It’s a been a long time since I posted on here. Recently I got back into TF2 so more content should be coming along when I have the time. Please enjoy this Spy piece for now.
Hey! I just wanna say that spy isn't Scout's dad. He faked being Tom Jones and saying he's Scout's father in a "last wish" way for Scout. Or at least that's how I interpret it xD just so you don't have to be "kinda" upset ♥
Ah, all the hype is rather confusing then. But it’s fine. As I said, it kind of irks me but isn’t that big of a deal since I’m not “obsessed” with everything tf2 related like I was a few years ago.
I still enjoy Sniper/Spy though and I like playing the game every now and then. :> How about that naked Sniper.
If Spy WAS Scout’s dad, if he was REALLY proud of him and if he REALLY loved him, would he have reacted the way he did when Scout came back to life? After witnessing your own SON dying in your arms one might think you’d be at least a LITTLE happy seeing him returning back to life. But nope, he showed no enthusiasm or joy whatsoever. In fact, SNIPER looked more happy to see Scout was still alive than Spy did. I agree; Spy just wanted to do something nice for Scout for the last time when he died.
You may want to re look at this panel because despite what Spy is saying his face is clearly holding back from crying. It looks to be Spy is pissed he finally told Scout in a way and the kid comes back from the dead for no reason at all.

I just want to speak up about this and say this isn’t true for a few reasons. I’ve professional worked in comics and I write myself so I have experience with how comics unfold plot points. Sniper’s ‘Mate’ was a unsaid confirmation that he knows about Spy being Scout’s father. The comic has been dropping hints as to the team also knowing, some more blunt than others. Spy being Tom Jones was for Scout’s benefit, not because Spy isn’t Scout’s father. I know it wasn’t said in a overly straight forward way but I just don’t want people thinking Spy isn’t Scout’s dad.
Spy honestly hates feeling anything that could be called a real emotion. He much prefers his normal status quo of being mildly annoyed with the world and all the mostly stupid people in it. It’s easier that way, to just throw out a sharp quip as he lights up another cigarette to smoke. He’s had his fair share of stupid in his life, the team he’s works with on a daily basis proves it over and over again. All the layers he’s added to the pile, to keep himself separate from them, has slowly been shattered over time. Spy hates them for it, hates how they soil him in ways he’s still discovering and more ways he’s yet to find. One way is how broken he’s become, it’s only made apparent by the stillness of a body on the floor.
It takes the boy a moment to realize they are standing there, the infuriating and still naked bushman along with himself. “Oh hey guys,” Scout weakly says as he slowly lifts a bloody hand to wave at them.
Quickly looking down at the boy’s stomach tells Spy there isn’t much time left and he hates how he knows this from experience. Scout still rambles on while standing at death’s door and Spy almost wants to laugh but the scene is too grim, too real in a matter of moments. Sniper confirms what he knows with just a word and Spy needs a moment. A moment to breathe, to make sense of the storm in his mind and come to terms with that he’s about to loose his son.
It says volumes about who Spy is when he’s sure the whole team knows already except his own flesh and blood. Blood, there is so much of it now on the floor and it spurs him to move. His knee is screaming in pain but Spy still kneels down before Scout, before Jeremy, and tries to tell him. There is a paleness to the boy’s skin, one he’s never seen and it makes him sick to his stomach. There is no longer a buzz of energy about Scout, just a calm acceptance of what is to come.
‘Fuck’ Spy thinks, he can’t do this.
Standing is so much more painful than bending down but he needs to get away, to somehow make this right. It only takes a moment for Spy to swallow pride and pick the disguise option he’s had waiting. His kit only does so much, changes his look and his voice but Spy still has to sell the performance. And he does.
