âThe security system is up and running every inch of this house is covered besides the bathrooms obviously.â Brad stated, putting the iPad down. He wanted to make sure every window, every door was covered. Just everything. Maybe he was being over cautious or something but with what happened to them all. âHow is Joce liking her room? And how are you feeling?â
âOkay, good.â Sophie nodded as she moved into the room. It made her feel more at ease at least. It was the way it had to be for them all. âSheâs loving it, actually.â She said. âThough sheâs still a little unsure about sleeping alone.â Everything was still new for her but she was adapting quickly, probably because of her age. âIâm fine.â Sophie shrugged a little, moving to sit on their new couch. She checked her phone - five texts from her dad - and then looked back at Brad. âIâm just tired. Iâm always tired right now.â
Being the small idiot she is, Joan accidentally left the keys in her car while she was getting something to drink from Coffee Bean. â Son of a bitch.â She muttered after getting to her car and noticing the keys were inside, â I canât believe I did thisâŠâ @secretsummerstartersâ
Sophie was taking Jocelyn on a walk. The little girl just couldnât get over the world and being out in it, finally. It was all still surreal to Sophie and people were refusing to stop staring but she was doing her best to push through. âYou okay?â She wondered, noticing the woman nearby.

âYeah, Iâm fine.â Sophie sighed. âThanks.â

Maybe it was a mistake coming here. The trail was soon, and with what happened this month being so close. Being alone wasnât something that Emma wanted. Still it was surprise to see Sophie there and answering the door. âThank you.â She gave her a polite smile before moving inside, closing the door behind her. Looking over at the fellow red head for a moment. âYou probably have questions about Charlie and I and Imogen and I and Nina and I. And I will gladly explain them all to you whenever you are ready.â In more than one way they were family. âI just need to know where you want to start out and I donât want to give you a information overload.â
Sophie felt awkward standing there. The entire situation was bizarre - hell, her standing here at all was bizarre. She shrugged when Emma thanked her and closed the door carefully. âUh. I donât know.â Sophie admitted. âEverything is different and everything is hard to understand. So.â She shrugged. âBut tell me about my dad.â Charlie hadnât told her much and she hadnât asked, she had had other things on her mind. She wasnât entirely sure how Emma fit in to all this.

Emma was sure that Sophie was at therapy. Charlie had mentioned it the other day when he stopped by. And now it was turn to do a drop by because she wanted to go over some stuff with him. The trial was less than two months away. That also meant that it had been almost two years since him. There was a lot going on with Brad sneaking out all the time, that didnât help her wifeâs worry. But they had the sharing plan going on along with the find my friends app. Which she was sure Brad could probably disable but he hadnât yet luckily which gave her wife some ease. She dropped the twins off at daycare, picking up some stuff from the Call Centre. It was weird having a building named after her not so dead cousin now. But she didnât have the heart to rename it either. But maybe she would leave that up to Sophie. Sighing a little bit, as she moved over to the door. She lifted her hand up and knocked on it. Waiting and expecting to see Charlie when the door opened. Seeing Sophie though was a bit of a surprise. âHi.â She gave her a small smile. âUmmâis myâCharlie home?â It was weird not calling him her dad but she didnât know what to call him in front of Sophie. But she didnât want to make things anymore weirder than what they were right now.Â
Sophie was supposed to be at therapy. Charlie had been going to drop her off and everything but her therapist had needed to reschedule, which was something of a relief honestly. Then heâd had to go off for a work thing and she said sheâd be fine in the house for a bit. She noticed Emma was probably about to say my dad and she bit her lip a little, shaking her head. âUh, no... not yet.â She said, hesitating. âHe... should be back in a bit, you can... come in and wait?â
thisxpoisonâ:
Brad was sure that Charlie knew as well, but didnât say anything and he was thankful for that. He had been there everyday since the hospital and even sneaking into their room at the hospital. It might have been easier if Jamie had let them both die. But he hadnât and neither had -A. Now they are left with the fallout of that. Honestly it hurt him to see her like this and he was willing to do whatever it took to at least see her smile again.
Everything seemed foreign to him. His sisterâs place with her wife. That was so weird to him even think about. His little sister was married, his parents and uncle were actually sticking around. The only things that made sense to him were in fact the two people in this room. Sophie and Jocelyn. The most important people in his life.Â
Listening to her, he nodded his head a little bit. âWell Iâm here always for you.â He told her. âMakes sense. My parents want me to see someone also because they want what is best for me.â He moved to sit down next to her now. placing his arm around her. âDid you umâdid you want to go visit her today? We can go after your dad gets back. See if he can watch Joce, or drop her off at my sisters.â
Sophie nodded. âI know.â She offered him a little smile, because she knew he wasnât going anywhere, that she could tell him anything. Itâs just so strange. You spend years wishing for nothing but the outside and then you get it and it doesnât make you happy. Why was that? It was more difficult than youâd think to adjust back to normality and it didnât seem fair.
She hesitated at his question, shrugging. She knew what he meant but honestly she was dreading it. It wasnât fair either, that she wasnât here. âUm.â She looked over at Jocelyn and found herself nodding. âYeah... sure.â She supposed she had to face it sooner or later and she might as well not put it off. âIâm sure dad will watch her.â Ruby had taken her sisters and brother to her motherâs today or something so he wouldnât be overwhelmed with kids. It was hard to get used to.

