My friend Lyuba was stabbed to death a few days ago. She was already a mom to two precious littles and was pregnant with a third. He was born via an emergency delivery just after the heinous crime occurred and died moments later. The two surviving children no longer have a mama. There’s a link in my bio to help these kiddos out. So far the family has reached 50% of their goal. Let’s get them to beyond 100%. Please, please, please, take a moment to give what you can. // This also seems like the right time to address a few things. The first being, domestic violence is real. And not okay. Another thing that’s not okay is victim blaming. As I scroll past commentaries on this story, I keep seeing “why didn’t she just leave?” Here’s the thing, folks, victims seldom have the choice to “just leave.”By asking that you are putting the responsibility of violence avoidance on the victim instead of the abuser. Rather than blaming the victim for staying, the better question to ask is, “why is this sub-human beating, stabbing, killing another person?” If the thought “why didn’t she just leave?” crossed your mind, you are partially the problem. It’s time to reevaluate how we as a society view these sorts of things.
