I am Anubis, God of Funerals and Keeper of the Ways of Death. Don't call me 'Death Boy' or 'Dog Breath', as my infernal brother does, or I shall turn you into an insect. Please do not refer to the Devourer of the Dead as 'Poochiekins'.
Enjoy your stay in Egypt, though I do have to warn you about the deadly scorpions, poisonous snakes, and rigged arrows in the more interesting tombs. Please don't touch anything, it's terribly exhausting to conduct an improvised death ceremony. And don't even think about messing with the mummies. They're a nasty sort of bunch and merciless with tourists.

In fact, he generally adores Christmas because everyone's so happy and excited and there's good food and cheesy music and things are great. Horus and Jesus were born on the same day and one time, they even had a dual birthday party, which was fun. Horus didn't like the party hat Jesus forced him to wear, of course.Ā
"Because there almost always is a motive. Iām just being reasonable." Bastet stated, a slight frown on her features. His emphasis on āfavoriteā hadnāt gone unnoticed by her. "And I wonāt accept your visit until you give me reason as to why youāre here."
"Ugh, fine," said Anubis with a groan, rolling his eyes in exasperation. So much for friendly familial relations, right? "Alright, since you're so keen on painting me as the selfish bastard in this, I'll tell you. Someone- and I'm not pointing fingers at you, so don't pounce on me- took my scales and I need it back before Osiris notices. Wanna help?"
"Why does there have to be a motive behind everything, dear Bastet?" asked Anubis in a mock-offended voice. "Couldn't you just accept I simply wanted to visit my... uh, favorite cousin? No matter her choices in favored animals?"
tu sei il mio soldatino
la ragione per cui vivo
non ti scordar di me
io veglierò su di te
Even the gods get lonely sometimes. Spending an eternity around resentful ushabti wasn't the most fun sort of existence, and it was made even worse when his adopted family avoided him like the plague. Horus couldn't stand him, Osiris barely tolerated him and regarded him as little more than an annoying tag-along... but his own mother... Isis...
Anubis held his head in his hands, willing himself to snap out of it. He didn't get like this very often, but when he did... well, he was liable to downing more than a few beers out of desperation and nostalgic sorrow for a life he never had. A mortal life, with a home and friends and a family who loved him, instead of a mother who gave him away at birth and a brother who spat on his very existence... he stared into space, watching the candles of the tavern flicker ever so slightly, reminding him of the Underworld's river gates.
I'm having a hard time finding mythological based characters and it would sincerely be appreciated if you could reblog this. Once I get a definite list of URLs, I'll put it on my blog as a masterlist. Your character can be Percy Jackson based, Norse, Greek, Roman, Egyptian, it doesn't matter. If your character has a mythological base, please reblog this.
"A pity..." murmured the god, twisting his Ankh necklace as he stared off into space. The girl before him didn't appear to be of godly blood- he couldn't catch the scent of any aura on her, but perhaps she was a child of the Greek pantheon. "Who is your godly parent, little one?"
"So... how would you like to go on an exciting journey battling the forces of evil and chaos and retrieve a lost Ancient Egyptian artifact of mine?" asked Anubis with all the enthusiasm of Father Christmas pulling a shiny toy out of his bag. "I need an especially brave and intelligent mortal for this task."
Anubisā sacred plant is the cypress, a tree that Greeks as well as the Egyptians associated with death and mourning. Cypress oil is a great offering, and burning it during ritual is very effective. He prefers strong incense, especially myrrh, cedarwood, and the traditional frankincense. Beer and bread is the standard offering to pretty much any Egyptian God, and He will accept it, but Iāve discovered that He likes strong liqueur, especially rum, much better. Cool water, the traditional Egyptian drink of the dead, is also a good libation. More than one modern Kemetic says He seems to likes spicy food and dark, bitter chocolate.
Listening to the voice not so far, she watched the male slap the hand of anotherās, Lara rose an eyebrow in curiosity. She never really liked āworking togetherā but it had to be that way. When the male spoke about showing respect for the mummified bodies. Raising her eyebrow, Lara knelt down beside the male as at other walked away, brushing over his stupidity. Watching the body for a moment, Laraās long hair ran down her back in itās high pony. She was her usual brown shorts, light blue vest tops, her backpack on her back and her pistols in their holsters. āYou seem to have a fair bit of knowledge on the treasures here..ā She spoke towards the male from behind her sunglasses.
"You'd be surprised," he muttered darkly, not bothering to look up as he carefully extracted several dead scarab beetles from the ear canals of the mummy. The mummy was a scribe in the time of the Middle Kingdom, a fairly wealthy nobleman, who was fond of too much beer, which lead to his untimely demise. Thankfully, tomb robbers had spared his corpse and his original protective amulets still hung safely around his neck. When Anubis traced his fingers across the golden ankh, his eyes briefly burned gold and a wide grin spread across his handsome features. "Let's just say I've been doing this for a really long time, beautiful."
