SAM HEUGHAN as JAMIE FRASER OUTLANDER 5.07 The Ballad of Roger Mac Happy Birthday @samsheughan 🥳🥳🥳
Helena couldn't help but stare. She realized, why would she want to be looking anywhere else....
Veda ran, giving chase to the not so little puppy. The last pup of the litter she had discovered and had eventually been cared for by her mother, the adolescent dog paused, panting softly and felt the warm embrace of Veda's arms.
"I know you miss them, but they are happy." She stated matter-of-factly, "and you are very happy when I scratch your belly." She added, to which the sweet devoted dog turned her belly up to her, ready to receive the aforementioned belly scratches, causing her long feathery tail to whip around, hitting Veda. Breaking into a loud laugh, she stumbled to the ground with her and lay there, staring up towards the sun.
"Veda...." Aviva called out.
Sitting up slowly, hidden in the slightly overgrown grass, and still quite damp, she raised a hand, "Here, Mama!"
Aviva approached, widening her gaze, "Veda! This grass is...." and decided not to finish what she was about to say.
How easily could she forget the gentle scolding her mother would impose on herself, Alden and Alynne when they played in puddles and soft earth.
Instead, she continued by gathering her skirts under her and sat down on the soft earth with her. "And have we decided on a name for your friend, yet?" And scratched behind the large pup's ears.
The dog, remembering Aviva as the 'One with Food', barked happily at her and danced about, hoping it would earn her a second meal.
"She thinks she can get more food Mama."
Laughing lightly, she continued to scratch behind her ears. "A name Veda, she needs a name."
Veda studied the pup, cocking her head. "Sometimes she likes to be called 'Freida', and sometimes she likes to be called 'Belle', and today, she wants to be called...Pappy!"
Aviva blinked, "Sweetling...that would make things a little...Seth!" And laughed when Veda jumped up and tried to climb up into his arms.
'Pappy' noticing all the attention to the 'Tall one with food' jumped up as well, hoping for the same kind of love and affection.
"It seems your daughter decided on name for her dog."
In her father's arms, Veda firmly shook her head, "No Mama, 'Pappy' decided on her name."
Kissing Seth softly, she lingered a moment before she added, "Your daughter shared her dog would like to be called 'Pappy'."
Veda shook her head, "No, Mama, not anymore. She wants to be called 'Chippy' now."
Aviva tucked her chin into Seth's shoulder, arms sneaking around his waist and admiring their daughter, who most obviously loved her father.
"My cup runneth over...."
Crisp air and changing seasons, Helena and Ulrich, were busied by not one, not two, but 3 little ones underfoot.
Artemis and Ayla were running circles around Willa in the healing ward, but interest was piqued when they were asked to visit with some of their patients.
Their presence bringing both calamity and calm.
Helena, having suggested a day out with their little ones, found themselves back at the garden by the pond.
Even as the air bit sharply, she huddled the little ones to her body. Albrecht, older than his twin sisters, was sitting up all by himself when he toppled over with a tiny oof!
It startled Helena back to the presence.
"Oh my little wolf...." and kissed his cheeks twice and thrice over to soothe his little whimpers.
"You see your 'Da over there?" And offered another soft kiss to dry off his little tears, and smiled with him, "He is the reason you have little sisters." And settled the infant next to his younger siblings. "I could not be expected to resist....that." and had to look away.
She loved that whatever the season, her Wolf always ran warm.
"Jezyk...." she finally called out, sighing heavily.
She waited a moment and finally sat down, "Some pirate you are, we are on a boat and you are making me sea sick!" Before laughing under her breath and leaning over, "You are still my pirate, and I would not want it any other way. Now, sail us away from our hoard of children!" She added with a soft laugh, kissing him messily.
Helena carefully balanced the newborns in her arms, and breathed out. This time when Helena went into seclusion word was shared that finally her twins had been born.
The birth had been quick, with Lorna grinning and laughing along with each, Ulrich present at the birth, both assisting and greeting his newborns.
Artemis stood beside her mother, Albrecht content in Ulrich's arms and Ayla thumb in her mouth and clinging to her mother's skirts, all surrounded their parents as they announced the names of their twin daughters.
Helena offered a worn but warm smile, "My cup runneth over..." and grinned at those that had gathered, Lorna winking at her, smirking at her oldest friend, proud of what she had endured, and still was.
