John Everett Millais (1829–1896, England)
Painted scenes from the the 1850s
Millais was an English painter and illustrator, and founding member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. His most famous and appreciated paintings come from the 1850s and became influential on later generations of painters both for their technique and aesthetic. His later works focused on portraiture and landscapes, a marked change from his historical and scene-based painting that made him famous, and these works are generally considered to represent a decline in form.
