyo then noticed the boy's quivering form. He frowned. "Are you killing yourself?"

The gust of cold wind traveled through the streets. Koyo sneezed, shuddering from the chilly weather as he walked down a slope. Who would go out for a walk in this difficult weather? Only an idiot would. 

He started to jog upon reaching the bottom. The sky was as white as a sheet...there was really nothing much to see. He continued moving until suddenly, he spotted a familiar figure in the distance.

Spanner nods, shifts his seat slightly to give Koyo some room to view the screen, where text had started to appear. Clicking through them slowly enough to allow Koyo to read, Spanner reviews the events that had so far taken place in the game.

They weren’t very promising.

“We’re going through the gallery,” Spanner comments.

"Hm..." Koyo responded, his eyes fixed on the screen. A little girl browsing through a gallery...how could this become a horror game? Unless...

Left, right--Spanner hit the buttons repetitively as the sprite moved until they came across a huge painting in a center of a room. 'This must be where everything starts,' Koyo thought to himself as he read the words that formed on the ground.

"A child that falls into the devil's playground. How cruel," he muttered to himself, frowning. Ib moved around the gallery again; but this time, the lights were killed off. Going forward to the window, a shadowy figure banged the windows. The glass from Koyo's hands slipped and fell to the ground with a crash.

His body froze.

Spanner pulls up a chair and grins, a little uncharacteristically. The lack of sugar was getting to him, perhaps.

“I saw it floating around. Doesn’t seem too bad, but then, I hardly ever play games like these.”

Koyo gave him a strange look as he saw a grin that leaked upon the mechanic's face. He poured himself a glass before replying.

"This might be something then. I'll play along for now," he said, taking a seat and placing it behind Spanner's. He peers over the desktop as he waited for the man to start, the glass on his hand.

“It’s on the desktop,” Spanner calls out from the kitchen nook, where he was fetching them a pitcher of iced tea and two tall glasses. He grabs a bag of chips, too, and walks back to where Koyo stood, a little away from the desktop.

“It’s called ‘Ib’.”

"Ev...e?"

Koyo repeated, as he walked over and glanced over the monitor screen. "You like playing strange games like this?" he asked, not particularly against the idea.

“Well, I recently downloaded a new game, and I wanted to play it with someone around, just in case.”

Spanner closes the door behind Koyo, effectively trapping the cool air inside. He shakes his candy bag slightly, and moves to disappear over to the kitchen nook.

“Something cold to drink?”

Koyo looked around, familiarizing himself with the atmosphere. He sneezes a bit; his body chilled with the sudden change of temperature. "Please," he asks Spanner. His throat was getting dry.

"I don't mind. What game is it?"
