was there a physical "exam" in the beginning of the school year at SMS?
Yeah there's fitness testing at the start, the end, and I think there's one in the middle but I missed it for some reason. Fitness testing includes your typical stuff like height, weight, and flexibility, but then they also test your vertical jump height, core strength (hold plank position for as long as possible), horizontal jump distance when hopping on your left leg, right leg, and both legs, max box jumps in one minute, and the infamous beep test. This isn't your normal high school where kids compete for the best mile time or the most push-ups and pull-ups. Everyone here is either a machine or will become a machine (if you push yourself). They record your stats so you can see how you improve and compare to the rest.
Also, older kids take the Wingate (a special stationary bike) which tests your max power and such. Never took it myself but it's pretty hardcore. Blood samples are taken and there's a chair next to the bike for people to collapse on when they're done.
Things could have changed and I might have left something out, but this basically sums it up.