"We have all seen seven sunrises together, mayhaps even more, I have lost track now." and laughed softly, "The goddess herself has granted my family yet another gift, two daughters." and because of busy arms, she allowed Artemis and Ayla to assist.
First Artemis stepped forward, drawing the black line made of ocher down the bridge of the first of her twin sisters. Helena thanked her quietly, before calling out, "Twins..." and heard a few oohs and ahhs, and Ayla stepped forward to draw a line made of red ocher across her forehead.
"My first...Ulrich and I have named her Ashrah...for we have been blessed and fortunate to have been chosen as her parents..." and peered into the face of her daughter, sleeping restfully against her, little milk bubbles at the corner of her tiny mouth, her hair was already visible, a warm ruddy hair of auburn that matched Artemis', Ayla's and Ulrich's, and then there was her smaller twin.
Once Artemis had drawn that black line down her second twin's tiny nose, and Ayla followed with the red line across her forehead, she beamed at her little girls, thanking them, and then peered back at her teensy twin.
"She has been given the name of Astrea..." and held her close as Astrea let out a small whimper and was carefully wrapped her back up. Unlike her other children with Ulrich, Astrea's hair was a bright cherry red, and was far tinier than any of her others. Holding her close, she thanked those that had gathered, and welcomed the clapping, the small gifts the people she loved brought to her newest babes.
She had even been asked if she wanted more, and Helena laughed, "I have three little ones underfoot, not yet even a tooth in their mouths. The goddess has given with both hands...for that I am grateful."
Alden did not know how time had passed so quickly, and now that their twins were nearing two moons old, he had decided on sharing the news with his family. The psychic connection between himself and Alynne had been how he initially wanted to share the news of Daphne having brought their latest bairn into the world. Yet, to please Daphne, he had had missives created, and quietly, Alden made the official announcement of their twins, their sweet boy Oliver, already so curious and pale-haired, just like his mother, and their newest daughter, Ivy...their gift from the goddess herself. He could have been replete, but everyday that followed, he thanked Daphne for bringing so much precious life into their world.
The earlier seclusion of Helena was made more obvious, and the people of Hillside had thought her labor had begun, and were eager to meet the twins, but when those seven sunrises came and went and Helena did emerge, they were startled to see her, still round and obviously with child(ren).
She stood with their daughters, Artemis and Ayla, each holding their hands as Ulrich carried the newborn boy. Arendt and Abelie stood with them, a step back, giving the moment to the little one.
"I must begin and share that yes...the babes within still stir and will soon see light, when they are fine and ready." and breathed out slowly, "A babe was born..." and wondered what to share about his fallen mother, and strengthened herself, "A mother was lost to this world, giving her life in protection of her son, a babe still wet from the sac." and glanced to her daughters who moved to stand beside her, each being so responsible in holding the tiny jars of black and red ocher.
"He is made Skye." and dipped her finger into the black ocher, and drew a line across his forehead. "Your name little wolf is Albrecht, given to you by your father." and glanced to Ulrich who was balancing the babe in his arms.
He was so much better with him, the only one who could comfort him when he was not at her breast.
And half-smiled at the pair of them, and then back to Arendt, formerly her last boy, and then Abelie, formerly her last adopted child, and beamed at them.
"His second name will be Ulrich. For his father has proven to be his greatest defender...." and drew the thin red line down his nose. "You are home little one."
It was in a moment of warmth and closeness, as Helena and Ulrich kept on with their plans, preparing for the eventual births of their own twins when they were alerted.
The Wolves of Hillside had been warned by the Wolves of the Stony Hills & Oxbow Lakes that an intruder wandered. A rogue wolf, hellbent on righting a wrong.
Gabriel, a wolf of the Stony Hills found himself talking with the Golden Wolf Bast, sharing the news the rogue wolf was giving chase to another wolf, a female at that.
Even before Helena could waddle to the scene, and Ulrich hurry on, they saw the scene before them. With Arendt joining them he stood with his mother, protecting her as well.
The rogue wolf viciously attacking the female wolf, teeth clamped about her neck, cutting off the last breath from her and was felled.
Protected by Ulrich, he had tried to keep her from the bloody scene, where the wolves of Hillside also took to fight and end the interloper and murderous wolf's life with Bast claiming the rogue wolf's heart, re-instating his alpha status amongst the pack.
Unable to stand by, Helena approached the fallen she-wolf and found her gone. With tears rimming her eyes, she cast a blessing over her, "Find peace my lady…" she whispered.