-Aâs little gift near the end had hurt - seeing the pictures of everyone, the ways their lives had moved on without her. Now she was in it and everything was different. Everyone was different. Her mother had come back when sheâd been rescued, of course, but Sophie kept telling her to go back to Spain. She was still with Grant, though Emma Woods was here now apparently. Sophie hadnât seen her yet. Her dad and Ruby⊠three children now. Three. She had two baby sisters and a baby brother. And also⊠Emma Williamson. Sophie was still confused about a lot of it, there was... too much to catch up on quite frankly and it hurt her head. Everything was different, nothing felt normal andâŠ. she couldnât even go back to her house because her dad had sold it. Heâd made her a nice room up in the attic on such short notice and Sophie felt guilty for not feeling happier, for not being more grateful about it. He didnât seem to mind but she also knew he didnât always show everything outwardly. She was padding around the house while Jocelyn slept, feeling anxious, staying away from the windows. The cat was following her around, the one she hadnât even been sure would still be alive if she ever got out of that place. She was dressed in big baggy clothes and when the door went, she thought maybe her dad had forgotten his keys. She remembered heâd always done that sort of thing. God, sheâd missed him so much. When she peeked through the spyhole and then opened it however, she came face to face with Emma Williamson. âOh... um. Hi?â
thisxpoisonâ:
Every since being released from the hospital, he had been sneaking out and over to Charlieâs. All the shit they found out while they were in the hospital, there was no way that he could leave Sophieâs side and Jocelynâs. They needed him and he needed them. The worst news he had ever given his fiancĂ©e was the fact that Kelly was dead. It hit him as well, but not as hard. They had never actually been in a relationship it was just physical. But still he felt sad at least. Maybe it was because she had been Sophieâs friend. Which was why he wanted to bring her to visit Kellyâs grave at least.
Things hadnât been easy, he was still trying to figure out where he belonged and what he was going to do now. Nina was basically a pro at the restaurant and he didnât want to mess with that. Maybe they both could run it or something. Even though he wasnât even sure if he wanted to do that anymore. Watching Jocelyn playing outside, it brought a small smile to his lips. It was good to see her outside playing and actually being able to be a kid. The stuff that Sophie and himself got to do she could now do. Even if he was tense and on guard.Â
When it was time to come in, he followed after her. Heading straight up to the attic, passing Charlie on the way, giving him a small nod. Moving inside after Jocelyn, he noticed Sophie on the bed and how the words sounded from her. âJust playing outside.â He moved over to the bed and sat down on it. Placing his hand onto her arm gently. âTell me how you are and donât lie to me.â Lying to everyone else was one thing but lying to each other was just something they didnât do.
Sophie was pretty sure her dad knew whenever Brad was doing his sneaking thing, and just didnât say anything. It would be so like him. Sophie hated that she had been forced to miss out on all this time and stuff and... life. Sometimes she wished Jamie had let her die in those woods, it might have been easier.
She shrugged at Bradâs question, watching Jocelyn move to the other side of the room to find her doll. Sophieâs dad had gone a bit all out in the shopping which had also hurt her heart because it was so familiar and yet so foreign at the same time.
âIâll be fine.â She said to him, moving so she could sit with her back against the wall, looking over towards Jocelyn and then back to Brad. âI just donât feel right.â She was flat and sad and it was all just affecting her. Like it had all hit her at once. âDadâs making me go to that therapist tomorrow.â
