you can tell how white-centric parts of the handmaid's tale fandom are by the way they talk about hannah.

no, daisy isn’t like june. she’s like luke. she sees the injustice, wants to fight it, and chooses to join the resistance. but she isn’t a victim of gilead’s oppression in the way june and hannah are.

hannah is set to follow in her mother's footsteps. both june and hannah are victims of gilead. both have to find their strength before they can fight back. people say hannah was too passive in s1, but so was june. that’s literally part of her arc.

the difference is that now the "saviour," the freedom fighter, is a woman of colour, and suddenly y’all can’t accept that.

the system will ultimately fall at the hands of its victims. they will be the ones to save themselves. and while daisy is a great, authentic character, and she will do a lot to bring down gilead, the message isn’t the same if she becomes the leader of the revolution. it shifts the story away from the people gilead oppressed most and back toward someone who, unlike june and hannah, was never forced to survive it.