Spy tries to explain in terms he hopes Scout will understand and tries not to cringe at the horrible tattoo, but this isn’t about his tastes. The talk doesn’t take long but Spy can’t keep it up, instead he let’s what he’s always wanted to say slip free. He might be wearing another man’s face, one Scout would love more than him, but he means it when Spy says he’s proud of him. As Jeremy’s eyes shut with his head turned towards him is when Spy thinks he’s never held his son before. Not in any way that’s mattered.
The time for masks is over now and Spy’s disguise evaporates in a quick burst of smoke. He wants so badly to stay in this moment, to feel real pain and let it wash him away but just knowing that damn bushman is still watching stops him. Carefully Spy lays the still body in his arms down and stands up on shaky legs. There is nothing more Spy can do now so he has no other choice but to move on. The board under his arm is stable but his world feels anything but that. Having seen the whole world go to shit before Spy knows how to survive it, knows to not stop pushing forward.
It’s easy to fall back into making dry jokes and Spy is being honest with Sniper, he really could use a weapon right now. Anything would really do as his pain become anger, then rage at whoever took away what was his. The silent list starts to form in Spy’s mind but comes to a halt with a barely audible cough. Both Sniper and Spy stop moving, they look back and find an outreaching Scout still alive.
The shock that hits Spy is harder than Heavy could ever strike him. He has to bite his own damn lips and demand his face to hold, to not break from the relief that wants to gut him alive where he stands. Letting go of the board Spy hobbles over to Scout and stares down at him. He gets back a weak smile as the boy looks between him and the bushman.
“H-How long was I sleep?” he mutters softly. “Must have nodded off.”
“Not long,” say Spy calmly and he finds himself amazed at his own acting skills.
Sniper comes to his side and reaches down to help lift Scout up but Spy turns and shoots him a sharp glare. The bushman backs off, knowing better than to cross him.
“I can handle this,” he says and bends down to help Scout to his feet.
They both grumble in pain but there is no way Spy isn’t helping his son out of here. Busted knee or not. Outside Spy finds the normal chaos he should alway expect but never seems able to imagine anything as creative as he encounters. Although Solider being naked and covered in honey isn’t new.
After reinforcements, and thankfully clothes and weapons drop in, is when Scout pats Spy’s hand. It startles him for a moment but he thankfully doesn’t jump. “Hey,” the boy says sounding more like his usual self. “I got this, thanks man.”
Letting go of Jeremy is hard but he’s never been his to hold on to, only just watch. They part and keeping true to his character, Spy steps further away and pulls out a fresh new smoke. Putting his back to the new fighting starting up, he hides the quiver in his hands and wills it away. There is still work to be done and he can’t give in now, can’t be weak for a moment. Spy puts his mask back on and turns to join the group lining up behind Miss Pauling. He takes his place next to Scout and plays his part flawlessly.
Spy is a dead beat dad and Scout surely spent most of his life wishing for a dad that was never around. With Spy telling Scout as Tom Jones that Tom is his father, and not him, was giving his son the father he always wanted. Spy wanted to give his son someone better than him, a father Scout could be proud of.
This coming from a man who is all about his ego, who is all about how much better he is than everyone else. This man admits he isn’t a good father and tries in his warped way to give his child someone better to be the man he wants in his life. Who has longed for.
I honestly believe Spy wasn’t trying to hide who he really was, just rather admit he’s not good enough and provided something better. Yes a lie, but that’s who and what he does, lie so skillfully to accomplish his goals. This time his goal was to make his son’s last moments a good one.
Real talk: Spy wanted that cigarette actually because he knew he was going to have to watch a naked Sniper drag his bloody ass across a ledge right in front of him and have to play it cool. A++ on acting sir. Then it got worse cause he had to watch him shoot the other Sniper with his junk hanging right there.
Also please fuck me up about Spy being Scout’s dad. I love Spy is just an asshole with a heart. That he’ll bitch and moan but when the important stuff happens, he swallows his pride and does what needs to be done. That had to kill him on the inside to be Tom Jones but he did it to make his boy happy. Fuck.
