Tonight is the final battle Adrianal and Felo'thore have under the Sunguard banner. The boys are going to fight their hardest to stop the machinations of the void from destroying their homeland and… retire, hopefully to more peaceful times. It has been a riveting 5 years writing and arting with @ocarina-of-what.
I’m so excited to take what started with these two, and write their hearts in our original story, @drumsofatelaer.
A time to say goodbye and good luck
Hi all,
I have been thinking about writing this letter for some time. It’s been difficult for me to put down in words how I feel so I forced myself this morning to sit and write it up. In October, TSG will be turning 10 years old and I have been the GM of this guild for almost all of those 10 years. Taking up the mantle at 19 years old till I’m almost turning 30 in March, this guild has defined almost all of my young adult life. With it, I feel as if I own all the successes the Sunguard has for making an inclusive environment of excellent role players whose passions match with their creativity. I also own all the mistakes.
In October I am going back to university to continue my educational journey that stopped roughly around the same time as I became the guild leader of the Sunguard. While the two are definitely not a casualty of each other, they are more than a coincidence. Leadership, WoW, and roleplay served as an escape from a difficult period in my life. I can say that being a guild leader helped me grow to be an empathetic, caring, and accountable person.
Now that it’s been ten years, I believe it’s time to give someone else the shot of leadership. I don’t write these things down lightly as I have always cared so much about the Sunguard and the guild has so much of my blood sweat and tears. My interest in WoW, unfortunately, has come and gone with this expansion and there isn’t much I can do to pull myself from that feeling. As the campaign wraps up in its final week so, I will be making final notice of my stepping down.
The officers and I have discussed some decisions and the next steps will be made public after the end of Phoenix Wars. Whatever decision is made by the officers I request that you honor and respect it.
The normal things that happen after a leader pass the mantle. All the items in the bank, ownership of the forums (which I would most likely become locked and closed) transfer to whoever needs it. The discord can remain open for a time but I’d prefer a new server to take its place.
I know many people will be disappointed in hearing this, but know that I mean well in this decision but it’s time for me to move onto something different in my life and the Sunguard takes its place in my past. Something I am insanely proud of and something I will think on fondly. You have been the dearest of friends and I hope you all stay in touch despite everything.
Always yours,
Felthier
[Dreadlord’s Fangs]
Crafted in the dark forges of the Black Temple, the Dreadlord’s Fangs were awarded to the Dread Commander Blackheart by the Betrayer himself. These enchanted glaives are perfectly balanced and ever sharp and secrets tell those who are cut by them have their very essence leeched away.
[Mystical Weapon]
[Reach: +5ft range to basic attacks/healing and abilities] [+1 to Mod damage on basic attacks and abilities] [+2 to Max damage on basic attacks and abilities]
[Banner of the Dying Sun]
When the call to arms went out to all loyal Illidari in the events known as the Legionfall, Dread Commander Blackheart had commissioned a banner to be woven and imbued with the powers of the various factions that make up their order. Now carried into battle by the zealous demon hunters, it servers a rally point for all those who fight in the Cabal.
[Mystical Banner]
[+10 to Max damage] [+5 to Mod damage] [+15 to Troop Total]
Sunguard System Update: 5.7
Another big update has come out that primarily looks at prestige classes and commander mode. Expect a few minor updates to follow shortly after. All the information in the changelog can be found here!

Embertree Has Fallen
It was a beautiful day in Embertree. The sun had been shining down for another thaw. While Quel’Thalas had been in eternal spring, there was something different about experiencing spring coming. Feeling the warmth on one’s skin after what felt like years of cold gave a new appreciation for what was had. Not a cloud was in the sky, the breeze was gentle, the sun was warm, and the grass was green and fresh.
That is what made it so jarring.
It was a beautiful day, but the day was anything but beautiful. There should have been birds twittering about themselves and deer grazing, but all the animals had fled to the west. Even the horse that Baclen Highstar, Captain of the Guard, rode on was uneasy. It did not want to be beneath its master, riding through the meadows of Embertree. It wanted to flee. It was smarter than Baclen, but Baclen had a job to do.

I've always wondered, did you have to work at recruiting for a while to get where you all are today or was the Sunguard a sort of "Build it and they will come" where you just attracted people naturally over time?
We have always been a ‘build it and they will come’ type of guild. At times you may have seen us out and around Silvermoon and of course our forum/tumblr/twitter posts, but we are much more of a ‘see what we offer and if you want that apply’ design.
Right now we are in a hiatus period so we’re not accepting new applications.
I commissioned the beautiful @days-e to do a very indulgent pic of my always main OC, Esme Sunshard.
Thank you SO much for this! Honestly, y’all, they’re a dream to work with and I couldn’t recommend them enough! Beautiful, beautiful style!

