sorry for not being clear, ideas for what an adaptation could be, not how a character could get one?
oh, i'm sorry as well, anon! i interpreted that differently. it can be a smaller, weirder, more off-kilter and costly version of almost any actual superpower. best way i've been describing it is while power gives instant #aura ways to play with them, adaptations are not as useful, but can produce some cool lore and ways to influence a character's life or personality. here are some concepts, please let me know if you need more! especially since i've kept them to just 3 ideas because they got long.
— altered gravity response: someone who's been around situations with altered gravity so much their body is a bit.. less submissive to gravity now. not flying, exactly, but certain perks and of course certain downsides. easily climbing things, not falling somehow from high-up strutures... but vertigo, restlessness, bad spacial awareness on the ground.
— appearance malleability: someone who'd been shapeshifted by someone (part of a powered Theatre troup??) a lot and now, while can't shapeshift themselves, can adopt very different ways of being, talking, sounding, walking; hair bounces back quick from dye, voice impressions are easy, body extremely malleable to weight changes and muscle gain. downsides: identity issues ensue? can't stop acting?
— lie detection adaptation: someone who grew up with a lie detecting powered person, for example, and has learned overtime to make their mind a fortress. could extend to being an overall version of immunity to mind-related powers, i see a character perhaps who's a swindler, would make bets with telepathic individuals, etc., etc... or an extremely effective liar, in a power of suggestion kind of way. gaslighting superpower