She quick made arrangements to have her brought to the Healing Ward of the Morning Light, when she heard a soft whimper.
A babe, far too small, but begging for warmth. His mother's last act was to protect him, leaving him in the dense brush. Helena hugged the newborn, still wet from the sac to the heat of her body and walked behind Arendt who now carried the fallen mother, wrapped in his cloak.
Arendt had worried. His own mother was heavy with his new brothers or sisters in her belly, and now, there was a newborn babe, with no one to claim him and he balked, immediately apologizing for his inability to care for a newborn, just yet.
He was not reprimanded, but Helena smiled to him, placing a reassuring hand on his arm, "My sweet boy, you have done enough, I would not ask it of you." When the babe was handed over to Ulrich, what little whimpers of protest settled, comforted not only by the heat of Ulrich's body, but by the scent of him.
Helena worked delicately, talking to the fallen mother and washing her clean, reiterating the child would be safe and just how beautiful he was. Readying her for her final journey to her funeral pyre, she cried for her. "May the mother watch over you, may the stranger be kind at your sacrifice." and kissed her forehead.
Ulrich and herself washed the babe, already besotted with him, she glanced to Ulrich, trying to sweeten him up, "He likes you..."
The teeny whimpers from the newborn sent her body into response and soon, she felt her milk coming in. Even before he was brought to her breast she knew, despite worrying that Ulrich might find the addition of another newborn to their pack would be too much.
Yet, Helena remained undeterred; he was their son.
Ulrich eventually acquiesced, reminding her that the little wolf cub would have a far harder road before him, born to be omega to his alpha sister Artemis, and beta sister Ayla, not to mention the babes that still stirred inside her.
But he was theirs.
The Evermore Grimoire: Psychic Powers
Zoolingualism is the power to talk to animal life forms and understand their reactions. Those that wield this power are able to understand the speech or emotions of animal life forms. This power is quite uncommon and multifaceted. Some variations are magic based while others are natural talents or mental powers, similar to Telepathy (but limited to animals). The use of Zoolingualism is sometimes imagined as imitating animal sounds, like the barking of a dog. Zoolinguists are normally shown using their power in their native language, in an animal-language, or even mentally without any spoken words. Some wielders are able to understand animals in every imaginable way, which results in enormous knowledge and foreseeability of their actions.
Her fingers moved over a passage in one of the tombs of a book Eddard had presented her during their weekly lessons.
She had asked to have lessons outdoors as the weather had begun to warm. Veda glanced to Eddard, who was peering off, quill in hand, and then read aloud.
"Lord Eddard, you once served as Queen Elinor and Hyrum as their Queen's guard?"
Startled back into reality, he turned at her voice. "Yes, your humble majesty, I did."
Slowly, Veda read aloud, fingers moving over the text as she did, "I swear to ward the Queen, with all my strength, and give my blood for hers. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children, I shall guard her secrets, obey her commands, ride at her side, and defend her name and honor." And warm grey-blue eyes averted to him.
Eddard nodded slowly, "And I obeyed."
"You have taken lands, you have fathered children and...you will take my Auntie Tisha as your wife." She said a bit matter-of-factly.
Eddard fell silent a moment, setting the quill aside, "I have, yes..."
Veda regarded him a moment longer. She was being trained to not just be their next queen but to rule. Sitting forward, she shut the book with a snap, "If the gods and goddess herself is good, then, I shall change that." And pushed herself out of her chair.
"You will serve as My Hand. And Aunt Tisha as part of my privy council." She stated with a precise and reaffirming nod.
Inside, she had finished her tasks for the day. Most of her morning tasks now were dedicated to the menagerie of animals that Veda had collected.
She learned the names of each and every one, a story followed each, touted by her daughter, and Aviva never found a reason to think otherwise, not anymore.
It still amused her so, she was poor replacement for Veda, and the animals were still all wary of her, but as the 'bringer of feed', they tolerated her presence, some eventually following after her as she moved throughout the growing pens.
Her afternoon was a quick return home, fetching her sons, Lucien, Garrick and Jasper and took them to their studies, though Garrick was still too young, he never seemed to want be without Lucien.
Her days were long, busy, but she nary a complaint and checked on Alexandria, tucked safely into her room, in her home, even falling asleep, with tray of gruel, and a bowl of what was once warm water and a cloth.
