"The bread stares back at her. Each roll perfectly rounded, the butter that glistened on their tops long dried out. They practically look the same as when he dropped them off for her. Still, would chip a tooth if she bit into it? Had crust turned cold and hard after a day of neglect or would still carry the warmth of its gifter? The curiosity almost propels her arm forward, reaching toward the bowl. Almost. Instead, she lay there, a statue of her own demise. Ready to rest her exhausted eyes. Ready to face the dead once more."

Katniss is stuck in a deep depression and Peeta's efforts to bring her back to life fail. Of course, he is the reason why she is in it in the first place, so he shouldn't be so surprised.

"She hears what they say. Their whispers as they walk by, hand in hand. She sees it in the tight smiles they offer as payment when he hands them bread every week. The types of smiles that wobble on a fence between terrified and uncomfortable.

He never seems to notice. Continues to distribute bread with a smile. Continues to hum as he walks down the street. Continues to greet people who walk by, even if they scurry like mice when they pass.

Well, if he doesn't notice, what good would it be to bring it up? It would only make their day worse. And that would be a shame. Because things have been so good lately."

Set during the beginning of Mockingjay and alternating flashbacks to his past, Coriolanus Snow struggles to quell the rebellion as the districts start to fall to District 13. Haunted by the past and desperate to maintain his power, Snow orchestrates a series of manipulative tactics to break Katniss. As Snow's plans unfold, he grapples with the consequences of his actions and the realization that he may not be able to extinguish the flames of rebellion he helped ignite. When these tactics ultimately fail to slow the Mockingjay's flames, he desperately turns to the last weapon in his emotional arsenal: an abandoned boy who has a hold on the Mockingjay's heart.

Chapter Nine: "checkmate."

"The cold lights reflect off of the spotless white floor as his drooping body is dragged in. Snow looked through the one-way mirror as the Peacekeepers hauled the boy's limp body into the reclined chair. They each took one arm and tied it to the chair to prevent an escape which was unlikely. Last Snow had heard, the boy could barely walk. There was no chance he could escape now.

Upon seeing the boy's arms, riddled with bruises and scars usually concealed by pairings of silk and polyester, Snow almost felt bad for him. The naive fool. Really, he brought this upon himself. He should have never gotten mixed up with someone so hazardous. Never have let her get too close.

His eyes flick to the clock above the door. How much longer would this take? Snow hasn't bothered himself with observing experimental trials since before he was a gamemaker and he could tell that his patience for them was lost for longer than that. His gaze dropped to his trembling hands. He quickly hid them away in his pants before anyone could tell. 

If what his advisor said might happen, he doesn't want to miss it. There is something satisfying about seeing the demise of your enemy firsthand. Still, his mind is riddled with doubts that it still might not work. Maybe it will just leave the boy confused and scared. But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. After this, the capitol will either successfully have a way out of this war, or they won't. And who does it hurt to try?"

Chapter Eight: "what a need is."

"Heavensbee gone. The arena in pieces. The administration gone amok. Snow had no choice but to appoint that inept Gaius Vaine as a replacement. He wasn't the first choice. Or the third. But he wanted them, so he would have to. Anyways, with a Snow at the helm, it didn't really matter who executed the orders. 

But things always seemed to run smoother with Heavensbee.

Of course, Heavensbee was the reason that the perfectly curated game that Snow approved on fell apart. Fell apart right into the hands of the rebels. Or rather, District Thirteen.

Snow was no fool. He knew that the rebels would be easily squashed if it weren't for the backing of District Thirteen. A district which he was told was no threat for the foreseeable future. Which of course, was… not the case. The worst part of it all was that Snow couldn't even remember who told him. So, there was no one to punish. Yet."

Chapter Seven: "the game."

"We could just kill the boy." Snow searched the chairs to find the proposition's source until his eyes fell on a frail, graying woman. Augustina Ravinstill. A mousy woman, Ravinstill rarely spoke above a whisper. Usually, she struggled to get a word in, with the other advisors overpowering her and whatnot. But she did this time. And her suggestion had merit. Snow raises his hand, instantly stopping the noise masquerading as debate. Maybe they should just kill the boy. He has certainly lost his usefulness. Maybe the only thing left to break the Mockingjay is to watch her beloved die on national television. Traditionally, in the Capitol, they tend to keep the public executions civilized, opting for a firing squad. Capitol citizens can rarely stand seeing their neighbors killed in front of them, so a quick shot to kill a body whose face is hidden with a sack it is. A quick and simple execution, but effective nonetheless."

Chapter Six: "under a pink sky."

