"Extinction is on the Rise.” This piece is a depiction of a social issue regarding the endangerment of speeches around the world. I chose to draw a tiger because when you hear the word “endangered,” you would think of a panda, elephant, or polar bear. This #SCCC #Drawing I erased sections in the corner to represent the fact that these animals are being physically erased from earth.
#SCCC 2D Design student Hannah Schneider created this #mixedmedia #Copied Collage #SociallyEngagedDesign about the creator of Ren and Stimpy-”15th Birthday”. “I chose to do this piece about the creator of Ren and Stimpy’s misconduct with teenagers because it was an unaddressed topic (inspired this project.) ...very specific symbols..represent minute details of what happened.”
#SCCC 2D Design student Samantha Ronacher created this #mixedmedia #Copied Collage #SociallyEngagedDesign about David Bowie’s lasting legacy. “Bowie and the public’s struggle with his battle and eventual death of cancer (inspired this project.) Every bit that was cut out had a jagged edge to present the tone of death and cancer....he kept going with his life and almost “reached for hope.””
#SCCC Honors Drawing I student Raven Janoski comments on #climatechange with her #timebaseddrawing created in #penandink. #sociallyengagedart #polaricecapsaremelting
Julia Eager’s #SociallyEngagedStillLife. A quote form her artist statement:
"I wanted to create a piece that addressed oppression and unrealistic beauty standards. I used imagery associated with traditional femininity in the still life - underwear, a bra, jewelry, lipstick, a small doll - to represent's society's toxic beauty standards. A female nude provides commentary on realistic body types, and the beauty of bodies that are so often shamed and discouraged. The disproportionately small figure furthers the sense of struggling to hold up a great weight - of women being literally crushed by societal expectations. I hope to convey the heaviness and urgency of the issue, and speak to the plight of women everywhere."
#SCCC Drawing II Student Brandon Dorrien comments on the #opiodcrisis on Long Island that teens are growing up with and fighting against. #sociallyenagedart #makearttakeaction @longislandcouncilonalcoholanddrugdependence