She had had every intention of washing Alexandria off, but had fallen asleep, bent over at the foot of her bed, when she heard an inhale of air.
Sleepily, she blinked, trying to remember herself and noticed.
Blue eyes blinking.
Pippin' green eyes widened, "Alexandria!"
As that tray clattered and it's contents shattered on the floor.
"ALEXANDRIA!"
@mistress-alexandria
Aviva could not believe her sweet girl was growing up.
Veda was headstrong, determined, and her abilities to be psychically inclined to any and all animals continued to grow.
The menagerie of animals they already housed also continued to expand.
Aviva could remember when Veda had decided to present to her, her newest friend; a black spider that had once been dozing on a leaf from Aviva's healing garden, and how crestfallen Veda had been when the spider was no longer there, and she could no longer 'feel' it's presence.
Her eyes had welled up with tears and was only soothed when Aviva explained the spider's duties were not yet done and had left to complete those spider tasks.
What loomed now was the eventual ascension of Veda, and her royal place in Puzzlewood.
Aviva's stomach still clenched at the thought of what could and would come when the little princess of what would be Puzzlewood would become Queen.
A child queen, at that.
"They are well, but they need their mother..." Aviva assessed.
Alexandria slept deeply, still. Her body responded to the presence of her newborns, hands twitching to touch them.
Otherwise, Aviva thought The Princess well, physically she was still recovering from the hard labor of her twins, but she began to believe something else was afoot.
She would turn to Seth, "I have heard of women passing because of such a hard labor, but that is not Alexandria. She is alive, but simply unable to awaken."
Consulting with Seth, she whispered with him. "What if something else is afoot?"
Settling herself back into daily life and returning to her hospital and orphanage, she found herself catching up on all the stories the little children needed to tell her and reading charts after charts of the patients in the hospital and going over their care. She may have had apprentice healers, but she was head healer, and she made sure her patients received the best of care.
The Princess was one of them, so heavily pregnant she had taken to visiting her instead, often only being allowed to sit with her. She laughed inwardly, knowing full well how it felt to have another healer & midwife act as if their own expertise needed to be set aside simply because they were heavy with child.
Instead, she had taken to visiting and bringing sweets at times, gossiping about others, even when Alexandria rolled her eyes at her, she was glad to have her so close.
The fateful day of The Princess' labor, she had been there and sat with her in the early stages, massaging at her lower back, trying to get her to drink her raspberry leaf tea, making sure they did all they could to ease her through the first stage of labor. She kept her as warm as she could, feeding her a weak gruel simply to keep her energy up, but as a first time mother, they both knew Alexandria would be laboring long, and just as she had suspected when it came to first time twin births, one babe was breech.
Despite the apprentices offering to trade places with her to give her a chance to rest, her determination to remain with the Princess showed her apprentices to only come when called.
When Alexandria stopped wanting to drink and eat, her concern grew. The first babe, born facing down, but arms raised proved why Alexandria had labored so.
Covered in her and the newborn babe's fluids, she was quick to tell her, "You have brought a little girl into the world Princess…another princess is born…" and smiled at the quiet child, tiny as can be, and checked on her, "Ten toes, ten fingers…." She called and made quick work to wash and ready the babe.
"You will shrink down some Princess….'' When Alexandria went limp, she placed the newborn princess in her bassinet and carefully moved all the pillows aside and made sure to keep her airway clear.
"Princess….Princess….the gods old and new…." she whispered and called for the apprentices.
"Hot water…blankets…bring some…wormwood….and henbane- Alexandria can hate me for ruining her first milk for her babes, black cohosh as well.." she added and watched them go.
While Alexandria went in and out of consciousness, she worked with the princess, pulling her foot to her shoulder and gripping her hand and using her own body as a crux for those final pushes. Having gotten her to have a few good drinks of the black cohosh infusion, her labor pains came with more insistence. Carefully, she placed Alexandria's hand on the head of her baby. "a full head of hair, not like the first…" she murmured encouragingly and finally the babe came, small and just as quiet, she found the little one struggling to catch its first breath.
Covering Alexandria and keeping her warm, she folded the babe into her arm, sucking the fluid from its lungs and with her arm protectively over its little wrapped body, she swung downward and upward, gently breathing into its little chest, watching it rise and fall. "Come on little one….show your mother how much you want to see her." and tried again. Using her pinky to pull free anything she could feel, she tried once more, and breathed into the babe's lungs, swinging him up and down when finally the meek little whimper emitted.