Going to admit I'm loving the new civil war story going on,, .o .
How do you feel about people writing stories about the events of your guild that are not actually in it? Not major ones but things like character reactions to events or how they might have affected them.
Anyone is welcome to participate in our story lines!

How quickly things turn.
The roar of battle rung out around her. Triumphant. They were going to win. They would push back. Merriena would be safe, thanks to Thinariel. They would find Ashiserus. Everything would be
p e r f e c t.
The summoning rung out a splintering force of energy that nearly knocked her from her feet. Perhaps no one else felt it. Was it her mind? Was she imagining it?
They roared inside her mind. Louder than They had in years. Every inch of her ached, stung, b u r n e d with cold fire. Hands clamped around her head.
Out out push them out don’t listen don’t listen -
My love. Firewing!
Different voices calling out - through the muddled fog. Enough to bring her back to herself. Back to her body. Back to the cold snow and ice and the stinging wind against her cheeks.
RUN FIREWING.
Sanarissa has never heard Her voice fearful.
She runs.
The cliffside offers a challenge. She’s already weak. So weak. The force of everything barely has her standing. There’s no time to go another way.
Sana leaps.

Her head strikes against the rock of the cliffside hard. She goes still. Unmoving against the snow, blood pooling where she lands.
Consciousness drifts. The last thing she feels is hands on her. Dragging her. Where? Into the dark? Into the endless cold?
The Great Eye watches. Orange. Unyielding. Even as it all goes black, it Sees. She cannot escape from it.
Not anymore.

She had long ceased holding the claim of a ranger beyond a simple technicality as well as the rank earned by centuries of long, honourable service, but had maintained her ability to shoot very well when the time called for it. The battles ahead now that the supposed ‘King’ Merik of the Quel’dorei Reborn had been betrayed by his own would tax Cere’thien considerably without preparation, and thus, the woman had made a choice.
There was no one that could help her, now and as it was, she had caused this difficulty by trusting the wrong Druidic spirit. Not all of them were good, and not all of them were kind, nor gave of their gifts and magic without a grave price. Despite that, she still saw the twisted, Void Archangels in her thoughts the night before, unable to forget them. The sounds of the Archon calling for a retreat were still sharp in her ears even after the fact. The personal problem she had of a druidic spirit haunting her, so to speak, would have to wait until the greater issue of Quel’thalas being invaded, was dealt with.
There was a tradition that House Blackwood had kept once and abandoned, that the ranking Ranger-Lord was responsible for slaying those with their own hands and weapons that did not choose to hold to the law. Rather than allowing her Magister-Captain attend to the bandits upon her own property that had refused to repent for their crimes and were on fourth and fifth strikes, she decided that she would end their lives in the old way, and thus, follow through upon the deal that had been forced upon her by The Messenger.
The wind howled, and the retired High Confessor grit her teeth against it, and let out a low snarl. A line of ten men and women stood still, waiting in solemn and fearful silence. Each one trembling as it came to their turn keen to beg for why they should be allowed another chance, content to laugh and die like the sociopaths some of them were, or simply threats to her rule of law.
They stood against the gleaming white stone walls of the moongates to prevent them from running. Those that tried to run would be struck down by the latent power that had been directed to work against their presence. She hated it, and felt sick; had since the night that the creature had come to her, and been unable to rip her fully into his realm. Sick, and terrified that she’d die, or end up captive in the pocket of the Dream he controlled with no one to hear her, no one to save her because she had failed to save herself. So for now, Cere’thien would do exactly that.
“Are you certain, my Lady, that this is what you will do?”
“I said that four days ago, Captain Oakweave,” Cere’thien replied in a steely, steady voice that she didn’t feel. Each shot would have to be perfect for minimal suffering, or none if she could manage such a feat. Beyond time spent checking on Lord Firestorm, she’d shot against moving targets until her hands were raw with blisters and she was nearly choking on her own enraged tears. She speared the Magister-Captain a cold look a final time. “Do you question your liege? Do you question my rights?” Even if she didn’t mean to, Cere’thien growled the words, her blue eyes glowing slightly with the rise of arcane magic in the air twined with a brush of a roughened druidic kiss in a perfect pairing.
The man’s face, weathered from his position, and centuries of work, went white in response. She’d frightened him before, but now … Oakweave shook his head, only long discipline being the reason he didn’t break and run from her then, his bowels on the edge of turning to water because he knew that she knew it, but it was worse when she smiled sweetly at him. The man’s lips parted, and he licked them. “No, Lady Blackwood. There is no cause for question, I was only—“
“Seeking to address me in a familiar way because I am not my father or grandfather? Worried that the little girl I was once cannot handle a simple summary execution? Would you like my foot permanently lodged between your asscheeks, Captain Oakweave? I cannot imagine either of us would, but such would be awfully unpleasant for you, I believe.”
They stared each other down, and the Magister-Captain bowed his head. “N-no …”
Cere’thien grinned, and laughed softly, the sound a soft, contralto raspiness from the cold. “Well! I am pleased to hear it, good sir. Carry on, and make sure they don’t move. Let’s get this shit over with,” she snapped with alacrity and irritation riding her. The double recurve Blackwood bow was a tradition in her family, and the one she used currently had belonged to her grandmother. It had the most arcane imbuing to offer the lady an edge to her shooting. The arrows were her own armour piercing variety that exploded arcane through the inside of the body in a single fluid motion without making the slightest bit of waste and could be recalled with a simple spell after use.
Waste, after all, was one of those things the lady simply did not like, and in one way or another, each of these men and women was many times guilty of it. She settled the bow into position with her right hand even as she squared her stance, and allowed the world to fall away into whispers of greying dreams. “Bring the first one in range,” she murmured, the fingers of her left hand a fraction of a second faster were the reason for the unorthodox arrangement. Most people tended to shoot right-handed.
The first of the twenty was tall, and brown-haired, with scars upon the right side of his face where he had fought someone and likely won. He had been allowed, like all of them, to keep their armour to die in. She was not heartless, after all. Each had expressed words some time ago, but they were always given something final to say if wished. Several of House Blackwood’s Assassin Guard looked on in interest, quietly. While several had been lost in the attempt to save Shallowbrook and Havenblaze, there were quite a few thousand more where those came from. Currently, there were twenty-five observers. “Have you words to say, lawbreaker?” They were never addressed by name, in the end. This one laughed sharply, grinning. “I have no regrets. I’d do it all again if I could.”
Cere’thien listened, stone-faced, stomach still churning. Fuck people that made her life difficult more than it needed to be, and that included that evil monstrosity, Palecrown. Liar, liar. “You have been sentenced to death for a litany of crimes, prime of which is banditry during warfare. Do you understand this?”
He spat in response, and a blindfold was placed over the man’s head.
“I see. We’ll assume with that colourful display that you do. An arrow at the ready!” The Magister-Captain called, to distract the man being fired upon, while Cere’thien had already drawn, nocked, and fired in less than two seconds. The arcane sped through his body and stopped the heart and breathing, and she spoke the words under her breath as it did. “Tribute to the Messenger, this vile soul is yours to take. May it soothe your wrath,” she growled.
Time seemed to stop at that moment, just as she was watching two of her own move the first body, and two of the men in the line began to cry, understanding there would now be no reprieve or further forgiveness of their crimes.
“Beautiful Lady. You give me a gift,” he crooned in her ear, looming over Cere’thien’s shoulder in spectral form. No one else could see him, she knew, so she remained very still as The Messenger laughed, and stroked her left cheek, renewing her healing power with its first real, truly strong essence in some time. The noblewoman’s jaw twitched with deep anger. “Next.” She ignored her tormenter and moved on to the second felon. It was, after all, the best thing to do with nightmares.
Ignore them.
“More,” said The Messenger, once again. He rested his clawed, immortal hands upon her hips, but still, no one could see him save for Cere’thien.
Or so she thought.