"Just a few meters. That was all there was left between the boy and death. A few meters until the edge of the arena. Until the forcefield. Snow was practically on the edge of his seat. No amount of money offered could save the boy after that stupid stunt during the private sessions. The gall he had. Attacking the capital. Attacking Snow. If he was dumb enough to challenge the hand that fed him, he was dumb enough to die off. No exceptions. Snow was just grateful that Finnick wasn't that dumb. He can see reason. He does what he is told. Even if it does take a little persuasion from time to time. The flash of white that bursts on his screen catches his attention. Just as the boy is flung back several feet."

Summary: "To be honest, she woke up almost an hour ago. She probably should have started getting ready for the day. She even wasted her precious hunting time. As the days grow longer, she has to wake up earlier and earlier, trying to beat the sweltering summer heat. By now, the sun was well in the sky and the couple thousand residents of District Twelve were cocooned in their homes, eagerly awaiting the cool breeze of the evening.

Oh well. Another hunt wasted. It didn't really matter. Not anymore. Not when it just felt so good. Lying there. Enveloped in his warmth. The feel of his arms around her. Protecting her."

Chapter Five: "the boy."

"If the Mockingjay didn't kill President Snow, the silence would. Perhaps the silence was even worse. An acknowledgment of failure. His failure. Or at least the failure of the twenty-one advisors he appointed to deal with the Mockingjay situation. Twenty-one pairs of lips that refused to offer up even the faintest idea of a suggestion. Twenty-one pairs of eyes just stared back at him. Yet, no matter how much he searched every pair, the eyes only reflected emptiness. It wasn't until his eyes found a mirror, caught a splash of blue.

'What about the boy?'"

Chapter Four: "returning in a coffin"

"The echos of steps on wobbly cobblestone almost had a melodic ring to them. Or at least they did for Coriolanus Snow. The satisfaction is simply delicious. And it becomes even sweeter as he watches the three figures walk towards the Justice Building, a smirk adorning his lips."

Chapter Three: "to speak of perfection"

"After the makeup is applied, Snow looks into the mirror. Now, he is finally ready to start his day. But as he turns to leave, he can't help but notice the threatening bowl in the corner. A bowl that murmurs a mockingjay's call to her people."

Chapter Two: "a sour victory"

"The look of pure shock flooding both of the children's faces was gratifying. It almost made all of the hours listening to the advisors debate about the rule change worth it. Of course, there could never be more than two victors. The District Twelve tributes were just too blinded by their hope for survival that they didn't really think that part through... On the screen, the two 'lovers' were forced to come to terms with the situation and reveal what they were willing to do to ensure their survival. Or rather, what they were willing to turn into."

what did the day that snow decided to hijack peeta look like? full of flashbacks of snow's pov during everlark moments!

Chapter One: "waking to berries"

"The floor mocks him as he wakes up each morning. Especially today, as stiff oak pushes against soft skin. Hiding under Botox, the crinkles between his eyebrows deepen with every step. What was the point of having lotion massaged into his sole every day if a step from his bed brought back a flood of memories of cold concrete?

Every single day. Waking up shivering. Dreaming of mountains of food and receiving boiled lima beans for breakfast. Hoping for a better tomorrow and finding that the world didn't seem capable of improving.

This was the childhood that Snow attempted to erase away every day for the last sixty years. And here it was, laughing in his face. All it took was a fragile step onto a floor that was still rigid from the recent polishing service.

Still, not even the flooring could prevail against a Snow. Especially one that just added in heated flooring."

sneak peek of my fanfic, title to be determined:

"Maybe it was time to admit that the Mockingjay had finally gotten the best of Snow.

The smell of his failure taunts him. Looms around the room, coiling itself around his throat until he can't take it anymore. Snow can't hide the shake in his hands as he practically rips the rose from his pocket and drops it on his desk.

Snow refuses to allow the sigh lodged in his throat to escape into the room of lingering eyes. Instead, he just looks into the nothingness in front of him.

"Like it or not, the boy is the only thing we have left. We can't kill him. We can only think of another way to use him against her." 

And so they went back to the drawing board, suggesting every way that this boy could be used to break the Mockingjay. And when each suggestion was inevitably dismissed, they would think of another. And another. And another. 

Because Snow refused to forfeit his pieces this late in the game. He refused to melt, despite the ever-approaching heat.

Summary: "He just needs a moment to soak in… what? The happiness in his heart? The warmth of her presence? The surreal reality that Katniss Everdeen was sitting across from him? Loving him. Choosing him. Hopefully, she can tell that he is choosing her. Because if anyone deserves to be chosen, it is Katniss Everdeen."

Katniss figures out her feelings for Peeta after the Games and they arrange a real marriage following their marriage in the capitol.

Summary: "And it really is beautiful. The colors from the sky beam so brightly on his hair. The light paints his face with the hues falling from the sky. The way that his breath hitches each time another spark is released. His bright smile that only seems to get wider as each minute passes. The corners of her lips lift as she settles back into him and lifts her eyes upward."