"Hazel Levesque," said Anubis in a fond voice, leaning against the doorpost of her cabin. "Goodness, you've grown. I remember when your dad introduced you to all of us as a baby and you drooled all over Sobek." The god chuckled slightly, remembering the happy memories of long ago, before all the pantheons decided to split away. "He certainly didn't like that, but then again, Sobek's only in a good mood once every eon or so... you probably don't remember me at all, do you?"
Hazel jumped in surprise when she heard her name being called. Glancing to her left and right, she spotted the person that must have spoken. At first she thought it was Nico, an opened her mouth to call his name. But then he kept talking about her father and something aboutā¦patheons? What in Junoās name?
"Umā¦" she stalled, trying to figure out whoāor what, because he certainly didnāt sound mortalāthis Nico-look-alike wanted. Her face was already red enough because heād talked about her drooling. "Sorry, I canāt say I know you. Though you bear a very good resemblance to my brother Nico."
The way this guy talked, he soundedā¦old. Nearly as old as Thanatos had sounded when Hazel had helped free him. Besides that fact, he just radiated this kind of supernatural aura that made Hazel aware that she was speaking with an immortal. āSo youāre saying that youāveā¦met my dad before?ā Hazel asked. She probably sounded extremely slow, but this was just such a big shock. What immortal would want to speak with her?
"Hazel Levesque, though you already seem to know that," Hazel said, an embarrassed smile. She shook his hand as well she could despite her hesitancy. A heavier blush colored her cheeks. "Um, okay. Anubis. Makes sense why youāre even talking to me now."
Anubis nodded. āPale scrawny sort of guy, looked like he had the flesh burned off his skull, loud booming voice and fond of black, the usual with Roman death gods, right?āĀ He flashed her a sheepish grin. āItās been a while since Iāve seen him in person.ā
It had been a century or so since he last saw the old man and Anubis wished he had kept better contact with Olympus and Olympus-Down-Under or whatever Pluto/Hades named his realm. Death gods were supposed to stick together! And no civilization admired or respected death like the Ancient Egyptians, so while he understood Zeus/Jupiter and Poseidon/Neptune being a little wary of the pantheon like the sniveling cowards they always were, he didnāt understand why Pluto had simply⦠not talked. Zip. Zero. Nada. A bitter sort of look came over his face.Ā
"Why does anyone do anything?" he asked with a casual shrug. "Why does the sun rise and the earth turn? Why does Olympus happily ignore our existence? The world may never know the answers to those questions, my beautiful little godling." With a snap of his fingers, a roll of bandages appeared in the air and fashioned themselves into a bench large enough for two. He gestured for Hazel to sit beside him. "But letās suppose for a moment that I have a proposition for you. Would you be interested?"
"No homo" cries the team at the dig site. The head archaeologist sinks to his knees, sobbing. He has dedicated his entire career to the pursuit of homo habilis, an important part of the hominid evolutionary line. All his work led up to this archaeological dig site. But now, his whole life has been for nothing. There is no homoā¦.there is only Australopithecus.
Hi everyone! This is Maddy-Mun, underpaid writer for Anubis, God of Toilet Paper and Gold Eyeliner, and I'm really happy you guys followed me, okay? Like seriously, I love you all and yeah, you guys are awesome. Anyway, does anyone want to plot? Get a starter? Answer an open? Anubis is a bit bored right now and he wants to play with someone. XD

Anubis shrugged. "Don't worry about it," he said lightly, waving away the small sting of never getting recognized in the modern world. Everyone had forgotten about the true ancients, but everyone knew the stupid little lightbulb Apollo and his emotionally constipated sister. "Can't say I've ever met this Nico of yours, to be perfectly honest. But your dad and I haven't been in touch lately, so I might've missed the birth announcement."Ā
Anubis stuck out his hand for the girl to shake. "Anubis Anapa, Lord of Funerals and God of the Dead. Call me Anubis," he said with a slight wink. "Seriously, call me. It's been way too long since I've hung out with godlings."
"Hey, don't touch the wrappings!" snapped Anubis, lightly slapping the hand of the other worker. "These babies are over two thousand years old, show some respect!" Thanks to a few persuasive chats with the curator of the British Museum, Anubis was granted access to the new Egyptian exhibit and he was finally able to work with the mummies again; even if it was something as simple as rewrapping the bodies, nothing brought back happy memories of Egypt more than the smell of embalming liquid and linen bandages.
