So you wanna know how to smell like strawberries or vanilla? (maybe something like strawberry for spring/summer and vanilla for winter/fall) Well. This is that post. This post is JUST for body care, not hair care. Hair care is a different ballpark so get what works for you and not just based on scent. (For example: I get a lot of Maui Moisture products and they don’t have strawberry or vanilla scented products). You also don't need to throw away products, they don't go bad even if you haven't used them in a few months. Just keep them in a place where there isn't any light.
Do you need everything in this post? No. You can get by with just a bar of soap, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. This is just an in-depth shower. You wanna add more steps to it? Go ahead. You wanna take steps away from it? Go ahead. I have depression and TOTALLY understand if you want to make this as simple as possible.
In fact, in my everyday shower all I do is use my beauty bar and brush my teeth. Yes, you can brush your teeth in the shower! I’ve seen a lot of beauty hygiene girlies do that in the past, so do it! If it helps you with hygiene do it! My routine takes no longer than 5-10 minutes for an everyday shower. My everything shower takes no more than 20 minutes. (I live with a bunch of other people so I’ve learned to do things fast.)
IMPORTANT.
If you are afab or have a vagina, DON’T USE SCENTED SHIT DOWN THERE. It can mess up the pH balance and cause yeast infections. You will see that I have an unscented Dove Beauty Bar in each of my routines. Also, it’s self-cleaning. Don’t think you need to go up in there or anything. Okay? Okay.
Everything Shower:
First Step - Shampoo and Conditioner
Now, I double cleanse my hair. Meaning I use either two different shampoos or the same shampoo twice. Do you need to do this? No. But I have been advised by a hair stylist that double cleansing does a couple of things. 1) the first cleanse gets the grim and dirt out, 2) the second cleanse is when the product ACTUALLY works. So, it’s up to you what you want to do.
I usually wash my hair every other day or every three days. I have curly hair and my scalp is all over the place so I don’t wash every day. Again, this is entirely dependent on your scalp and hair type.
Second Step - Unscented/Scented Beauty Bar
As I said earlier this is for the privates. Do you need a second beauty bar? No! Just use unscented if you want. In fact I don’t have a second beauty bar in my vanilla scent. I only got one for my strawberry scent because I wanted to try it. But Just use unscented if you want to! First cleanse is with the unscented (or scented) beauty bar. This is just to get the dirt and grime off of your body.
Do you need to use Dove? Well, there’s a reason why it’s called a “Beauty Bar” and not a bar of soap. I’ve taken showers with bars of soap and there is that squeaky clean feeling you feel after using it. THAT’S THE BAR STRIPPING YOUR SKIN OF IT’S OILS. At least I think… A Beauty Bar doesn’t do that! It still moisturizes your skin while cleaning the dirt and grime off. If you use just a bar of soap MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING A BODY BUTTER OR LOTION AFTER THE SHOWER. It’ll dry out your skin if you use just a bar of soap.
Third Step - Body Wash
Do you need this step? Again, no! If you want to use a beauty bar or bar of soap then go for it! This is just to make the product work with your skin and make you smell good. Bodycology is a really cheap brand, or Suave, to use if you can’t use Dove or Native or anything like that. EOS too! If you’re a stickler for sticking with brands then stick with EOS for lotion, wash, and shaving oil. (Do you need shaving oil? No! If you don’t shave that’s also okay!)
Optional Step - Body Scrub
I do have a small travel size one of Dove but that’s because I’ve noticed three types of body scrubs. Sugar, Gel, and Creamy. Sugar SUCKS ASS. I hate that shit! Gel, or Tree Hut imo, isn’t AS bad but I still hate it. Dove has a Creamy Body Scrub that lathers as you apply it and it’s not as bad! It’s still gritty but it actually makes you feel clean. Do you need a body scrub? Not really. In fact I don’t think I’ll be buying another one after I use up the travel size. If you shave I’ve heard it’s good to apply a scrub then shaving oil. Scrub for exfoliating and then oil for lathering/clean shave.
Fourth Step - Oral Hygiene
Use whatever works. I use Listerine and Colgate. I’ve seen a lot of people use TheraBreath but that shit tastes like actual water and doesn’t feel as clean. When I want mouth wash I want that shit to BURN. So, yeah! If you’re sensitive then use TheraBreath, if you want to feel clean then Listerine (or any other mouth wash that isn’t TheraBreath). Brush your teeth and mouth wash, or mouth wash and brush teeth. I don’t think the order matters. Oh, and use floss too. I keep a bag of floss toothpicks at my computer and floss. (Bc that’s where I’m at most of the time)
Fifth Step - Lotion + Body Mist
This is after the shower. Use lotion on damp skin tbh. You can use an oil to lock in the smell but I haven’t noticed a difference between using body oil and not. So just use a lotion and you’re good to go. Again, whatever brand you use is up to you. I use EOS, but I also have a bodycology lotion too. I also added body mist into this step because it’s easy to apply. Just spray and you’re good to go.
Body Butter or Lotion?
If you have dry skin go for body butter, if you have combination skin or anything that isn’t dry, go with Lotion.