Letting out a shaking laugh, she kissed the babe's forehead. "Welcome to the world little prince…."
This time she handed the second babe to the apprentices, ordering them to keep both clean and warm. "Twins like to be put together, keep them as such." and worked on Alexandria, climbing up onto the bed, mucking her way through her blood. It always looked like a lot, but this time Aviva remained concerned, and gripped The Princess’ chin, listening for her breathing, and sighed heavily.
“Nida…” and swallowed hard, “Find some parchment, quill and ink…” she called to the apprentice healer.
It was Aviva herself who washed and dressed her. The bed mat had been changed, to a clean one, filled with mellow-sweet grass. She sat with her, keeping her lips wet and was reminded of her much similar situation, weakened by the birth of Lucien, but before that…how The Princess had guided her through such a troubling pregnancy, with Veda.
“Return to your little ones Princess…” and gently placed each babe in bed with her, tucked into her, comforted by the heat and scent of her.
It was then, exhausted, not having seen Seth or her children, she glanced at the parchment before her, knowing what she needed to write, and who to.
“Caspian,
I am bereft of kind words. I have labored with Alexandria, two days on, and she has brought into the world two babes, a girl born first and a boy, tinier than his sister, but strong.
I can only wonder if you knew where your sister had traversed to, or how you did not know to come looking for her when she did not return. She was heavy with child the last you saw her I am sure.
She is not well, as I sit with her, she does not awaken. The labor has left her sapped of all energy and the longer she sleeps, the more I worry. Do not doubt her care, she is being watched by myself and myself alone. Your new niece and nephew, the little royals are well…all ten toes and ten fingers…a good omen.
She will remain in Barley, I will not have her moved until she is up and moving, and I deem it so. Tell your people Caspian, tell them to pray for their Princess, for she is good and just, and of your blood.
Prayers for your sister Caspian,
Aviva Azura Skye.”
She closed the letter, sighing heavily as she glanced at the blood-soaked bed mat, and felt a surge of protective energy. She wondered if showing Caspian how his sister had suffered, if he would listen to her pleas.
“Nida…send the mat along with the missive. Let King Caspian see what the Princess has endured.”
@caspianmaxson
Her return to Barley had been bittersweet. Her children already missed all their cousins and tiny aunts. And carrying the news to those of Barley that her mother Helena was rounding with not only one child, but a surprising second she beamed at seeing the lands she married herself to and sighed contentedly. She would never deny how much she missed being in Hillside, returning to the Manor in the Hills, her home when she was first courting and knew she had chosen well, and would remind herself, she would return to Hillside, her heart needed it. She could also not forget what her younger sister Alynne had done with the Stony HIlls & Oxbow Lakes. The people there lived hard lives, but cared and protected each other fiercely. Jezyk had proven the worthy mate, keeping up with her sister, and providing for his mighty bairn. She was thankful for the idea of being able to return one day as well. Even Alden and Daphne minding their own people in Arbor, ruling justly with good hearts, savvy minds and the strength to defend and rebuild after such tragedy. And Arendt and his sea-faring paramour, finding their lives in the isles of Barley, and Abelie. Her heart soared knowing she had returned to the fold, and finding the loving embrace of all her siblings and parents. Love had not severed her life, it had bonded it even further.
"in the tapestry of life, sisters by heart are threads that add color and meaning to the canvas"
[]Willa and Erinys have a tumblr!![]
The children certainly ran the home of Alynne & Jezyk.
Somewhere in the hills, and even along the countless oxbow lakes, one of their brood was making their way into some of their people's homes, visiting and choosing to make friends with all the little ones, barging in at the Randolph Bakery, and watching the Randolph cousins and Clea bake and sneak little treats to them.
It only encouraged them to think they were welcome everywhere they went.
Alynne beamed as Junelle shared a vibrant story of sharing a few fresh baked rolls with some young wolves.
"The wolfies did not want to mama, but I told them it was good for them, like you and 'Da tell me and..." and sighed theatrically with a roll of her eyes, "Ros, Evie, even Julien! Ula, too! And then they did!"
Alynne laughed softly, peering into her daughter's eyes, "That means you have the touch."
Junelle touched her mother's face, "Are you healed now?"
Alynne smiled and kissed her nose, "Yes, Junie, I am."
