I try a new angle on my feedback to ABC. Here it is.
One positive thing in the last episode of 9-1-1 is there were interactions between characters who have never interacted on screen before. We saw conversations between Athena & Karen, Eddie, Hen, & Karen, and Buck & Aunt Peppa. This is a very welcomed change which feels overdue, considering the show is already in its 8th season. Still, it's better late than never.
In regards of expanding the dynamics among the characters, I think it's necessary to also give Buck and Eddie each a permanent significant other. What's the point of building connections between their love interests with the other main characters if the relationships are temporary. Buck and Eddie had been in various relationships for years, but nothing was stuck. Buck was always dumped by his partners, except Taylor (he dumped her instead). Eddie always hurt his partners, because he couldn't forget his dead wife. Most of their past relationships are forgetable. I've already forgotten how most of their previous partners look like. This shtick has gotten tiring already. I'm not willing to watch the same story being told again and again with new forgetable faces.
Tommy fits the bill perfectly as Buck's significant other. He's the most caring compared to Buck's past lovers, and Buck seems to love him the most. Their chemistry is off the chart. Buck's past relationship couldn't compete with this one. On top of that, Tommy has a great relationship with the rest of 118 family. He has been a good friend for Chimney and Hen before he knew Buck. Chimney even saved Tommy's life once. Tommy knows Athena and respects Bobby. He's also been Eddie's friend before Buck and him got together. It will be easy to have Tommy interact with the other member of the 118 family without Buck's presence. Having Tommy as Buck's partner will further expand the dynamics among characters in the show.
I wish the same thing for Eddie. I hope Eddie's new girlfriend will also involve in his work, not only in his private time, so this new character could easily interact with other members of the 118 family. Perhaps she would be Athena's new work partner, since Athena has said that she was willing to mentor someone at work. Or she could be a new dispatcher mentored by Maddie, and they become close friends later.
The new dynamics displayed on the last episode are much needed changes, which should have been done much earlier. Please don't let the show fall back to the same cycles. I have seen the same stories repeated for 8 years already. Enough is enough.
This is EXCELLENT!! Thank you for sending in feedback!
