In my humble opinion
“He hesitated, remembering something Finnikin had said to him on their journey. That somehow, even in the worst of times, the tiniest fragments of good survive. It was the grip in which one held those fragments that counted.”
Melina Marchetta, "Finnikin of the Rock"
for being a total idiot about women, Finnikin is actually pretty smooth ngl
After suddenly DNFing my current read at 62%, I have discovered that I am suddenly and without any warning burned the fuck out on contemporary romance.
I need recs for fantasy and sci fi romance. Give me that sweet, sweet world building please. And characters with real chemistry. Doesn’t matter if they’re the same species.
I loved ACOTAR and Crescent City. I loved Strange Love by Ann Aguirre. I loved the Grey Magic trilogy by Jeffe Kennedy. I loved Radiance by Grace Draven.
I'm sorry if I recommend one you've already read, I can't remember which of my book tumblr people has read what but-
Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells - five novellas, then one or two full length novels, they're sci-fi and HILARIOUS
Magic in Manhattan series by Allie Therin - urban fantasy set in 1920s New York, very cute (her newest book Liar City is also very good)
Wraith Kings series by Grace Draven - fantasy, friends to lovers arranged marriage
The Chocolate Kiss by Laura Florand - straightforward modern romance novel. The whole series is to die for but Chocolate Kiss is my favorite!
hi anon!! i’ve heard of murderbot but haven’t read them — i’ve been loving sci-fi romance lately (extremely unlike me) so i will have to check them out!! always looking for more urban fantasy so the allie therin series sounds fantastic. i’ve read radiance and i really liked it but i ended up losing interest by the sequel :/ and the chocolate kiss — this is hilarious i literally just grabbed a copy of this like an hour ago because it showed up on my feed randomly so i’m glad to know it comes recommended !!!!!! thank you so much for sending these AND with blurbs/details. highly appreciate you <3
Grace Draven's post today about having cervical cancer and being scared about paying for treatment and caring for her family while she is unable to write filled me with such sorrow. Her beautiful stories have carried me through such dark times in my life. I read Radiance to Martin during his final week; Grace's words transported him to a world removed from cancer's tight grasp. I hope with all of my heart that Grace pulls through.
What is Romantasy?
Romantasy is a niche genre of books that has exploded in the past 5 years thanks to TikTok, combining a unique blend of romance and fantasy elements. This author has been a pretty avid 'romantasy' reader, long before it ever was thing or had a proper name and so I thought this would be a fun post to make based on books I've read. If you like to read and have any recommendations, please leave them in the comments! :)
Fair Warning: Most of these are adult books and contain graphic, explicit content. Make sure to look into them and see if they're something you'd like before picking it up.
My Recommendations
♈️ Aries - Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
♉️ Taurus - A Court of Thorns & Roses by Sarah J. Maas
♊️ Gemini - Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross
♋️ Cancer - Wolfsong by TJ Klune
♌️ Leo - Serpent and Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent
♍️ Virgo - The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
♎️ Libra - Radiance by Grace Draven
♏️ Scorpio - The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen
♐️ Sagittarius - A Cursed Kiss by Jenny Hickman
♑️ Capricorn - The Winter King by C. L. Wilson

Fantasy Romance Recommendations Pt.1
I’m a big fan of Fantasy Romance books but I’ve noticed that a lot of recommendations lists have the same books over and over again. Nothing against Sarah J Maas, Jennifer Armentrout and Holly Black, but I have read their books already and I’m looking for new suggestions. And thus, I decided to make my own little list (with help from @housebaylor and @shirewalker). Maybe it will help someone somewhere. XD ***Some of the books listed here are not Romance novels officially but all have romance and have HFN or HEA endings Fantasy Romances The Fallen Empire Trilogy by Grace Draven The Kraelian Empire has ruled with an iron fist for centuries, its grip unyielding until the power of three women, and the men devoted to them, break it.
The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden Vasya Petrovna is a young woman gifted with the Sight which allows her to see spirits who inhabits the world. The arrival of Christianity spells trouble for her and the world of the spirits at large. This story has her rebel against her fate as a woman in medieval Russia, go on a great adventure and meet amazing characters. One of my favourite.
Nettle and Bone by T. Kingfisher A subversive take on Fairytales! After years of seeing her sisters suffer at the hands of an abusive prince, Marra―the shy, convent-raised, third-born daughter―has finally realized that no one is coming to their rescue. No one, except for Marra herself.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. Celia and Marco’s beautiful story of challenges, love and magic. Beautiful haunting magic. Radiance by Grace Draven Two people brought together by the trappings of duty and politics will discover they are destined for each other, even as the powers of a hostile kingdom scheme to tear them apart. The Bird and The Sword by Amy Harmon Magic is forbidden and gifted people are sentenced to death. Lark, a voiceless young woman, has a gift she must keep hidden. The day her mother was killed, she told lark’s father she wouldn’t speak again, and she told him if Lark’s died, he would die too. Then she predicted the king would trade his soul and lose his son to the sky. A Fate of Wrath and Flame by K.A. Tucker Portal Fantasy! Gifted thief Romeria is transported into another world into the body of a treacherous princess. Romeria is plunged into a startling realm of opposing thrones, warring elven, and elemental magic she cannot begin to fathom. Only read the first book so far Married to Magic Trilogy by Elise Kova Shared Universe, Fantasy Romance, Stand Alone Novels About Young Women and their Unexpected Romances with Magical Men Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa Callypso Lillis is a siren with a very big problem, one that stretches up her arm and far into her past. For the last seven years she’s been collecting a bracelet of black beads up her wrist, magical IOUs for favors she’s received. Everyone knows that if you need a favor, you go to the Bargainer and everyone knows that sooner or later he always collects. Only read the first book Promise of Darkness by Bec McMaster Princess. Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik Multiple POVs fairytale Miryem gains a reputation for being able to turn silver into gold. brishen upon, unknowingly, meeting his betrothed: that is clearly not a living being but a parasitic anomaly
Night blooming flowers ✨🌸🌙
If you haven’t read Radiance by Grace Draven yet, please let this art be your sign to give it a try
I've talked about this before and I will talk about it until I find another book that makes me feel the same way this one did. Brishen and Ildiko are arranged to get married to solidify a pact between their two kingdoms, they meet on the day of the wedding and become fast friends by pretty much insulting each other (I promise it makes sense). The wold building is solid, the little bit of plot that becomes more relevant in the second book is intriguing and the way the main couple gets used to how the other looks as the story progresses is so cool to read.
As always, check TWs before you read.
