She forgave his imperfections but he couldn’t forgive hers. He said he wanted something real but put her on a pedestal, the most unreal place. The illusion of perfection came crashing down when she held him accountable for his cruelty. True love is kind and forgiving, she thought. But he tried to turn her into vessel for his pain, exuding it into her to bring her down. Her shine was too bright for him, making her shadows so much darker than his. It made him feel small and, somehow, less. Having been down there before, she refused to go back. She’d put herself back together so many times. So now he’s alone, still searching for one weak enough to allow him to spew his pain into her without consequence, someone who was still broken. And she keeps on shining in her faith that God has a purpose for all things. She had been tested, passed, and learned in the process. You can’t save a man from himself.