Wisps
The snow had not stopped falling. Nature cared little for the machinations of man, for chaos and death. Slowly each flake fell, a beautiful, pure blanket, one that hid the twisted bodies and blood soaked soil. Now it was almost restful, every sound muffled by the soft banks of powder.
She was a lone figure against the snow, back straight even against the biting cold. As Lirelle passed the mounds that once held life, one moved, stirred by the sound of her passage. Her steps stopped, her gaze going to the man in his shredded blue armour. Almost a corpse, but still desperately clinging to life. She watched for a moment more, starting to carry on, but something made her hesitate.
You should help. A voice spoke up from within, but it was not hers. He needs you.
It was familiar, the only echo of warmth she had felt since her return. She sucked a breath into useless lungs, so great was her relief.
You came.
Couldn’t help myself.
You know there’s nothing I can do for him.
There is. His suffering is not over. Help him.
Why?
Because no one deserves to die alone.
And a quick death at my hands is better than peacefully in the cold?
Violence is a tool. A single lethal strike is more merciful than death by a thousand cuts.
Crouching in the snow, she reached for the man, eager shadows already spilling like ink over her fingertips. It took barely a moment, a flickering spark snuffed out by the encompassing dark.
Is this where you went? After every fight?
Those at death’s door often need an usher.
Is that you… us?
I was just an usher. You, you’re Lady Death.
No, I’m not.
There was a chuckle, old, familiar, and full of warmth. Then there was nothing.
She reached out once more to close cloudy blue eyes before continuing her trek, her progress interrupted each time she came upon more breathing bodies, both red and blue. A word or a touch was all it took, and in her wake was silence and calm.
Even as the sun set, the haunted fields held no terror, for Death does not fear ghosts.
