Euripides (Tr. Anne Carson) / @wholeheartedsuggestions / Jenny Slate / Euripides again
is it pathetic for a captor to need her captive like she needs oxygen? Is it pathetic that I need it to love me more than it has ever loved anyone? I need to be everything to it. I need to be its whole life. I need it to forget everything else, forget who it was without me, forget everyone else. I need to be its one and only.
Do you think it’s pathetic, pet? Do you look down on me, from down there on the floor? I just can’t bear it, the idea that I love you more than you love me. You love me, don’t you? You love me.
I think I have like a usefulness-breaking kink or something. taking someone who's so desperate to be useful and taking it all away from them, softly, sweetly, gently, until they can't even try to help at all... Forcibly relaxing them until they don't even protest about what they "should" be doing....
Awwwww, somebody went and ripped out all that usefulness you hold so dear but guess who's still loved? that's right, it's you!! No, silly, there's nothing you can do for me, but I can do some things for you! here, why don't you just put your head in my lap and let me tell you what a good job you're doing by relaxing for me~
mmm Good Girl~

women keep trying to do evil mindbreak hypnosis on me by being nice to me and telling me i'm doing a good job and offering me treats and saying i'm a really good girl and that i should try to be kinder to myself and maybe just take this moment to enjoy, just the two of us, no pressure, no mask, nothing more to be afraid of or to constrict or constrain, just be present and feel the warmth and comfort that comes from being cared for. theyre doing this because they want to hurt me sexually
you only like me for my radiant personality :/ you're only here because you love to see my smile :/ you only want to hang out with me because you know we're both so much happier knowing each other :/

I think about this story two times a week:
ily, menswear guy
bathe in your own sunlight !!!!!!
burning food is an inherited trait
This one is super cute and positive and I enjoy the sentiment, BUT am I the only one who feels blood bond based trust is arbitrary? I just feel the weight of Hollywood’s family values here. It’s dated. The moment you realize that meaningful connections is something we make, not something pre-assigned by ancestry, the world gets bigger. In the comic above, the supporting cast could easily have been your friends or found family or pets or whatever. Why ancient relatives? Why this idea of an over-centuries-unbroken blood bond? There’s zero value in it except for royal affairs and throne struggles, and that’s not really relevant, is it
When I was making the comic I was thinking about my own life and family. My mom’s side of the family has been through a lot. Colonization, immigration, gang violence, poverty, drug problems, other things that are more sensitive… but it resulted in my mom being raised by and around people who didn’t look like her, didn’t act like her. I remember being a kid and thinking I was very ugly and unnatural – there were so few people in the family who looked like me, so who was I to look to when I didn’t want to feel strange? It’s lonely, and in more ways than the physical.
I just got to meet my biological grandmother and her family at 24 after searching for them and trying to meet for years and years. I learned my cousins and aunts all bite their nails like me. They’re short like me, they’ve got teeth and wide faces like mine. They’ve got some of the same internal struggles I do, and even if they suck just as much as I do in managing them I still got to talk about things with people who understood.
I think there’s things ancestry is important for beyond the lineages of royal families. I come from a colonized people. My ancestors survived massacres and centuries of violence. I am proud to be here because it means they survived, in at least some small way, through us now. I think a lot about how scared they were that they wouldn’t.
I think it’d be hard to find someone who thinks friendships and found family mean nothing. This is just me offering another perspective, I guess. Life’s really complicated, you know?
Thank you for your reply. Oh god. Here on the internet it is easy to feel like you’re shouting into a void - will someone even hear? - and so you shout less thoughtful than you would have in real life. But now I got an answer, so there is a real person there! And so I re-read my shouting and see it is kinda harsh, especially considering the background context you provided.
I did not take that perspective in consideration; I reacted solely from my own perspective. For me, disregarding ancestry is liberating, (although I do love my family a lot), because after being “someone’s” kid, brother, whatever, during much of my upbringing, I get to be my own now. Your perspective on this topic shines a light on a side of this I did not fully understand or was aware about, and, as some people in the messages have rightfully let me know, it’s because I’m privileged to not feel the need to consider it.
You really didn’t need to teach a stranger on the internet a lesson in cultural perspectives and humility, but you did, and I’m thankful. You exposed a blind spot, thank you.
Your comic is beautifully done, I honestly hope you make more
Oh this is so nice, and it makes me really happy that you read it. I know family and who we are within it and outside of it can be complicated and difficult to think about, haha. We’re all learning all the time, thank you for hearing me out! I hope you’re doing alright.
and the universe said you are not alone.
